Run, run, run!

Sophia had only one thought in her mind as she continued forward through the mountains, her steps faltering. As a pampered top noblewoman, she had never experienced such a miserable ordeal.

Her ladylike shoes were tattered and worn, thorns piercing the soles of her feet. Sofia's eyes were filled with tears, which gradually turned into vertical pupils.

With her legs feeling weak, she subconsciously bent down and used her limbs to move gracefully, like a cat that had reverted to its ancestral form, traversing the mountains.

Even though she tried so hard, the shadow behind her was getting closer and closer. A dagger emerged from the darkness, its blue light gleaming. It was a poisoned blade.

Feeling the chill behind her, Sofia panicked even more. Her already short limbs became even less agile, and she ran even slower.

Just as the dagger was about to pierce her heart, Sophia tripped over a vine and tumbled down the valley floor.

The shadow behind hesitated for a moment, then carefully grabbed the vine and slowly slid into the valley.

Sofia, who had fallen to the bottom, endured the pain, her beautiful cat eyes glistening with tears, trying to get up again, but no matter what she did, she couldn't get up.

She looked up in despair, only to see a huge statue of the Earth Goddess before her. On the statue, a calico cat was holding a fish, smiling as it looked down on the world and on the disheveled Sofia.

This is an abandoned temple, and the only relatively intact structure among the broken walls is this statue of the Earth Goddess.

Looking at the benevolent Earth Goddess and then at the rapidly sliding shadow on the mountainside, Sofia finally made up her mind.

She bit her palm and quickly drew a complex magic circle on the ground. This was an instinct ingrained in her bones, and also a curse carried by the Mankikang clan.

This magic circle had been drawn by countless Mankikan ancestors, but it had never received a response. However, Sofia, who had nowhere else to turn, had no other choice.

As she recited the cursed oath, she prayed for forgiveness from the earth goddess before her.

After reciting the oath, Sophia stared blankly at the magic circle. Her blood showed no change whatsoever; the ritual had failed.

Sofia closed her eyes in despair. The shadows in the distance were already creeping in, and the cold-faced black cat, holding a dagger, was slowly approaching from behind her.

Just as the black cat stepped into the blood array and the dagger was about to pierce Sophia's nape, neither of them noticed a strange light flashing in the eyes of the Earth Goddess statue.

Suddenly, a person appeared two meters above the magic circle, and the figure that fell from the sky pressed down hard on the black cat.

Yi Yin, who had fallen flat on his back, was completely bewildered. He held a mouse in one hand and a can of cola in the other, muttering to himself.

"Holy crap, what's going on? Did I somehow time-travel?"

Yi Yin shifted his position and saw the black cat below, bleeding from all seven orifices. The sudden turn of events caused him to press the dagger into the black cat's own palm, instantly taking its life.

"Oh dear, what a poor little guy. Did I crush him to death? Why is this cat wearing clothes, looking all human?"

As Yi Yin picked up the black cat, which was fifty or sixty centimeters long, he sighed deeply. At that moment, he heard the timid voice of a young girl.

"You...you are my knight?"

Yi Yin scanned the entire room but didn't see a single person. Instead, he saw a tabby cat dressed in a princess dress standing beside him, looking at him.

"Huh, who's talking?"

"It's me, Sofia Mankik."
