The dream of becoming a Pokémon master
36. Life is fragile; don't play with it.
Wu tried flying in the sky for a while, then landed, flew to the Charizard, nodded to it, and flapped its wings to pat its body.
Charmander looked puzzled and, after confirming several times, slowly climbed onto Wu's back.
Kyosuke understood Mai's meaning. His own evolution would undoubtedly result in an exceptionally large size, allowing him to carry Charizard, which hadn't yet learned to fly, into the air and spray flames at the steel plates at close range, easily burning through them.
However, this plan was very damaging to dance. And not just because of evolution.
Charmeleon may not have realized it, but Kyosuke is very sensitive to injuries.
But since Mai made the sacrifice herself, and Kyosuke had no other choice, he couldn't stop her.
Seeing Charizard's eyes fixed on the steel plate, solely focused on burning through it, Kyosuke couldn't stop it.
After a full minute of intense heat, a large hole was finally burned through the steel plate. Kyosuke didn't give Charizard a chance to roar and immediately recalled it.
Mai slowly descended from the sky, and Kyosuke quickly took out burn ointment and sprayed it on Mai's body.
The most distinctive feature of the Charmander series is their flaming tails. When Charmander was on Mai's body, its tail naturally lay on her, constantly scorching her. Not to mention the close contact with the scorching steel plates, and the constant hot air from the flamethrowers surrounding her. Mai didn't say a word.
She always maintains a cool and aloof demeanor while doing thoughtful things.
When the steel plate burned through, the soil behind it had already turned into liquid and dripped down along with the molten iron. Once no more liquid was dripping out, Kyosuke quickly treated Mai's burns, stood behind her, and took off again.
Having flown out of the melted hole, Kyosuke finally returned to the ground. He let Mai fly a little higher, jumped over a random rooftop, and immediately recalled her. Then, he performed a leap of faith and landed in a haystack.
After quickly changing his clothes, Kyosuke found the bag he had hidden earlier and hailed a taxi on the highway to head to the Pokémon Center in Celadon City.
Although it was strange to see a trainer with blood on his hands holding an Eevee that looked like it was in pain, the driver was just an ordinary person and could only remain silent and drive at high speed to reach the destination as quickly as possible.
When Kyosuke arrived at the Pokémon Center, he breathed a sigh of relief. He glanced at the meter showing 6000, sighed at the prices in the big city, handed over a 10,000 bill, got off the bus, picked up Eevee, and went into the Pokémon Center.
"Please heal it, and my Pokémon too," Kyosuke pleaded with Nurse Joy, holding Eevee in his arms.
Joy looked up at the Eevee in Kyosuke's hands, realizing something was amiss. She immediately stood up, carefully took the Eevee, and placed it in a padded basket beside her. Glancing at Kyosuke's hands, she asked a medical staff member to help with the paperwork before preparing to leave. Kyosuke quickly handed her the Poké Balls for Charmeleon and Butterfree. Joy picked them up again, placed them next to Eevee, and was about to turn away when she couldn't help but say to Kyosuke, "Even if you've messed up the Pokémon like this, you should still get yourself bandaged up." Then she turned and walked into the operating room.
Kyosuke was in no mood to bandage himself, and besides, he knew his own body best; he would recover in a few days.
All he wants now is for everyone to be safe.
Kyosuke sat silently in the lobby of the Pokémon Center.
There aren't many people here right now. Most of the locals and tourists in Rainbow City have been drawn to the earthquake and collapse of the amusement park and are all there to watch the excitement. It's rare for Kyosuke to enjoy peace and quiet in this usually bustling place.
He quietly opened Little Sparrow's Poké Ball.
Huang'er thought it was Xiong Jie asking her to come out and play again. She called out "Que'er, Que'er" twice but received no response. Seeing Xiong Jie's dejected appearance, she also felt down. She slowly flew to Xiong Jie's head and perched there without moving.
Feeling the care from the little swan, Huang'er, Kyosuke's heart gradually calmed down, and he was no longer as nervous and self-reproachful as before.
Feeling this way right now won't help at all.
Unable to leave now, Kyosuke began to let his mind wander in the empty hall.
Thinking of the happy days spent with everyone, thinking of the amusement park, I can't help but think of the Team Rocket members and their Pokémon who remained inside. They didn't leave; perhaps they've already died inside.
Although they committed many evils, they are still lives.
This is the second time Kyosuke has come into contact with death since he started his trip.
One was of Huang'er's parents, showing what they looked like after their deaths.
One was the Rockets team not long ago, during their final moments.
Kyosuke knew that every life would come to an end, and that time would show no mercy to any life. But if he could, he wished it wasn't being reminded of that in this way.
Death is not as simple and easy to understand as it seems on the surface.
For the first time, Kyosuke, guided by the ghost, saved Houji, who was still an elf egg.
The second time, looking at the humans and their Pokémon in front of him, Kyosuke was truly helpless. In fact, he and his Pokémon almost died there.
People often say that you only realize the value of something when you lose it.
Kyosuke didn't want to lose anything, and this experience taught him the pain of loss. Every Pokémon was a precious treasure to him.
He lifted the phoenix from his head and held it in his hands. Looking up, he saw that she was not as lively as usual.
Kyosuke also secretly blamed himself. As a trainer, he had made a huge mistake by letting his low mood affect his Pokémon.
Forcing himself to stay alert, Kyosuke started playing with Huang'er with a smile. Before long, Huang'er regained her usual liveliness, circling around Kyosuke. Kyosuke patted her head and put her back into her Poké Ball.
He was unaware that Huang'er had already noticed his hands, which were covered in dried blood, and he was also unaware of how ugly his forced smile looked.
Kyosuke fell silent again, sitting quietly by himself, waiting for news, whether good or bad.
More and more people gradually arrived. It was already evening.
The surgery is still not over.
Aside from feeding Nidoran and Houji, Kyosuke did nothing else. Of course, Kyosuke had disguised himself when summoning them, and Nidoran naturally didn't notice.
The operating room lights didn't go out until the early hours of the morning.
Kyosuke immediately stood up and walked towards the operating room door.
Joey walked outside.
Kyosuke reached out his hand, wanting to ask a question, but didn't know how to start.
Joy, however, knew what he was thinking. Without waiting for him to speak, she said directly, "Eevee wasn't seriously injured. It was just that someone had triggered the genes related to evolving Flareon, Vaporeon, and Jolteon within its body, causing a genetic conflict that resulted in pain. It's asleep now. Since you're its trainer, you should think of a solution. If it doesn't evolve, it will suffer this pain forever."
Thinking about Eevee's background, Kyosuke couldn't bring himself to say something like "I'm not its trainer," so he could only nod.
Although Joey found Kyousuke's behavior a bit strange, he continued, "Charmeleon is alright, it just suffered from severe stamina loss and poisoning, but it's fine now. It's just your Butterfree..."
"Wu, what happened to Wu?" Kyosuke suddenly grabbed Joey's arm excitedly and asked anxiously.
If Wu suffers any lasting consequences from this operation, he will never forgive himself!
"Mai, that's the name of that Butterfree, isn't it? It's a beautiful name. Although her injuries are severe, thanks to her Bug-type healing abilities and the advanced equipment here, she can fully recover. However, if she goes out and participates in battles again, who knows what kind of aftereffects she might suffer. To be honest, I hope you can stay here for two weeks so she can recover properly."
What could Kyosuke say? Of course, he accepted the offer and kept thanking Joey.
As for the cost? For Kyosuke, money is just a number.
