The Witch's Wandering Alchemist's Diary

Chapter 55 The Strange Dog-Headed Man

The kobold priest paused for a moment, then asked tremblingly, "So, sir, is this what you're after?"

"Yes, that's right, it's for this kind of thing."

Lou Le yawned, feeling that nothing was wrong.

"But, more than thirty warriors in my tribe have died."

The kobold priest's voice trembled slightly.

Lou Le narrowed his eyes: "So? What are you trying to say? Accuse me of indiscriminate killing? Tell me, if I had told you beforehand, you would have come out much sooner and told me what I need?"

The kobold priest fell silent, unable to speak.

Lou Le glanced at him: "Do you know how many people have died at the hands of the kobolds in the past twelve months?"

"Because I am a mage, I wield power. That's why you're here pitifully complaining about your suffering. But what if you were an ordinary person?"

"You kobolds will definitely kill them, won't you? When that happens, will you listen to their pleas for mercy?"

"Probably not."

Lou Le said, "So, those thirty kobolds. I killed them, and that's it. I won't say anything like I did nothing wrong."

"If you have to blame someone, blame yourself for being weak. You are the enemy, and you are weak. You have absolutely no power."

The kobold priest closed his eyes in anguish: "I know that the purpose of our tribes here is to cultivate those fire bells and fire grass."

"That's why we weren't completely wiped out. But does that mean we'll have to live like this for generations to come?"

"They were killed like livestock."

"If that's the case, then the Creator shouldn't have given us wisdom."

Tears streamed down its withered, wrinkled dog face as it cried out in anguish, "As a priest, I must find a new way out for the tribe. But I see no way out at all."

Lou Le said somewhat casually, "You've already wasted a lot of my time. If you don't tell me the answer soon, you might die."

The kobold was silent for a moment, then said, "Master mage, if we hand over the plan for cultivating the fire bells, we'll probably be useless. Our reason for existing will probably disappear."

"It's like a craftsman losing his craft."

"So, you're refusing?"

Lou Le stared at the dog-headed man in front of him.

"We dare not refuse your request, sir," the kobold priest said humbly. "I am willing to teach you the method of cultivating the Firebell, but I humbly request an answer from you."

"If all you want is for me to keep the method of cultivating the Firebell from being leaked, I can agree to that."

Lou Le spoke with some impatience.

The kobold priest shook his head and said, "My lord, I would not presume to ask you to do such things."

"I only want the answer to one question, Master."

It made a humble plea.

Lou Le looked at the strange dog-headed man in front of her and said, "Tell me, and I'll decide whether to answer you based on my mood."

The kobold priest said, "Kobolds, how can we live in this world with dignity, like humans, elves, or dwarves? So that we won't be slaughtered like livestock?"

"Is this the question you wanted to ask?"

The little witch was somewhat surprised, not expecting a kobold to ask such a question.

The kobold priest nodded. "That's exactly what I wanted to ask, Master."

"If you asked this kind of question in front of other mages, you'd probably get killed on the spot."

Lou Le said to him.

The kobold priest said, "But you are different. You are different from other serious and rigid mages. You seem to be more carefree and less concerned about other things."

"You don't seem like a traditional monk."

Lou Le ignored the kobold's flattery.

After thinking for a moment, he said to the dog-headed man, "The difference between livestock and intelligent life lies in civilization."

"Without civilization, we are nothing more than livestock."

"Elves, humans, dwarves, and other races considered intelligent beings all possess their own civilizations."

Even the worst civilization is still a civilization.

Lou Le gave the kobolds this answer, and the kobolds kept repeating the word "civilization".

It then asked, "So, what exactly is civilization?"

Lou Le said, "Civilization is creation. To possess civilization is to create something that has never existed in this world before."

The kobold thought to itself, "Aren't we kobolds considered civilized now?"

Lou Le scoffed and then simply said to it, "Right now, you can only be called alive."

The kobold wanted to ask more questions, but the little witch just waved her hand dismissively.

"I've answered enough, kobold."

The kobold priest, along with several kobold warriors, entered the cave. They then brought out several bags of items.

Finally, he said, "Master, the method for cultivating fire bells cannot be written down. Therefore, it can only be described orally."

"The cultivation of Firebell requires a volcanic and hot spring environment, but a hot spring environment can be created using Fire Yellow Crystal and Flame Grass."

"They all emit light and heat, especially fire citronella. Putting a lot of it into the soil where fire bells are planted can sustain the growth of fire bells."

"The seeds of the Flame Grass and the Fire Yellow Crystal are both inside."

The kobold priest pointed to the things wrapped in animal fur.

After checking, Lou Le found that the kobold priest had not played any tricks.

After throwing it into the space of the magic book, she prepared to go back.

Now that the matter of the fire bell has been resolved.

There's no point in staying here any longer.

However, Lou Le glanced at the kobold priest in front of him again.

She said, "Someday I might hear your name again, you dog-headed creature. Of course, there's a good chance it'll be in the bard's jokes."

"What's your name?"

That's what she asked.

The kobold priest paused for a moment: "I have no name, because I was born with the talent to use magic, so they all call me by my priestly roar."

"In our kobold barks, the actual meaning of the priest's bark, in human terms, is that of a guide dog."

Lou Le glanced at it and said, "Really? Then forget it."

The little witch turned and left.

Lou Le thought that a dog-headed man with a mind full of strange questions might do something astonishing in the future.
