After being reborn, I gained a childhood sweetheart who appeared out of nowhere.
Chapter 41 Student Council
The boy lay on the table, watching people come and go from other clubs, and sighed to himself, "The Literature Club really isn't that appealing."
After all, the academic pressure at the No. 1 High School in the city is already considerable. Under such circumstances, who wouldn't want to continue studying instead of having a relaxing recreational activity after school?
Lost in his thoughts, the boy didn't realize someone had walked up to his stall until they approached.
He looked up and saw what appeared to be a first-year high school student, tall and with neat black hair. He continued to look to the side and saw that there was a girl next to him.
The girl wore a school uniform that could be seen everywhere, yet she still shone brightly. Her fair and delicate face had long, soft hair tied in a ponytail, with only a few wisps of hair falling brightly in front of her beautiful eyebrows.
He has been enrolled for over a year and has been involved in the literary society for a long time. There is no shortage of beautiful and artistic girls in his class or in the society.
He had never seen anything so beautiful before, and he couldn't help but stare in a daze.
"Excuse me, is this the recruitment area for the Literature Club?" the boy asked, interrupting his thoughts.
The boy sat up a little awkwardly, cleared his throat, and asked, "Um... are you guys here to register?"
"I'd like to learn more about the literary society," Lin Chuan said.
"Okay, we..." Before the boy could finish speaking, the girl who had been reading behind him spoke up.
"Xiaoyu? You've come to our club?" The girl who was reading put down her book and smiled at Chen Xiyu. Her smile was very gentle, like that of an older sister.
"Yes, senior," Chen Xiyu said.
"Do you two know each other?" Lin Chuan asked.
"It was the book she gave me that led me to join the literary society," Chen Xiyu said.
Lin Chuan was taken aback, thinking it was a boy who had invited Chen Xiyu.
"I saw you studying very diligently in the library last time, so I thought you might be interested, which is why I told you," the senior student said, looking at Lin Chuan. "Hello, I'm Sun Yan, the president of the Literature Club."
Before Lin Chuan could introduce himself, Sun Yan continued, "You must be Lin Chuan from Class 5 of Grade 11, right?"
"Do we know each other too?" Lin Chuan asked. Why did he always feel like there were strangers who could call him by name?
Sun Yan smiled and shook her head. "I don't know you, but I've heard of you. Your homeroom teacher is also our Chinese teacher. When he came to class yesterday, he read your essay aloud. It was really well written."
Lin Chuan was taken aback, not knowing there was such a plot point. Why didn't Lao Xue tell him about sharing his essays?
"I've even seen you two singing, right there on the playground," Sun Yan said. "You two were quite famous in the first year of high school."
"I see."
"Getting back to the point, do you want to join the literary society?" Sun Yan returned to the main topic.
Lin Chuan asked, "According to the usual procedure, shouldn't the senior introduce the club first?"
"Just think of clubs as ordinary hobby groups. Joining one won't involve many tasks or activities. It's just a place where everyone has time to get together and chat."
"If you join the literary society, we can read together when we have time, and we'll also have the opportunity to discuss reading and writing issues with the grade's Chinese teacher, which will be very helpful for your future writing studies," Sun Yan said.
Lin Chuan turned to Chen Xiyu, "Miss Chen, what do you think?"
Chen Xiyu thought for a moment, "That sounds alright."
"Here's an application form."
"What about you?" Sun Yan looked at Lin Chuan. "I think you'd be a good fit for the literature club."
"Why? Just because my essays are good?" Lin Chuan asked.
"No, aren't you going to accompany your..." Sun Yan looked at Chen Xiyu, pausing deliberately, "...with your classmates?"
Lin Chuan grinned, but didn't explain anything. "Sorry, I'm actually not that interested in the literature club."
"That's a real shame," Sun Yan said.
"Senior, what kind of assessment is required to join a club?" Chen Xiyu asked. They had just seen that other clubs had written assessments. The anime club required a simple questionnaire, and the basketball club required dribbling the ball a couple of times.
"Haha, other clubs do have some minor assessments, but our Literature Club adheres to the principle of embracing all rivers," Sun Yan said with a smile.
"Is it because not many people have joined?" Lin Chuan said from the side.
Sun Yan's smile froze slightly. "Junior, you're so smart, be careful you don't end up being disliked by girls."
Lin Chuan chuckled and changed the subject, "Senior, do you know where the student council is recruiting? I heard they're recruiting today, but I didn't see them."
Sun Yan looked at him. "You want to join the student council?"
"Mm," Lin Chuan said.
Compared to clubs, the student council was more attractive to him, since joining the student council had certain "value".
For example, scholarships, "Three Good Students" awards, and university admission quotas are all more or less related, especially in schools with a strict academic atmosphere like the No. 1 High School in the city.
"The student council recruitment is at the student activity center. Usually, you go there first to get a form, fill it out, and then give it to them. After that, you'll be screened and then interviewed," Sun Yan reminded her. She still took two more application forms from the table and gave them to Chen Xiyu. "Then welcome to join the literary society, junior."
After leaving, Lin Chuan took a detour to the student activity center, where he picked up a student council registration form. Then he went to eat with Chen Xiyu.
On the way, Lin Chuan symbolically asked Chen Xiyu if she was interested in the student union. She quickly refused, saying, "I'm not interested in places that are like work."
After finishing dinner, Lin Chuan returned to the classroom.
Just as Lin Chuan sat back down, Wang Xu returned, carrying a bunch of forms. Lin Chuan glanced at them; they included information on anime clubs and badminton clubs.
"How many clubs do you want to join?" Lin Chuan asked.
"Just looking around. I saw you and Chen this afternoon. You were saying you weren't going to check out the club recruitment, but you went anyway," Wang Xu sighed, sounding like a resentful wife. "Looks like you just didn't want to go with me."
Lin Chuan raised an eyebrow. "With so many people around, how could you see me?"
"You two are conspicuous," Wang Xu said. "Whenever Chen stands there, a lot of people will look at her. Naturally, you'll be conspicuous next to her."
Lin Chuan gave a faint "oh" and lowered his head to fill out the student council application form.
"Hey, you want to join the student council?" Wang Xu leaned closer.
"Hmm, how about we go together?"
"No! That's a place for good students, and it's probably very strict. It's not suitable for me." Wang Xu shook his head.
"You're overthinking it," Lin Chuan said calmly. In his eyes, the student council wasn't really that strict. "The place you think is very strict might be much more unregulated than you think."
Wang Xu looked at him, seemingly understanding but not quite.
During the evening study break, Lin Chuan took the form and handed it to the student council members. All that was left was for them to screen the applications, and those who passed would be notified for an interview.
When the school bell rang to signal the end of evening study, Lin Chuan greeted Wang Xu as usual and then left with Chen Xiyu.
Because get out of class ends quite late, they always take the last bus, and sometimes the bus arrives just as they get to the bus stop.
"This school's evening study sessions go on way too late. Can't they balance work and rest?" Chen Xiyu pursed her lips on the back seat of the bus.
"Such words shouldn't come from someone who's ranked first in the class, right?" Lin Chuan asked.
"That's the truth."
Lin Chuan suggested, "Why don't you move back to the school dormitory?"
"No, I don't like living in the dormitory," Chen Xiyu said.
"I've noticed you go back to the girls' dormitory for a nap every day at noon," Lin Chuan said.
As a day student, he could only nap in the classroom for a while at noon, but Chen Xiyu could sneak into the dormitory to take a nap. After all, he had done it during military training, and the aunt didn't say anything.
Chen Xiyu would occasionally bring a cake or something for the community management aunt, and the aunt had no objections.
"I just don't want to," Chen Xiyu said.
"You could also rent a place near the school," Lin Chuan said. "It's close to the school."
"I'll think about it," Chen Xiyu said.
The bus pulled into the station, and the two of them got off together. They walked through the familiar alley, went upstairs, and prepared to go home separately.
"I'd like to use the computer later," Lin Chuan said.
Although he goes to her house every day recently, he still makes it a habit to let her know, since he goes there quite late every day. At first, he was worried that he might disturb Chen Xiyu's rest.
But later he realized he was overthinking it. Lin Chuan went back to sleep after finishing his work, and Chen Xiyu probably didn't go to sleep either.
Sometimes, the next morning, Lin Chuan would see a message she sent at 12:30 am, asking him what classes he had the next day, even though he had already sent her the class schedule.
But she didn't seem to have seen it at all, or it was just some unimportant message. Lin Chuan usually only replied after waking up during the day and seeing it.
