Pirate: I'm about to do something big!
Chapter 29 Joyful Town is Not Joyful
North Sea, Swallow Island, Pleasant Town.
The town is named after joy, and there is naturally a story behind it.
As mentioned before, among the four seas, only the East China Sea, which is under strict control by the World Government and the World Navy, has relatively low pirate activity. In the other three seas, pirate activity is becoming increasingly rampant.
Pleasure Town is a town that was once devastated by pirates, but it was rebuilt through the joint efforts of the townspeople.
To commemorate everyone's hard work and dedication in rebuilding the town, it was named Happy Town.
Trafalgar Law, the future next-generation supernova of pirates and captain of the Heart Pirates, is currently only fifteen years old and lives in this small town.
He and three friends he met in town formed the prototype of the future Heart Pirates, and they are currently living in the home of an elderly inventor named Wolf in the town.
With Wolf's help, the four little ones also found jobs in the small town to make a living.
At this time, Trafalgar Law did not have such a strong desire to go to sea and become a pirate.
He knew clearly who had given him his life at the cost of his own: Don Quixote Rosinante, Don Quixote Doflamingo's brother and a Navy undercover agent, who had given him a new life.
Based on this alone, it would be difficult for Trafalgar Law to make the decision to go to sea as a pirate and oppose the Navy to which Rosinante, his savior, belonged.
Now he has only two thoughts: one is to follow Rosinante's dying wish to live a good life and not to reveal his ability to reap the benefits of surgery to outsiders.
The second is to become strong enough to seek revenge on Rosinante from Doflamingo. It's that simple.
But fate always seems to play tricks on Trafalgar Law.
He had been living so cautiously, yet his enemy, Doflamingo, had chosen Swallow Island as the venue for this underground auction.
Although he didn't know the exact location, Trafalgar Law, as a former member of the Donquixote Family, knew very well that Swallow Island was now under the surveillance of Doflamingo's family members.
If I were to accidentally expose myself, it would bring utter disaster to Happy Town.
"Boss, Mr. Stanley asked when you'll get better. There are a lot of naval warships docked at the port recently, and we're a bit short-handed."
"Baby, don't bother the boss for a while. He said that all his wages during this period are yours."
"But I don't need that much money."
Outside a cozy little house on the edge of Happy Town, a humanoid, adorable polar bear dressed in work clothes is speaking in human language and calling out to people.
This great white bear is named Bepo. Its true identity is a Mink, or beastman in the eyes of ordinary people. Its home is a living island called Zou in the New World Ocean, also known as Elephant Island.
Its true form is a giant elephant that has lived for countless years and walks on the sea.
Heaven knows how such an adorable polar bear ended up in the North Sea from the New World.
As for the two little guys standing next to the polar bear Beibao, one tall and one short, one named Xiaqi and the other named Peijin, they were Luo's friends whom he met when he wandered to Happy Town.
Because he was saved by Law's Op-Op Fruit ability in an accident, he willingly acknowledged Law as his boss.
After some hardships, the four children ended up living with Wolf, an old inventor in Pleasantville, who found them decent jobs in town.
The family of five lived like this for quite some time until recently, when Law claimed to be ill and went to bed after learning that Doflamingo would be holding an underground auction on Swallow Island, which his three underlings could not understand.
How could my boss, a doctor, get sick?
Of course, Luo wasn't sick. As someone who had eaten the Op-Op Fruit, he wouldn't get sick no matter who was sick. He was just afraid.
He was afraid of being discovered by Doflamingo's henchmen, and afraid that the tragedy of causing the death of his benefactor Rosinante due to his ignorance would be repeated.
Through the window, Trafalgar Law watched his three underlings leave before returning to his bed, covering himself with the blanket to hide his trembling body from fear of Doflamingo.
The door was pushed open, and a tall, elderly man walked in. Judging from his physique, it was hard to associate him with the identity of an inventor.
This old man is Wolf, the man who adopted Trafalgar Law's small group.
An old man who always shows off his strange inventions to four little guys and the townspeople.
These inventions were numerous and varied, including aircraft and bulldozers, but they were always scrapped due to various problems.
When the old man Wolf came in, he saw Luo's trembling body under the covers. He didn't ask Luo why he was pretending to be sick or why he was trembling.
He simply carried his toolbox and banged and hammered around in Luo's room.
He was also saying something that perhaps only Luo could understand.
"I'm an inventor, Luo, you know. People in town call me over when something breaks and I fix it for them. I can always fix what they ask me to fix, but there are things I can't fix."
For example, in our town, I had just returned from the sea when it was destroyed. My skills weren't enough to help people rebuild the town; it was everyone in the town who rebuilt it with their own hands. This is something I couldn't do, but the people in the town did it. They restored their homes and made the town even better than before. You can feel that, can't you?
The town's slogan is to bring joy, warmth, and acceptance to everyone. Here, you don't need to live in fear. If you're still afraid, then you need to find out where the problem lies, otherwise you'll never fix yourself. Bebe and the others say you're a doctor, Luo, show some of that doctor's awareness, Luo!
The door closed, and Wolf left after talking to himself.
Luo then peeked out from under the covers and looked at the room, which had been completely transformed after Wolf's banging and tinkering.
This is his new home in Joytown after experiencing two near-death experiences; every corner of the room holds a happy memory.
This made him forget his terrible past in the Don Quixote family for a time.
But now, the past has caught up with him, and he knows he can neither escape it nor forget it.
Since that's the case, shouldn't I, who have been given a new lease on life, do something to comfort the spirit of my savior, Rosinante, in heaven?
That night, at the port of Joyful Town.
The naval warships docked in the town's harbor are undergoing their final replenishment before continuing their patrol mission.
Once the last box of cargo filled the hold and the contents were counted, the marines closed the hatch and left.
As the hatch closed, the marines walked away into the distance. Suddenly, a box of cargo vanished into thin air, and in its place, Luo's figure appeared in the cargo hold.
This is one of the powers of the Op-Op Fruit: Room!
The principle is to use the power of the Op-Op Fruit to create a spherical or hemispherical space. In this space, Law, as the only doctor, can use his fruit power to spatially displace people or objects, or recombine them within his control.
Luo switched the cargo box in the hold with his position in the port, thus infiltrating the warship.
"I knew it! The boss was definitely hiding something from us!"
Before Luo could even cautiously observe the cargo hold, a familiar voice rang out inside, followed by three figures—two adults and one child—emerging from the cargo.
Those were Luo's three younger brothers: Pekin, Shaki, and the Mink Tribe polar bear, Bebo.
The appearance of the three henchmen caught Luo completely off guard.
Seeing that his three underlings were making quite a commotion, Law didn't bother to ask them how they got up there, and activated his Devil Fruit ability again: Room!
A small space enveloped the four people, allowing their voices to circulate only within that small space.
At this moment, the ship began to rock, clearly indicating that the warship, having completed its resupply, was setting sail again, its destination unknown.
But Luo knew.
The reason he had been claiming illness and staying at home was because he recognized the highest-ranking officer of the naval vessels that were docked at the port of Joytown for resupply.
Ghost Bamboo Vergo.
The highest-ranking member of the Don Quixote family.
Cadre code name: Corazon.
They are also Doflamingo's mole planted in the Navy. Their presence here means that the patrol mission they mentioned is actually security for the underground auction held by Doflamingo on Swallow Island.
By following Vergo's warship, he can find out the exact location of Doflamingo's underground auction on Swallow Island.
This would give him a chance to see if he could do something during the auction, perhaps cause some minor disruption to Doflamingo, so that his tormented mind could be lessened.
What Luo didn't expect was that his three underlings had already taken cover in the cargo hold of the warship and were waiting for him to board.
As the warships departed, Luo's attempts to use his abilities to force them off the ship were futile.
His Devil Fruit ability hasn't fully developed yet, and he can only perform short-distance spatial displacement. But it's already beyond Law's current Devil Fruit ability range, so he can't bring himself to throw his three underlings into the sea to feed the fish.
We could only hide together in the cargo hold and see how things went.
