Chapter 81 Boss, the 'toy' you want isn't cheap!
"Su Man, this is not something you can interfere with."
Shen Fei turned around, his voice not loud, but Su Man subconsciously loosened her grip on his arm.
He didn't look at anyone and went straight to his desk.
"David, disconnect the call and carry out the order."
David on the other side of the screen opened his mouth, but finally whispered "Yes," and the video cut off.
"Hannah, all of Leviathan's data is classified as top secret and hosted on a separate server. I don't want anyone else but you and me to see it."
Hannah pushed up her glasses, and a string of code flashed across the lens.
"clear."
Finally, Shen Fei's gaze fell on Kyle.
"Kyle, let's go."
"Where are we going?" Su Man couldn't help but ask.
Shen Fei picked up a coat without turning around.
"Let's go buy a toy."
Half an hour later.
A Bell 429 helicopter took off from the helipad at Great Strange Estate, its rotors churning the cold Newfoundland night fog.
The plane did not turn on any navigation lights and quickly disappeared into the night.
Inside the cabin, Shenfei and Kyle sat facing each other, both wearing dark tactical jackets.
"Boss, the person we're going to meet this time is called Ivan."
Kyle's voice came through the tactical headset, clearly isolating the engine roar.
"A former officer of the Soviet Northern Fleet, now the top supplier of scrap military equipment in North America. From bullets to destroyers, he can get them if you can afford the price."
Shen Fei looked out the window at the rapidly receding forest.
Is he reliable?
"He only cares about money," Kyle replied bluntly. "That's what makes him reliable."
The helicopter flew for two hours before landing in a private harbor surrounded by barbed wire and searchlights.
This location does not belong to any known location on the map.
The air was filled with the smell of diesel fuel and rust.
A man wearing a bulky leather coat was standing on the tarmac, a nearly extinguished cigar dangling from his mouth.
He was overweight and had a faded anchor tattooed on his arm.
"Kyle, my old friend!"
Ivan opened his arms and gave Kyle a tight hug.
"I thought you'd died somewhere out there! I never expected you'd find such a young boss."
His gaze shifted to Shen Fei, and he looked him up and down.
"Ivan," Kyle got straight to the point, "my boss needs a submarine."
"Submarines?" Ivan laughed, revealing a set of teeth stained yellow with tobacco. "I have plenty here. Do you want some servo motors salvaged from an Akula-class submarine? Or a sonar dome from a Seawolf-class submarine; it could make a decent bathtub."
"We need the whole ship," Shen Fei said.
Ivan's smile faded somewhat.
"Young man, you've got quite the nerve. Military submarines are controlled items, and trading them privately is very risky."
"So your quote should already include the cost of the risk," Shen Fei said calmly, looking at him.
Ivan stared at Shen Fei for a few seconds, then grinned.
"I like straightforward customers like you. Come with me."
He turned and led the two men into a huge dock.
The dock is filled with various disassembled metal parts.
Ivan stopped in front of a huge waterproof canvas.
He snapped his fingers, and several workers immediately stepped forward and laboriously lifted the canvas.
A jet-black submarine appeared before the three of them.
Its shape is unique and unlike any other country's standard submarine.
The boat has a long hull, covered with a layer of sound-absorbing tiles, and has very smooth lines.
"The Abyss Walker".
"A project from a private defense company before its bankruptcy, specifically designed for deep-sea exploration and special operations. It features a titanium alloy double-hull design, a maximum diving depth of 3,000 meters, three silent electric thrusters, and comes with a small robotic arm and sample collection compartment."
"Its voiceprint signal is not in any country's naval database. With it in operation, you won't be detected in the ocean."
Shen Fei's gaze swept over every detail of the submarine.
He could sense that every part of this submarine existed for one purpose: to quietly submerge into the deep sea.
"Who was its previous owner?" Shen Fei asked.
“A madman,” Ivan shrugged. “He wanted to use this thing to find something in the Mariana Trench, but he and the ship disappeared together. Three years later, the ship floated up on its own and came to rest off the coast of Hawaii, completely empty.”
"The ship's system logs were all wiped clean, and nobody knows what happened to it."
Ivan patted the hull of the boat, making a dull thud.
"So, it's a bit unlucky. But the performance is excellent. How about it, interested?"
"Name your price," Shen Fei said.
Ivan extended three thick fingers.
Thirty million US dollars.
Kyle's eyebrow twitched.
"Ivan, are you crazy?"
Ivan remained adamant: "This price includes subsequent maintenance and crew training. We'll also deliver it discreetly to your designated dock."
Shen Fei remained silent.
He stepped forward and gently placed his palm on the cold hull of the boat.
A faint trace of spiritual energy seeped into the submarine through his palm.
A jumble of images flooded his mind.
A deep darkness, immense pressure, and a chilling feeling of being stared at by something.
The eyes looked exactly like Hannah's in the video.
"make a deal."
Shen Fei withdrew his hand and uttered two words.
Ivan paused for a moment, then burst into laughter.
"Great! I love clients like you!"
He pulled an encrypted satellite phone from his pocket.
"This is my private number. Transfer the money to the Swiss bank account I've given you, and the 'Abyss Walker' will arrive at your dock within a week."
On the way back to the manor, it was already dawn.
Kyle was still somewhat incredulous.
"Boss, thirty million US dollars... is it worth it for something that might even exist?"
"Kyle," Shen Fei said, looking at the sunrise outside the window, "Do you think it's just a fantasy that Poseidon Industries is willing to spend tens of billions of dollars to feed something?"
"The value of that thing may far exceed our imagination."
"What I want is not to prove its existence."
"What I want is to own it."
When I returned to the study, Su Man was curled up on the sofa, covered with a blanket, and had already fallen asleep.
She frowned slightly, indicating that she was not sleeping soundly.
Shen Fei walked over and gently picked her up.
Su Man was startled awake. She opened her eyes and saw that it was Shen Fei, and then she relaxed.
"You're back..."
"Yes, I'm back."
Shen Fei carried her into the bedroom, placed her on the soft bed, and covered her with a blanket.
"Shen Fei," Su Man grabbed his hand, "Promise me you won't do anything too dangerous, okay?"
Shen Fei sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her.
"Su Man, Poseidon Industries is facing an unknown entity."
He gripped Su Man's hand tightly.
"I will not run away; I will take control of it."
Looking into his eyes, Su Man ultimately decided not to try to persuade him any further.
She simply said softly, "Then you must come back."
"must."
the next day.
David's team formally notified the board of directors of Poseidon Industries of an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders.
The notice was simple: the company's major shareholder would be present to conduct a comprehensive inventory of all the company's assets.
The news sent shockwaves through Wall Street.
Poseidon Industries' stock price rose accordingly.
Everyone wanted to see who this new owner, who had seized control of the company, was.
Meanwhile, in the underground research room of the manor.
Hannah had dark circles under her eyes, and in front of her was a row of empty cans of bluefin tuna.
She finally cracked the second layer of data in the "Leviathan" folder.
It was a feeding log that lasted for ten years.
She dialed Shen Fei's internal communication line.
"Shen Fei, I think I know how Poseidon Industries feeds it now."
Her voice was trembling.
"They used living people."
