Chapter 104 The Tea Party of the Madmen
A black Osprey transport plane hovered above the swaying deck of the Odyssey.
The strong airflow made it impossible to open one's eyes.
Evelyn Reed didn't even blink.
She carried no luggage, only her worn-out black-rimmed glasses, and was the first to walk up the spiral staircase.
Captain Frank Coulson, standing behind her, wanted to say something, but Kyle silenced him with a single glance.
As Evelyn stepped into the cabin, more than twenty sperm whales on the sea below simultaneously dived and disappeared into the deep blue.
The seas around the Odyssey have returned to calm.
This scene made Evelyn's eyes light up.
"Efficient instruction delivery," she muttered to herself.
The cabin door closed, and the noise decreased sharply.
Kyle and his squad members sat down and silently checked their weapons.
Evelyn surveyed the interior of the transport plane. The cabin was clean, and all the equipment was neatly arranged, indicating that the crew had undergone rigorous training.
"Are you soldiers?" she asked Kyle.
"We are employees of SHIELD Ventures," Kyle replied.
"A security company that owns a V-22 Osprey?" Evelyn raised an eyebrow.
"The company has a wide range of businesses."
Evelyn didn't press the matter further; she knew she wouldn't get anything out of this man.
She just found it increasingly interesting.
This sounds like a very high-level academic invitation.
After half an hour.
The Osprey transport plane landed smoothly on the helicopter deck of the Atlante cruise ship.
Evelyn stepped off the plane, the sea breeze ruffling her messy hair.
A young man dressed in casual clothes was standing there, next to an old professor who looked somewhat neurotic.
It was Shen Fei and Archibald.
Evelyn's gaze skipped over the professor and locked onto Shen Fei.
The young man looked even younger than she had imagined.
But his eyes were unfathomable.
"Mr. Shen," Evelyn spoke up first.
"Dr. Reed, welcome." Shen Fei extended his hand.
The two hands are clasped together.
Evelyn didn't mince words, saying directly, "The Challenger Abyss is a weak point in the Earth's crust; the pressure there is extremely unstable. If you try to use it as a fulcrum, your lever will snap on the spot."
"That's why I need an engineer who can build sufficiently strong levers." Shen Fei released his grip, turned, and led the way. "This way, please. Our conference room is a bit special."
They entered the command center.
A starry sky was displayed on a huge circular screen. In the center of the screen was a blue planet, slowly rotating, its surface covered with complex data streams.
Hannah Schmidt is standing in front of the screen, her hands flying across the virtual keyboard.
"Hannah, our guests have arrived," Shen Fei introduced.
Hannah turned around, her gaze meeting Evelyn's in mid-air. The two women sized each other up.
"Dr. Evelyn Reed, I've heard so much about you. I've read your paper on 'Using Resonant Cascade Reactions to Trigger Controlled Geological Changes,' a brilliant idea," Hannah said first.
"Just a piece of paper rejected by every journal." Evelyn shrugged. "Hannah Schmidt, the ghost of bioinformatics and genetic engineering, your cross-species gene compilation algorithm is far more insane than my paper."
"Alright, ladies, let's not rush into flattering each other," Shen Fei interrupted them. "We don't have much time."
He pointed to the main screen.
"Before I explain my plan, I need you to look at some basic information first."
As soon as he finished speaking, the Earth model on the main screen disappeared. The screen was filled with a new data stream, raw data about the Devourer and the Core Striker from Watcher-07.
The screen displays the energy spectrum, as well as gravitational waveforms and changes in the curvature of space.
Professor Archibald looked completely bewildered.
But Evelyn and Hannah's expressions changed several times in a matter of seconds.
"God...this is...this is an energy decay model of a transdimensional parasite?" Hannah's voice trembled.
"No, more than that." Evelyn shoved her assistant aside and rushed to the control panel. "Look at this gravitational wave, its rhythm. This isn't something a natural celestial body could emit. It's regular, like a heartbeat. Is... a living thing attacking our planet's core?"
"Now, welcome to my firewall plan," Shen Fei's voice rang out again.
"My goal is to solve these two things."
He briefly explained his plan: to renovate the prison, detonate the two gods, and then sink into the Earth's core.
The command center was completely silent.
Professor Archibald stared, feeling utterly useless in the face of all this.
Hannah frowned, her fingers moving rapidly through the air, as if she were conducting a rapid biological model simulation.
After hearing this, Evelyn fell silent, her breathing becoming somewhat rapid.
She walked to the screen and stared intently at the two energy curves that represented the Devourer and the Striker, respectively.
"One inside, trying to break free."
"One is outside, trying to break in."
"Your idea... is very bold, Mr. Shen. You want to turn them into a closed-loop system of energy cancellation."
She turned around abruptly and looked at Shen Fei, her eyes behind her glasses flashing with an alarming light.
"But you've overlooked a crucial point."
"That prison, Tartarus, was built on a continental shelf. Trying to precisely throw it into the Earth's core is like trying to pry open a piece of marble embedded in concrete with a noodle."
"You simply cannot cut it apart intact without triggering a global mega-earthquake!"
Shen Fei smiled.
"That's why I invited you here, Dr. Reed."
"I need you to design a method for me to cut through the continental shelf, along with a device that can stabilize the entire planet's crust during the cutting process."
"..."
Evelyn was speechless for a moment.
Cutting open the continental shelf? Stabilizing the global crust?
This is God's work.
Ten minutes later.
She looked up, her face flushed with a sickly redness.
"Theoretically... there is one possibility."
She walked to a whiteboard, picked up a pen, and began writing frantically.
"We need an energy source with power that can instantly exceed the total output of an entire solar storm. We also need a cooling system that can absorb the heat from the evaporation of the entire Pacific Ocean within a millisecond."
"A completely new material is also needed, with structural strength capable of withstanding the convection of the mantle and the gravity of the core."
"And," she paused, turning to look at Shen Fei, "we need an anchor."
"An anchor that can precisely fix all the equipment at the joint of the plates without itself wobbling."
"These things don't exist on Earth at all."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Shen Fei, as if waiting for him to give up.
However, Shen Fei simply listened calmly.
Then, he connected to another communication.
"07, did you hear that?"
The thought echoed in the minds of everyone in the room, sounding somewhat reluctant.
I heard you.
"Energy source, cooling system, new materials, and anchor. Does your mothership have these things?"
Watcher-07 fell silent.
Everyone else in the command center, except Kyle, froze.
Whose voice is that?
Mothership? What mothership?
[...The energy source can be provided by the mothership's main guns. The cooling system can be achieved by modifying the warp drive's heat dissipation units.]
[Our new ship armor, made of new materials, can partially meet your strength requirements.]
But the anchor...
We do not have anchors that can be used inside a planet.
"Then what will you use to dock on the far side of the moon?" Shen Fei pressed.
[...Anti-gravity stabilizer.]
"Very good." Shen Fei interrupted him. "Evelyn, is an anti-gravity stabilizer that can levitate a ten-kilometer-long starship in a vacuum enough to serve as your anchor?"
Evelyn's mouth was agape, unable to speak. She looked at Shen Fei, then at the ceiling, as if trying to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
She looked at Shen Fei, a young man who looked about the same age as her.
He not only found God.
He even turned God into his project supplier.
