Chapter 90 Snow Scene
The sea surface, tinged with a cold blue against the snow, was the backdrop for the navigation. The pointer steadily pointed to the coordinates of the small garden.
Although the climate in Little Garden was quite nice, the journey on the Grand Line was not easy, and Bai Yu and his companions encountered snowy weather.
The sea breeze swept across the ship's side with snowflakes, and the deck, which was originally at a moderate temperature, was covered with a thin layer of frost. Kanna, wrapped up like a round ball of fluff by Unohana, leaned on the railing and stretched out her little hand to catch the falling snowflakes. She watched the ice crystals melt into water droplets in her palm, and her eyes shone as if they contained starlight.
"It's snowing so heavily!"
Kanna tilted her head back, and snowflakes fell on her soft silver hair, instantly accumulating into a thin layer. She stuck out her tongue to catch them, and the cool touch made her squint her eyes and let out a satisfied sigh.
Rangiku had long since discarded her outer robe and was walking on the deck, her long golden hair flying wildly in the snow wind. She wasn't particularly afraid of the cold, especially after gaining outstanding strength, and she also liked cool clothes.
Rangiku picked up a clump of snow, made it into a snowball, and gently threw it onto Robin's shoulder when Robin wasn't looking.
Robin felt a chill on his shoulder, turned to look at Rangiku who was laughing happily, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes, raised his hands and spread out several fair arms at his side, instantly forming several snowballs, which he threw at Rangiku at the same time.
"Sneak attacks are not a good habit, Rangiku-san."
Robin had a faint smile on her lips, her other hand still flipping through the books, but she was using the Flower Flower Fruit's power to play with her companions.
Rangiku nimbly dodged the snowball, which grazed her clothes and landed on the deck, shattering into a cloud of snowflakes. She laughed and retorted, "Robin, that's cheating! You're using your Devil Fruit power!"
Bai Yu leaned against the mast, watching the group playfully fighting. A wisp of cold air condensed at his fingertips, and the scattered snowflakes seemed to come alive, gathering in front of him and gradually solidifying into a lifelike ice sculpture of a seabird, its wings spread as if it were about to take flight into the sky at any moment.
"This is truly amazing. Logically speaking, the Uchiha clan shouldn't be able to use Ice Release. When I became a Jonin, I learned the Five Elements Release techniques but still couldn't use Ice Release. So why is it like this now...?"
Unohana stood beside him, her delicate hand waving lightly. A ripple of light caused the snow on the deck to surge and transform into round snowballs. She picked up two snowballs and gently pressed them down, quickly sketching out the outline of a snowman. On its round head, two black seashells served as eyes, and a slender twig as a nose, making it look adorable.
"This world is truly full of power. I used a power similar to spiritual energy, which is very convenient."
"Brother Baiyu, come and build a snowman together!"
Kanna ran to Bai Yu's side, tugged at his clothes and shook them, her palm still covered with unmelted snowflakes.
Bai Yu looked down at her expectant eyes. The ice-carved seabird on his fingertips gently landed on the snow, turning into a piece of fine ice crystal. He bent down, grabbed a handful of snow, and with a flick of his wrist, the snowball quickly took shape in his hand, soon building a snowman that was even taller than Mao Zhihua's. The snowman wore a straw hat woven from vines, and simple patterns were carved from ice crystals on his chest, giving him a rather chivalrous air.
Seeing this, Rangiku, not to be outdone, shouted, "I want to build the most unique one too!"
Matsumoto Rangiku tilted her head back and took a swig of warm sake. The warmth of the sake had just spread over her throat when she casually hung the sake bottle on her waist, crunched through the thin snow, and walked to the center of the deck. She bent down and scooped up a large handful of snow.
The snowflakes were fluffy and soft, falling softly into her palm. She then clenched her fingers together, squeezed the snowball tightly, bent down and added several more handfuls of snow, piling it up layer by layer.
"What kind of pile should we make?"
She seemed to be still thinking, but her hands repeatedly patted and shaped the snowman, making its body more and more round and sturdy, like a solid little wine barrel.
He tilted his head and looked at it for a moment, feeling that something was missing. His eyes then fell on the brass wine pot at his waist.
She untied the wine jug, unscrewed the lid, and weighed it in her hand. The lid had delicate scrollwork along its edge, and the size was just right. She tiptoed and carefully placed the lid on the snowman's head, patting it gently. "Now that's more like it," she said.
Then she crouched down and started digging in the snowdrift next to her, quickly piling up two small snowdrifts about half a person's height, one on each side of the big snowman. She took two steps back, put her hands on her hips, and examined her masterpiece, becoming more and more satisfied with it.
As for Robin, she used the power of the Flower Flower Fruit to carve a row of ice sculptures along the ship's side, including coiled sea snakes, soaring eagles, and several small rabbits, each one lifelike, as well as a few pets with unique aesthetics.
The snow fell heavier and heavier, and the swirling snowflakes enveloped the entire ship, while the deck was filled with laughter and cheerful conversation.
Kanna rolled around in the snow, leaving a trail of tiny footprints behind her. She grabbed a handful of snow and secretly smeared it on Rangiku's face, causing Rangiku to gasp in surprise and then chase after her playfully.
Unohana stood to the side, watching the group of people playing around, a gentle smile on her lips, occasionally raising her hand to brush the snowflakes that had fallen on her hair.
But soon, Unohana could no longer maintain this elegance. Snowflakes were still flying on the deck, and the shouts of a snowball fight had already spread to Unohana.
Rangiku dodged Robin's attack with a clump of snow, and retaliated by throwing the snow she had gathered in her arms at Shiraha. But a flash of cold air appeared at Shiraha's fingertips, and the snow condensed into tiny ice crystals in mid-air, which fell softly onto his shoulder.
"Hey! Bai Yu, you're cheating again with your abilities!"
Rangiku stood with her hands on her hips and shouted, but Robin showed no mercy. She chuckled, and several more arms reached out from behind her, grabbing the snow on the deck and quickly shaping it into more than a dozen round snowballs: "Since that's the case, then I won't hold back either."
Before the words were even finished, snowballs rained down on Rangiku and Shiraha.
Kanna joined the fray, carrying a snowball bigger than her head. She toddled over to Unohana, tilting her little face up and saying, "Unohana-neechan, let's fight them together!"
Unohana smiled and nodded, her delicate hand gently waving, and the snow under her feet automatically gathered into a snowball, landing in her palm.
She raised her hand and threw the object, hitting Bai Yu squarely on the back, causing Bai Yu to turn around and glance at her.
The snowball fight lasted from noon until the sun began to set, until the sky turned a warm orange hue and the snow gradually subsided. Only then did the group stop, panting heavily.
The snow on the deck was trampled into a mess, and the snowmen and ice sculptures were knocked crooked. Everyone's nose and cheeks were red from the cold, and the white mist they exhaled wove a hazy veil in the air.
Night fell quickly, but it did nothing to dampen the lively atmosphere on the deck.
Bai Yu had the puppets bring out the oven and copper kettle, and then fetched tea leaves, fresh milk, and rock sugar to prepare roasted milk tea. He was quite certain that his companions had never tasted milk tea before.
