The next day, Lin Chuan sat at his desk, turned on his computer, and saw a new document on the screen. Sunlight from the window fell on his hands, and his fingers danced across the keyboard, sometimes pausing.

This cycle repeated itself for a long time. Lin Chuan then chose to give up temporarily. When he couldn't write anything, he stopped forcing himself and simply stood up, stretched, walked out of the room, and strolled around the living room.

Lin Chuan hadn't been wandering around for long when there was a knock on the door, accompanied by Chen Xiyu's voice, "Is anyone home?"

He looked towards the door but did not answer.

After a while, there was the sound of a key turning in the lock, and then the door to the house was pushed open.

Chen Xiyu peeked in, cautiously looking around, and only paused when she saw Lin Chuan. "You're here?"

"This is my home, where can I go if I'm not here?" Lin Chuan asked.

"I knocked on the door but you didn't answer."

"I just want to see if you can open the door yourself," Lin Chuan said.

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Chen Xiyu rolled her eyes at him, looked around, and asked, "Where are your aunt and uncle?"

"I'm going out," Lin Chuan explained.

"Oh, okay," Chen Xiyu said.

"What are you doing here?" Lin Chuan asked.

"I'm here to supervise your studies," Chen Xiyu said. "I promised Aunt Wang last time that I would write a novel for you, but you can't neglect your studies, so I came to supervise you."

"You've really had a hard time," Lin Chuan said.

"It's tough, but there's nothing I can do. I've always been such a responsible person," Chen Xiyu said with a smile. She put her hands behind her back and walked to his room. "I want to check your learning progress myself."

"See? See?" Lin Chuan walked over and opened the door.

His room was very simple, with just a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. There was nothing else. In front of the desk was a half-open wooden window with light blue curtains hanging on it. The curtains swayed gently in the breeze, and the sunlight changed on the desk.

"Oh, oh." Chen Xiyu looked around the room again, looking left and right.

"Why are you looking at it so seriously? Haven't you been here before?" Lin Chuan asked.

"It's been a while," Chen Xiyu smiled. "It's tidier than I expected, but the blankets weren't made, that's a minus!"

"Normally speaking, not making your bed in the morning is healthy," Lin Chuan said. "Also, why don't you take a look at your own living room before you criticize me?"

Chen Xiyu chuckled and walked to the desk. "Have you finished the homework the teacher assigned?" She abruptly changed the subject, as she always did.

Lin Chuan asked, "Which department are you referring to?"

"English weekly newspaper, math tests, physics exercises," Chen Xiyu counted on her fingers. "That seems to be all?"

"I'm done," Lin Chuan said, pointing to the exam paper on the table.

Chen Xiyu picked up the test paper and looked at it like a teacher. After a while, she said, "Your English is really good, but there are some mistakes on the math test."

"I'm not the top student in the grade, so it's normal to make mistakes," Lin Chuan said.

Chen Xiyu put down the test paper, casually walked to Lin Chuan's bedside, and plopped down on his bed.

Lin Chuan sat back down at his desk, opened the document he had just been looking at, glanced at it, and then switched to other documents.

Chen Xiyu suddenly asked, "Is writing novels interesting?"

"It's alright, similar to writing an essay."

"Really?"

"They're all made-up stories," Lin Chuan said. "Did you write real stories in your essays?"

"Hmm," Chen Xiyu thought for a moment, "Back in elementary school, I actually wrote essays based on true stories, and one of them even won an award."

"What story?" Lin Chuan and she didn't go to the same elementary or middle school, so he had never heard her "story".

"It's about how one night, I had a painful wisdom tooth eruption, and my mom took me to the dentist late at night. It was such a touching story," Chen Xiyu said. "Didn't we all write stories like that in elementary school?"

"That can't be right, wasn't it me who took you there?" Lin Chuan asked.

"Hehe, I know, but only if it's written for the parent-teacher conference will people believe it," Chen Xiyu said, swinging her legs. "I'm a little hungry, want to go out for lunch?"

"What time is it? Didn't you have breakfast?"

"I ate... a cookie."

"..." Lin Chuan thought for a moment, "Sure, I found a new fish ball noodle soup shop that opened nearby."

"Is it far?"

"It's not far, just a ten-minute walk," Lin Chuan said. "It's just a roadside stall. Miss Chen, would you like to eat at a roadside stall?"

Chen Xiyu grinned, "Haven't we eaten at roadside stalls enough?"

"Shall we go in half an hour?" Lin Chuan glanced at the time; it was only 10:30, too early to go for lunch.

"Okay, I'll come back later." Chen Xiyu stood up and gently patted his shoulder as she walked past him. "Keep studying hard!"

Then he left with cheerful little steps.

Lin Chuan didn't continue writing. Instead, he opened a website and started reading a novel. After a while, seeing that it was almost time, he got up and went out.

As soon as I stepped out of the house, I ran into Chen Xiyu in the hallway. She had changed her clothes; her pajamas had been replaced by a white dress and white shoes, with the lace trim of the skirt swaying gently.

"Is it pretty?" Chen Xiyu asked.

"It looks familiar," Lin Chuan said.

"The outfit I wore when school started."

"No wonder," Lin Chuan said.

The roadside stall that Lin Chuan mentioned was only a ten-minute walk from the residential area. The two walked for a while and then saw the roadside stall.

There wasn't even a storefront; there was only a small cart with a few low stools and small tables next to it.

The two ordered two bowls of noodles. When the noodles arrived, Chen Xiyu could smell the aroma wafting towards her. She took a bite of a fish ball, and the fresh fish flavor filled her mouth.

"It's delicious," she said with satisfaction.

"It's not tasty, and I wouldn't have dared to bring you here," Lin Chuan said.

Although he just wanted to focus on cooking, he still felt the gazes around him. He figured it was because Chen Xiyu was good-looking and dressed nicely, and her presence was indeed quite eye-catching.

She doesn't look like the kind of girl who would be at a roadside stall.

However, Chen Xiyu didn't seem to mind at all. She happily finished the noodles with the owner, even drinking the soup. When paying, she said to the owner, "Boss, your noodles are really delicious."

"Thank you, I'll come again next time," the owner said with a smile.

On the way back, Chen Xiyu took another route, the one Lin Chuan often took when he went for his morning run.

The road was lined with sycamore trees. Chen Xiyu walked ahead, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves and falling on her back, her long, dark hair being gently blown by the wind.

"Do you remember what day it is next week?" Chen Xiyu asked.

"It's your birthday," Lin Chuan said.

"So what birthday present are you going to give me?" Chen Xiyu asked.

"Your class monitor is a little short on money lately," Lin Chuan said. "Would you mind if I gave you a birthday card?"

"Sure," Chen Xiyu said without hesitation.

Birthday cards should theoretically be the laziest birthday gift, since they only cost one dollar.

You can write a few lines or copy something from the internet, since there are still many non-mainstream texts circulating online.

So when he said that, he was already prepared for Chen Xiyu to show an angry expression, after all, he was just joking.

But Lin Chuan didn't expect the other party to answer so readily.

"Then I'll definitely write you a nice birthday message," Lin Chuan said.

Chen Xiyu turned around, her eyes bright, and looked straight at Lin Chuan. "If you dare to just copy a few sentences from the internet to appease me, even Aunt Wang can't save you."

"Okay, okay," Lin Chuan said.
