After being reborn, I gained a childhood sweetheart who appeared out of nowhere.
Chapter 88: Lin Chuan's "Special Attention"
"Thank you, class monitor." As soon as they stepped out of the cafeteria, Zhou Yun bowed slightly to Lin Chuan.
"I'll correct you on two things," Lin Chuan said. "First, you don't need to thank me; this is just mutual help. Second, you don't need to say thank you like that."
"Okay, I've got it." Zhou Yun said.
"The way you're talking makes it sound like I'm a teacher," Lin Chuan asked. "What? Do I look very old? Or rather, very mature?"
"No," Zhou Yun shook her head, "but the class monitor seems very mature and reliable..." Her voice grew softer and softer, and Lin Chuan couldn't even hear what she was saying in the last few words.
"So be it," Lin Chuan shrugged and walked towards the classroom.
Zhou Yun followed behind without saying a word, only occasionally stealing a glance at Lin Chuan walking ahead.
After the last evening study session, Lin Chuan went home with Chen Xiyu as usual. After taking a quick shower, he went to his room to start preparing to update his novel.
I just opened QQ and found that the editor's message from this afternoon was still there. He had asked me at noon how my book was doing, and the editor had replied. However, I was busy all afternoon and evening and hadn't noticed it.
"Your average subscriptions have reached 2,100, and your average subscriptions have increased by 1,000 in one month. That's very good data," editor Yueshan replied.
"With this score, how much money would you make in a month?" Lin Chuan sent another message, and just as he was about to close the chat window, the other party replied again.
"There's no fixed amount. If you calculate based on 2,000 words per chapter, the subscription revenue is about one cent. But since this is your first month, it won't be too high. It also includes other income, such as tips, etc." Yue Shan explained it to him very clearly.
"I estimate it will be at least four or five thousand, but your book is doing very well. If you write for a few more months, your royalties will quickly exceed ten thousand. Online novels require word count accumulation to generate high royalties. For example, the difference in royalties between a book with an average subscription of several hundred thousand words and one with a million words can be more than double."
"Understood," Lin Chuan replied, "Thank you, editor."
"It's nothing. Did you just finish your evening study session?" Yue Shan asked.
"yes."
"Your No. 1 High School's evening study session goes really late," Yue Shan remarked. "You must be working hard with your regular classes too, right?"
"It's quite tough."
"Won't updating like this every day interfere with your studies?" Yue Shan asked.
"It's alright, I had some drafts saved up beforehand. Now I only write a few thousand words every day after I come back, and I can write more on the weekends," Lin Chuan explained.
"Yes, yes, although you are very talented, novels are a subject with many ups and downs. Don't forget to study while you're writing novels," Yue Shan said.
"Okay, thank you, editor," Lin Chuan replied.
The two had never actually met, nor had they talked much about anything outside of "work," except for a few words when the book was first published and put on the shelves.
He could sense that the other person wasn't trying to "preach," but rather, it sounded like an elder concerned about his studies.
It was late at night, and the two ended their conversation after only a few words. It was already the end of the month, and Lin Chuan asked again when the payment for the manuscript would be made. The editor replied that it would be on the 12th of next month.
Lin Chuan calculated the time; it would only be two weeks, which would be quick.
After finishing writing down the characters he needed to modify for the day, Lin Chuan went straight to bed for a good night's sleep.
The following day marked the first proper week after the midterm exams.
Lin Chuan's teachers no longer go over test papers every day; they are still teaching regular classes. This morning, Lin Chuan was called out by Lao Xue right after class ended.
"Squad leader, have you been busy lately?" Xue Ren asked.
"If you're busy, can you not be the class monitor?" Lin Chuan asked.
Xue Ren smiled and said, "This is a class election. Of course, if you're adamant, there's nothing I can do."
"Really?" Lin Chuan didn't stand on ceremony.
"Of course it's true," Xue Ren said. "At the parent-teacher conference that day, I actually chatted with your mother for a while about your studies. I felt that you might not be putting enough effort into your studies?"
"Teacher Xue, I swear to God, I listened attentively in class."
"I'm not talking about classes, but after class. You seem pretty busy after class, so you probably haven't been reviewing much, right?" Xue Ren asked.
Lin Chuan thought to himself, "That guess was actually right."
"For example, you are good at Chinese composition and reading comprehension, but you have not mastered the most basic poetry memorization. I have seen the same in other subjects. The high-difficulty questions are very easy for you, but you always lose points on the basics."
"To be honest, I think you're really smart. If you work a little harder, you have a chance to be in the top 50, if not the top 10 in the grade. What's the reason? Is it because the class monitor's job is too busy?"
"It's alright," Lin Chuan said. Although he kept saying he didn't want to do it, he didn't feel that he was particularly busy with school work, whether it was being the class monitor in high school or the student council.
The busiest periods were actually military training, the beginning of the semester, and the parent-teacher conference, which only happened once a semester. He basically didn't have much to do during the semester, and even collecting homework was done by the class representative.
As for the student council, it has been almost half a month without any activity. If there are no activities, they don't really have anything to do. They can't just keep a group of people having meetings every day, can they?
The student union is not like a club; you can't just get together to eat sunflower seeds and chat all the time.
In the end, it was because he was writing novels that he basically didn't review after class. He just relied on what he remembered in class to write down. He only reviewed a little during the weekend before the midterm. Even so, his grades weren't actually that bad.
But it's not convenient to say the reason.
"Teacher, I will pay more attention to these basics from now on." Lin Chuan did not explain further.
Xue Ren nodded. "I won't interfere much with the other subjects, but for Chinese, you mustn't get the simplest questions, like reciting classical poems, wrong next time."
"it is good."
"After you finish studying each classical poem or prose, I will give you a spot check before the exam," Xue Ren said.
"Teacher, there's no need to be so considerate," Lin Chuan said with a wry smile.
Lin Chuan knew, of course, that he wasn't a child, and that such "high expectations" and the fact that they would check his other exam papers were unacceptable.
In reality, it's also a way for the homeroom teacher to show you some respect. In junior high, the homeroom teacher never cared about his grades. In junior and senior high, the time when a teacher in your class truly "gives up" on you is when they stop caring about you altogether.
"You know this is a favor, so keep up the good work. You're the class monitor, not necessarily the top student, but try to get into the top five. That way, I'll have face when I talk about it." Xue Ren smiled and said jokingly, patting his shoulder. "Don't let your teacher down."
"Mm." Lin Chuan nodded.
"Let's go eat." After Xue Ren finished speaking, he turned and left with his lesson plan. After taking a few steps, he heard Xue Ren say, "By the way, remember to memorize all the questions you got wrong on the midterm exam. Don't make the same mistakes next time."
Lin Chuan responded and then went back to the classroom to call Wang Xu to go eat together.
The afternoon classes consisted of two consecutive physics lessons, which made many students drowsy. They finally made it to the end of the afternoon and the class dispersed in a flurry.
Lin Chuan quickly tidied up the textbooks on his desk, then called out to his deskmate, "Let's go eat."
"Okay, okay," Wang Xu replied in quick succession.
Lin Chuan stood up, ready to go find something to eat. Just as he looked up, he saw a girl standing next to him, blocking his way. She didn't look like she was just passing by.
He could only ask one question, "Cheng Xue, is there something you need?"
"Teacher Xue asked me to check your recitation after school, so I came here to check your recitation," Cheng Xue said.
"Recite what?" Lin Chuan was taken aback.
"I will check all the texts that we have learned so far that are required to be memorized," Cheng Xue said.
Lin Chuan remembered that Lao Xue had told him to study hard that morning, but he didn't expect to be checked so soon. He even had to call the class representative over. It turns out that being given special attention really wasn't just talk.
"Are you going to wait for me, or go eat first?" He looked at Wang Xu beside him and asked. Judging from Cheng Xue's attitude, he estimated that it would take quite a while.
"I won't keep you two any longer, I'm off." Wang Xu grinned slyly.
"I'm just checking your recitation." Before Lin Chuan could say anything, Cheng Xue said coldly, seemingly dissatisfied with the phrase "just the two of you."
"I was just kidding, just kidding," Wang Xu laughed it off. As soon as he realized things weren't going well, he quickly ran away. After all, it wasn't the first time he'd betrayed his brothers.
Wang Xu jogged over to Zhao Jiajia and Chen Xiyu and said, "Let's go eat first, Lao Lin still has homework to finish."
