The dream of becoming a Pokémon master
62. The Vanishing Nidoran!
In Kyosuke's mind, Professor Oak is an all-knowing genius when it comes to Pokémon, but it's not scientific that even he doesn't know some Pokémon secrets!
"To understand these issues, we need to conduct research using Pokémon bodies. However, this is something that the academic community currently resists. Even corpses, whether they died in the wild or belong to a trainer's Pokémon, are not given to others for research by their companions and trainers. Not to mention that most Pokémon actually live longer than humans," Professor Oak explained. "But perhaps you can discover the secrets behind Pokémon's ability to use moves from everyday life, Kyosuke."
"So, Doctor, you think highly of me?" Kyosuke said with a wry smile.
"Yes." He actually admitted it?
"But even if I discover the secret to using the skill, it doesn't seem to be of much use, does it?" Kyosuke also had another question.
"Is that really the case? Let's take your favorite example: boosting your combat power. If you knew the principles behind the Destruction Ray and Giga Impact, could you also find a way to eliminate the side effects? Or could the principles be applied to humans, making them as powerful as Pokémon, or even advancing technology? These would all be of great significance." With that, Professor Oak finished examining Charmeleon and beckoned Kyosuke to sit closer.
"Next, I'll tell you what these indicators mean," Professor Oak said to Kyosuke, pointing to a long string of data on the computer screen.
"I don't think I need to know this, right?" Kyosuke felt a headache coming on just looking at all the dense text and wanted to slip away.
"You're Charmeleon's trainer. If even you don't care about its condition, who's going to discover its problems?" Professor Oak said seriously. "Many trainers don't pay attention to Pokémon issues and make a lot of jokes, like thinking Pikachu is sick when it absorbs too much electricity and turns into an electromagnetic state. Do you still think these things are unnecessary to understand?"
"Yes, yes, you're a PhD, whatever you say is right." Kyosuke nodded helplessly.
But the Pikachu getting sick, I think it refers to Ash, right?
"So the first data point represents what's inside the Pokémon's body..."
The afternoon passed quickly, and Professor Oki's day of research came to an end. It was time for Kyosuke to go home.
"Well then, I'll leave this little crybaby in your care, Professor." Kyosuke pushed Nidoran in front of Professor Oak and handed him his Poké Ball.
"Leave it to me. I'll definitely think of a good solution to your problem tonight," Professor Oak said confidently.
He had seen countless problems like this over the decades, and he had solved them all without a second thought. In his mind, Professor Oak simply considered it a piece of cake.
"You crybaby, you have to cooperate with the professor too." Kyosuke squatted down and patted Nidoran's head. "I'll come see you tomorrow."
Nidoran thought to himself: You've definitely abandoned me here like the other Pokémon and aren't coming back. I've seen quite a few of my kind today. I'd better get out of here tonight.
On the surface, however, he still maintained a nonchalant attitude.
After saying goodbye to the professor, Kyosuke began his journey home.
Kyosuke was still a little worried about Fengshuang, who was at home, since he didn't go home for lunch.
When they got home, he was prepared to hear Fengshuang's complaints, but Fengshuang just looked at Xiongjie with a very strange gaze.
It's considered miraculous because Kyosuke truly didn't understand the meaning in Kazesou's eyes.
"Frost, are you hungry? I'll get you something to eat right away." Kyosuke released a few more Pokémon into the courtyard, then said to Frost, and prepared to go to the refrigerator to find some ingredients.
Feng Shuang shook his head, indicating that he had already eaten.
Although Kyosuke was surprised, he just assumed that Kazama had found something to eat outside and didn't investigate further.
"Oh, right." Kyosuke suddenly remembered the professor's request, "I might have to go to the professor's place every day for the next two months to help out. Do you want to come with me? Otherwise, it will be difficult for me to take care of you."
Feng Shuang shook his head. He was currently completely resistant to research and naturally wouldn't accept the suggestion.
However, Kazama still made a request to Kyosuke.
"Hmm, making more food every day? No problem, but don't overdo your training." Kyosuke thought for a moment and accepted Kazama's request.
Fengshuang also breathed a sigh of relief.
Having settled the issue of guarding the house amidst the frost and snow, Kyosuke went online for a while before washing up and going to bed.
The next day, after finishing their morning training and sending Fengshuang home, Kyosuke took the other Pokémon's Poké Balls to Professor Oak's lab.
I arrived at the research institute, but it seems... something's different today?
Professor Oak, contrary to his usual demeanor, was frantically searching for something, showing none of his usual boss-like composure.
"What's wrong, Professor? Is Ash here?" Kyosuke joked.
Professor Oak looked embarrassed when he saw Kyosuke arrive: "Kyosuke, I have some bad news for you."
"Did something happen to the crybaby?" Kyosuke was startled, but then he thought of Professor Oak's Pokémon level and felt relieved.
"Pretty much, Nidoran, uh, it escaped."
"???"
"Didn't you say you were going to let Nidoran rest outside tonight? But it's gone this morning. The security footage shows it escaped in the middle of the night," the doctor said apologetically.
"I'm sorry, Doctor, I probably won't be able to help you with your research today." Kyosuke bowed to the doctor and immediately ran out.
To find Nidoran's whereabouts, all forces must be gathered.
Naturally, Kyosuke first went home to summon Glaceon Frostbite.
He ran home as fast as he could, which meant he hadn't been out for very long, but when Kyosuke opened the door, he found Fusou looking very nervous.
Without time to ponder Fengshuang's little secret, Kyosuke took Fengshuang to the courtyard and released a few more, then immediately began to set up his plan.
"The crybaby is gone." Kyosuke explained the situation first. "We'll find him, right?"
"Hooray!" "Bui!" "Sparrow!"
A chorus of responses followed. Wu nodded as well.
"Zhonghuo, you and Wu are more familiar with Viridian Forest, so go into the forest to look for clues. I suspect the Crybaby may have gone home, but don't go too deep. Huang'er and Fengshuang, you two search carefully around Pallet Town, and let me know immediately if you find any clues."
"Your safety is paramount. Please take care of yourselves. I don't want to lose any of you again." Finally, Kyosuke emphasized, giving each Pokémon a hug.
"Let's get started!"
Everyone dispersed and began their own search.
Kyosuke then ran to Oki's lab to look for clues, whether it was the surveillance footage or Nidoran's observation and research data, which might contain various hidden clues.
"We absolutely have to find it."
