Chapter 67 Setting Sail
Until the sun was high in the sky.
"Connor, wake up! If you keep sleeping, you'll be swept away by the waves."
Bai Yu walked over to Robin and bent down to poke the little girl's chubby cheeks.
Connor smacked her lips a few times, turned over, and was still tightly clutching the blanket that had been added to her body yesterday.
Although Connor's body didn't really need any of this, Bai Yu had a habit he carried over from his previous life: he always had to cover his stomach with something.
However, Connor's sleeping posture, or rather her sleeping habits, were clearly not good; her drool had soaked the blanket that Bai Yu had covered her with last night.
Robin smiled helplessly and reached out to tuck Connor's messy hair behind his ear: "This kid, he was so sleepy last night that he could barely keep his eyes open, but he still insisted on staying awake to watch you guys drink."
Bai Yu chuckled softly, bent down, and picked up Connor.
"Then let's send him back to his cabin to sleep. After all, he's a three-thousand-year-old young dragon and needs to rest."
Hearing Bai Yu's words, Robin couldn't help but roll her eyes: "I really envy Connor. In their world, a three-thousand-year-old dragon is still just a child..."
The little girl was as light as a ball of cotton, and she smelled of roasted meat. Bai Yu carefully carried her into the bedroom of the cabin, placed her on the soft bed, and tucked her in.
Outside the cabin, the puppets were busily working in an orderly fashion. These wooden puppets, made by Bai Yu using his Devil Fruit powers, moved with precision and agility. They carried heavy wooden crates, their steps steady as they stepped onto the deck. The crates were filled with meat prepared by Robin, as well as compressed dry rations and fresh water that Bai Yu had specially stocked up on.
Several other puppets were squatting by the ship's side, carefully inspecting the anchor and ropes. These guys' fingers were as nimble as real people's, not missing even the slightest scratch.
As its strength increases, the puppet can do more and more things.
Robin stood with his arms crossed at the ship's side, his gaze fixed on the maps marked with red crosses.
This is a dangerous area on the Grand Line that I marked yesterday, based on the scattered clues I heard from Mihawk and the intelligence I've gathered over the years.
"Speaking of this town of Europa..."
Nico Robin murmured the name, then turned to look at Bai Yu: "It's said that it's the last supply station before entering the Grand Line, and also a mixed area between pirates and marines. It's a chaotic and unsafe place. Often, if the pirates don't cause trouble, the marines don't bother with it, and sometimes even if a big pirate causes a small problem, the marines don't bother with it either..."
Bai Yu was carrying a sealed jar of strong liquor into the cabin when he heard this. He raised an eyebrow and tapped the jar lightly with his fingertips. "It's like this in these places. In some places, the branch's marines would love for the great pirates to enter the Grand Line so they can lighten their burden... After all, this place isn't like Loguetown in the East Blue... The pirates there are weak, and the marines are strong..."
He had barely finished speaking when he heard Connor's soft, sweet voice from inside the cabin: "Baiyu, I want to eat meat, and I want to eat grilled squid too."
The two exchanged a smile, and Robin shook his head helplessly: "It seems this child's mind is entirely on food. That's good, no worries at all."
For the next two days, the activity on the beach never stopped.
The puppets loaded the last batch of supplies onto the ship: the pelts of the island's wild beasts that Bai Yu had captured, and wild fruits that Robin had picked and dried so they could be kept fresh at sea for a long time.
Nico Robin stood under the mast, a charcoal pencil in her hand, sketching on a brand new nautical chart.
Just then, a breeze carrying the scent of wine and a hearty laugh came from the end of the beach. Long golden hair drew beautiful arcs in the sunlight, and the snow-white hair around her waist swayed gently with her steps.
"Wow, you guys are pretty fast at working."
Rangiku Matsumoto appeared atop the sand dune, carrying a bundle of thick ironwood on her shoulder. Her steps were light as if she were treading on ocean waves, and the sunlight shone on her fair cheeks, making her captivating eyes even more lively.
These days she has ventured deep into the island’s interior and cut down a whole shipload of ironwood. This wood is as hard as steel and is an excellent material for repairing ship hulls. Even naval warships often use it for reinforcement.
When sailing on the high seas, you can't guarantee that your ship will always be in good condition, so you naturally need to prepare some high-quality timber.
"Ranchiku".
Bai Yu greeted her with a smile, reaching out to take the ironwood from her shoulder. The weight in his hand made him raise an eyebrow slightly: "This wood is quite heavy. You actually carried it this far. Why don't you let the puppet come with you to move it?"
Matsumoto Rangiku shrugged, raised her hand to wipe the thin layer of sweat from her forehead, her fingertips still carrying the fresh scent of herbs, and a smile appeared on her lips: "What's this little bit of weight? I'm terrifyingly strong now."
As she spoke, her gaze swept over the busy puppets on the deck, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes: "These guys seem to be more agile than before. Bai Yu, your abilities are truly becoming more and more surprising."
Robin put down her charcoal pencil, smiled, and stepped forward: "Alright, if you're ready, we can set off. Ms. Rangiku, you've been busy for so long, you must be eager to have a drink."
Matsumoto Rangiku laughed and patted Robin on the shoulder: "Of course, and I've heard that the tavern in Europa Town has a 30-year-old vintage ale, which I can't miss."
The addition of Matsumoto Rangiku brought a lively atmosphere to the otherwise orderly preparations.
Her skills were astonishingly nimble. She helped the puppets sort and stack supplies. She could do those tasks that required precise strength, such as firmly securing bundles of animal hides to the sides of the ship or placing fragile pottery jars in the shockproof compartments of the cabin, without making a single mistake.
After Rangiku returned, Konno clung to her even more, tugging at her clothes and chattering away.
Two days later, as the last rays of the setting sun sank below the horizon, all preparations were finally completed.
The puppets worked together to pull up the heavy anchor, the iron chains rattling against the ship's side.
The sails were slowly raised, billowing in the cool evening breeze into a full arc, like a giant bird spreading its wings to take flight.
The supplies on the deck were neatly arranged, including wild fruits, dry rations, fresh water, and several jars of sake from Matsumoto Rangiku.
Bai Yu stood at the bow of the ship, gazing at the gradually blurring outline of the island.
"Set off!"
With Bai Yu's command, the Dawnbreaker stirred up ripples and slowly sailed away from the beach, heading towards the vast depths of the sea.
The rest of the voyage went surprisingly smoothly.
There were no storms that blotted out the sky, no sea monsters leaping out of the water to capsize ships, and not even a wisp of dark cloud was visible.
