The Witch's Wandering Alchemist's Diary

Chapter 58 Wheat Fields of Graystone City

Graystone City is a large city with three walls, one inside and one outside.

The outermost ring of the city wall is an irregular ellipse, winding and crooked. The inner city wall is slightly better, and you can barely make out that it is an ellipse.

The innermost part is the noble district, which is a perfect circle.

The city's overall color is a dull gray, and all the stones appear to be of the same material. It looks like a mountain has been hollowed out, but it is indeed beautiful.

Moreover, the city walls were extremely thick and extremely high.

Judging from its appearance, it is a city wall that has been built with great effort.

That's a bit beyond the technological level of that time, but it must have been with the help of a mage.

Lou Le and Limela sat in front of the carriage, letting it slowly travel along the road.

Looking out at the gray stone city, Lou Le stretched vigorously.

"Finally, we can go into the city. I'm so tired of eating salted eggs these past few days."

Limela said, "Nowadays, for most people, even eating eggs is a luxury."

Lou Le didn't take it seriously, after all, it was the Magic Tree, plus the influence of three elemental planes.

That vast land was used to raise poultry.

Eggs are not in short supply.

The yield is higher than that of ordinary ones.

Limela then asked, "Should we sell some, Miss Loule?"

"No need, just leave it there."

Lou Le said, "Anyway, it won't spoil if it's stored there."

She feels she has developed hoarding disorder; she'll just leave it there for now.

"Now we don't need to make pickled eggs anymore, so we can increase the number of chickens. That way, we can eat some chicken meat in the future."

Limera wrote it down, and their carriage arrived at the city gate.

Graystone City has stricter checks, and there are far more horses coming and going than in Ghostwood Town.

At the foot of the city wall was a large shantytown, which looked extremely dilapidated.

Outside the shantytowns, there are vast wheat fields that look golden.

In some places, harvesting has already begun.

However, some are slow, and some are fast.

Lou Le looked around and saw that some of the sickles were made of iron, some of them of bone, and some of them of stone.

Those using iron sickles would have to sharpen them vigorously with a stone after only making a few cuts. Bone sickles needed to be sharpened even more frequently, sometimes after just three to five cuts.

The stone sickle, however, looks more like a saw than a tool for harvesting wheat.

With his butt sticking out high, even if the sweat shattered into eight pieces, not much could be sawed off.

Beside the wheat field, there were people renting out sickles. They sat in a small wooden shed, fanning themselves and drinking water.

They didn't shout out their wares; they simply used a bamboo pole to hold up an iron sickle as their signboard.

The gatekeeper of Graystone City wore half-body iron armor, but that was something he could be proud of.

He was extremely arrogant and domineering towards the other merchants and those who wanted to enter the city.

But when he saw Lou Le's carriage, his pupils immediately contracted.

He immediately shouted loudly to the other carriages: "Get out of the way! Get out of the way! Make way for the monk!"

The people in front quickly led their carriages off the road and directly into the wheat field.

This provoked a barrage of curses from the farmers, who then began arguing amongst themselves.

The soldier quickly approached the carriage and humbly said, "Master Mage, welcome to Graystone City. Graystone City will definitely not disappoint you; it boasts excellent food, a clean environment, and a safe surroundings."

The soldier quickly repeated the standard lines his superior had given him before finally letting out a sigh of relief.

Lou Le glanced at him and casually tossed him a bottle of healing potion.

The soldier was both surprised and delighted, and couldn't help but show it off as he held it in his hand.

Lou Le didn't care about being given a bottle of healing potion.

There are advantages to being an ordinary person; they are easy to win over, and sometimes they can even be used in a clever way.

As a gatekeeper, one's job is both important and unimportant.

However, he met many people and his sources of information were diverse.

Lou Le gave him a few instructions, telling him that if anyone sells herbs in the future, he can have them come to him directly.

The rarer the herb, the better.

The soldier immediately replied, "Master, please rest assured. I absolutely guarantee that every herb gatherer who comes in will hear this message."

Lou Le nodded and then drove the carriage into the city.

Graystone City was indeed better; at least the ground was paved with stone bricks. Moreover, the passageways and alleys between the houses were also paved with stone bricks.

What surprised Lou Le even more was that there was a sewer system here!

After passing through the second city wall, you will reach the inner city.

There were no streetlights in the outer city, but there were many streetlights in the inner city, with one streetlight almost every ten meters or so.

The inner city is mostly a commercial area, and the residential density is not as high as that of the outer city.

There's even a small lake here.

Ample greenery remains on both sides of the lake.

"Tonight, you can park the carriage by the river."

Lou Le said to Limera, "However, we need to go find Marco first."

As a local first-ring mage, Lou Le felt he could get a lot of information from Marco.

They drove the carriage to the entrance of the noble district, and the soldiers did not stop them.

After all, that bone horse and wooden cart were clearly the work of a sorcerer.

They simply bowed respectfully to Lou Le and then returned to their original posture.

Every paving stone in the aristocratic district is a square bluestone.

The carriage went up very smoothly.

Lou Le was very satisfied with this and walked on the muddy road for more than a month.

Walking on the smooth road once again, she was already completely satisfied.

Upon entering the noble district, she looked at the three tall towers.

Monks prefer to live in tall towers because they are high enough and communication is simple and convenient.

Even escaping is convenient.

Many mages possess spells that allow them to briefly fly, so even if something happens, they can simply fly away from the top of the tower.

Another key feature is its high level of secrecy; at least ordinary thieves wouldn't be able to climb the tower.

Lou Le glanced at the three towers that looked different, but she didn't know which tower Marco was in.

"It seems the only solution is to ask."

The little witch assigned this task to Limera.

After all, that's what a maid's job is.

The two of them randomly chose to drive in the direction of a tower, but at a very slow speed.

After finally encountering someone wearing a mage's robe, Limeira immediately called out to the apprentice mage.

The apprentice monk glanced at the bone horse and the seemingly living vines entwined around the carriage.

He addressed Lou Le respectfully, saying, "Greetings, Master Weaver."
