Alaska Gold Rush Diary

Chapter 101 Hunting in the Jungle

Chapter 102 Hunting in the Jungle

After finally managing to transport everything across the river, the three of them only rested for about ten minutes before getting back to work.

It was already 5 p.m., and it would be dark in less than two hours.

The three of them worked together to set up the ore washing machine again.

Next, start the generator and the ore washing machine.

Having learned from his previous experience, Edward quickly adjusted the ore washing machine to its optimal power.

Zhou Xin looked at the gold-absorbing blanket at the tail of the ore washing machine and found that, as he had expected, the gold particles here were larger than those at the previous mining site.

"It seems that the gold reserves at this mining site may be even richer than before!" Zhou Xin finally told the two of their conclusions after his guess was confirmed.

"Really? Does that mean we'll find more gold here than at the last mining site?" Edward's face was full of excitement.

He found that he had become very easily excited since following Zhou Xin.

Zhou Xin smiled and nodded, then began to offer them words of encouragement: "So, we must keep our spirits up and wash out all the gold here in one go!"

"No problem, we can just work two more hours each day. We also have lighting, so we can work overtime at night."

Edward seemed very motivated.

Alo immediately declared his determination: "I can work overtime too!"

Zhou Xin was very satisfied and increasingly appreciated the benefits of having reliable teammates.

After a simple dinner, the three of them set up their tent and rested to be well-rested for tomorrow's work.

The next morning, Zhou Xin was awakened by the roar of machinery. It turned out that Edward and Alo had already started working.

Knowing that the two probably hadn't had breakfast yet, Zhou Xin used the leftover dried birds and other ingredients to make them a pie with sago palm starch.

The two didn't come back to rest; instead, they took the pies and went back to the ore washing machine, eating as they continued working.

"It seems they're both more proactive than I am!" Zhou Xin thought to himself.

Of course, as their prospective boss, he didn't have to do everything himself; he would only lend a hand when there was really nothing else to do.

For him now, finding food in the jungle has become second nature.

You can gather enough food for a day by running through the jungle for just two or three hours.

He needed to ensure the two of them could focus on their gold panning without any worries, and naturally, he didn't want them to have to worry about food.

However, for Zhou Xin, simply feeding them was clearly not enough. He also needed to ensure that they ate well and had a balanced diet so that their physical strength could be maintained at its best.

Previously, the food they collected was mostly plant-based, while the animal-based food consisted of birds and fish that they hunted.

If it weren't for the last time they snatched food from a jaguar's mouth, and Logan's occasional catch of prey, they probably wouldn't have had a decent meal of meat yet.

Thinking about this, Zhou Xin felt somewhat ashamed.

I feel like I haven't done a very good job as both the boss and the logistics manager.

To improve his meals, he plans to go hunting today.

Now, his marksmanship is getting better and better, and he is beginning to grasp the basics of American Iaido.

This level of skill, while not quite masterful, is sufficient for hunting.

He then took the real and fake guns, along with Logan, and disappeared into the jungle.

Hunting is completely different from gathering food; what's needed is the ability to track prey.

Although there are many kinds of animals in the jungle, it is not easy to find them.

A qualified hunter needs to be able to track prey by looking for footprints, hair, feces, and signs of vegetation damage.

Zhou Xin was only good at finding gold; he wasn't very good at finding prey.

However, he has a powerful assistant, Logan.

Logan's tracking ability, while not as good as a hunting dog, is still much better than that of a human.

After giving Logan the command, it immediately twitched its nose and began searching the jungle with its head outstretched.

Zhou Xin followed carefully behind it, trying to avoid disturbing the prey with his movements.

Logan clearly had extensive hunting experience; after searching for a while, it quickened its pace in a specific direction.

Zhou Xin knew that it had found the animal's tracks and was tracking its target.

The man and the wolf traversed the jungle at high speed. After walking for about ten minutes, Logan suddenly stopped and nudged Zhou Xin with his front paws.

Zhou Xin knew that the prey was not far ahead.

He held his breath and carefully walked forward, his body hunched over.

He soon spotted his target.

It was a creature that resembled a giant rat, with a large head and short neck. Its eyes, ears, and nostrils were located on the top of its head, and it had two pairs of incisors at the front of its mouth.

Zhou Xin had done his research on the animals in the area before he arrived, and he quickly recognized it as a capybara.

Capybaras are widely distributed in the tropical rainforests of South America and are numerous; they are not a protected species.

The capybara in front of us is quite large, weighing about 70 or 80 pounds, comparable to a large wild boar.

Moreover, capybara meat tastes similar to pork, but without the gamey smell of wild boar, making it a fantastic meat dish.

Look at this head; if we put it back, it would be enough to feed three people for a long time.

Zhou Xin made up his mind that he had to take him down.

Just then, the capybara's ears twitched, and it keenly raised its head, only to see Zhou Xin.

The next moment, it suddenly turned and ran away!

Almost simultaneously, Logan and Zhou Xin made their move.

Logan leaped out and chased after the capybara.

However, because it was some distance away from the capybara, and the capybara had moved first, it did not catch up immediately.

But it doesn't matter, Zhou Xin has already made his move.

He had already drawn his gun the moment the capybara raised its head.

By the time the capybara turned to run away, he already had a real gun in his hand and had pulled the trigger.

American-style Iaido: draw your gun and shoot!

call!

The piercing gunshot startled the birds in the forest, and the capybara only managed to run two or three meters before collapsing to the ground.

The shot hit its head directly, killing it instantly.

Zhou Xin was overjoyed, it seemed that his American-style Iaijutsu had already achieved some success.

Blood flowed from the capybara's head, and its limbs were still twitching and convulsing wildly.

Logan had already rushed in front of it, preventing it from getting up and running away again.

Zhou Xin ran over, pulled out a dagger from his pocket, and stabbed it in the neck.

Blood gushed out, instantly staining the ground red.

He's bleeding his prey; only after it's been thoroughly bled will its meat taste better.

After the blood had drained, Zhou Xin cut some vines from the side and tied up the capybara carcass.

"This thing is really heavy!" Zhou Xin carried the capybara carcass on his back and once again experienced the enormous size of this prey.

"At least for the next two weeks, we won't have to worry about not having meat to eat."

.

However, carrying it back to the camp will probably take a lot of effort.
