Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day
Chapter 10 Academy Square
Dago had no choice but to give up and wait for the next opportunity to see Wizard Rosalind and then tell her about the technique.
Since it was still early, Dago continued to wander around the Aynark Wizarding Academy.
Besides the main road leading to Enark Castle, there are two other roads he hasn't yet explored.
According to what he has learned in the past two days, one option is to go to the accommodation area for the apprentices at the academy;
The other one is the Academy Square, a place specifically for selling wizarding supernatural items.
As he walked along the road, wizard stalls began to appear in front of Dago.
Then more and more stalls appeared, and more and more apprentices appeared.
Towards the end, the square of the college was almost entirely filled with all kinds of stalls.
Some of them were wandering wizards who had obtained permission from the academy to come in and sell magical materials and wizarding tools.
Some of them are rune items or potions made by the academy's instructors and apprentices themselves.
The square was bustling with people, filled with the sounds of vendors hawking their wares and haggling over prices. Among the apprentices coming and going, some were dressed smartly, while others wore tattered robes, some even patched.
"No wonder the apprentice at the gate told me to keep the magic stone bag safe."
Dago looked at the bustling square in front of him and muttered to himself.
He touched the magic stone bag on his body, and felt a little more confident.
Although it was empty inside, with only a low-level magic stone, it should be enough for him to go in and have a look around.
He didn't recognize most of the items on the stall, but that didn't stop him from gradually blending in.
Dargo has his own methods when he goes shopping.
Whenever I saw apprentices haggling at a stall, I would secretly walk up and eavesdrop...
Once you have a good understanding of what the item being negotiated is and its corresponding value, then quietly walk away.
Through this series of actions, his knowledge and experience broadened considerably.
As he was browsing, Dago suddenly stopped at a stall.
This was a small stall displaying a complete set of potion-making tools, including silver and brass crucibles, glass and crystal medicine bottles, silver daggers, mortars and pestles, and balances.
The stall owner was a middle-aged man in his forties, sitting behind his stall with a dejected look on his face.
Dago's eyes flickered, and he asked the stall owner, "What are the prices of these?"
"Take these two low-level magic stones with me."
The stall owner glanced at Dago and listlessly quoted a price.
"Are these all your personal belongings?"
"Yes, they're all for personal use. Unfortunately, I don't have much talent in potion-making, so I can only sell them at a low price."
Dago then understood why the stall owner was so dejected.
He silently calculated his purse, thought for a moment, and said, "One low-grade magic stone, and all these are just ordinary items; I'll take them all."
The stall owner rolled his eyes, waved his hand, and said irritably, "Selling it so badly? But I'll let it slide since you're an apprentice at the academy. You can take it with you."
Upon hearing this, Dago nearly emptied his wallet and handed a low-grade magic stone to the stall owner.
As he took the Dago Magic Stone, a slightly amused expression crossed his face as he asked, "Are you planning to teach yourself to be a pharmacist?"
Dago grunted in agreement, which was obvious.
I used to be just as naive as you, until reality hit me hard and I realized how cruel the world is. I hope you can carry that naivety to the end. I wish you success.
The stall owner, lost in memories, reminisced.
Dago paused for a moment, then replied, "Yes, thank you for your blessing."
He carefully placed the utensils from the stall into a large cloth bag.
..........
At the college gate, Dago walked out carrying large and small bags. It was already two or three in the afternoon.
I ate something at a small restaurant in town, paid the bill, and turned to leave.
Dago looked into his empty purse and at the two magic stone fragments he had left.
"If the plan goes smoothly, we'll have money in the future."
Dago sighed and clutched his money pouch tightly.
As the sun began to set, Dago returned to his shelter.
After checking, no signs of theft were found...
Dargo meticulously cleaned and stored away the potion-making tools, as these were the foundation of his business.
Actually, there weren't many: a silver crucible, a stone mortar and pestle, a glass mortar and pestle, a brass balance, and several glass medicine bottles about the size of a thumb.
He was preparing to study the profession of potion maker.
Although he currently lacks potion ingredients, according to the wizard Rosalyn's description, the raw materials for mental potions can all be found in the Emerald Forest.
However, due to the large-scale development of the academy and town, all the magical plants and beasts in the nearby forest were dug up and slaughtered.
We can only venture deeper into the forest, to places no one has ever set foot in.
Of course, Dago wouldn't be foolish enough to run straight into the depths of the forest to explore and hunt.
He wouldn't risk his life; everything must be based on absolute safety.
First, he couldn't give up on improving his witchcraft skills; second, he needed to find old Marico, who knew many people in the nearby forest area.
Dago shook his head, clearing his mind of distractions, and began to focus on the present, practicing witchcraft to make progress.
Then, outside the shelter, a continuous series of booming explosions and the sound of trees falling to the ground rang out again.
As dawn broke, a thin veil of mist enveloped the forest.
"Glug glug—"
The shelter door was open, and Dago stood in the open space, his breakfast cooking in a small iron pot over a fire in front of him.
The noodles were haphazardly shaved from dough, then a few seasonings were sprinkled in and stewed together.
After a satisfying meal, today's task is to go to our usual hunting spots in the forest to hunt deer.
This daily task cannot be abandoned until a new source of income is found.
Then we went to find old Marico and asked him if he knew of any traces of moonflowers near the forest.
Without further ado, Dago returned to the shelter, put on his hunting clothes and equipment, and set off on the hunt.
He skillfully navigated the forest and reached a hunting spot that was a little further away than before.
There was nothing they could do; the deer herd had already moved away from their original water source to avoid his hunting.
However, with his keen senses, he still discovered traces of the deer herd migrating. He found that as his meditation practice progressed, his perception of the environment was also gradually improving.
Following along, he discovered this group of deer who loved playing hide-and-seek, greeting each other with an air blast.
A slow-moving young deer was blasted away by an air blast, flying ten meters away and remaining motionless.
"Chi Lu is so young these days, he falls asleep at the drop of a hat," Da Ge joked.
He would only hunt one deer at a time and then stop, because he couldn't take any more with him.
After skillfully skinning and removing the meat, Dago cast Ice Crystal spell to freeze the chunks of meat.
However, instead of returning to the shelter, he planned to go to old Marico's treehouse first to deliver some venison to him and ask him where moonflowers grew in the forest.
Before long, he arrived at old Maric's treehouse, where he found him already eating black bread and drinking his morning wine in the open space below.
After exchanging pleasantries, Dago explained the purpose of his visit.
"You're quite ambitious, aren't you? Hunting and searching for moonflowers, youth is truly an advantage."
I heard that a second-level wizard apprentice living in the forest, after drinking, said that if you walk two hours along the southwest side of the forest, there is a lake where he saw a large field of glowing flowers.
Old Marico took a frozen deer leg and said...
"But Dago, let me warn you, he lost a hand there and was crippled as a result, so he moved to the forest to eke out a living. It's the territory of the Shadow Panthers, a group of ferocious and cunning magical beasts. Even I dare not go there."
Old Marico gave Dago a kind reminder.
Dago thanked old Marico for his reminder, pondered for a while, and then left, returning to the shelter.
Although they knew the whereabouts of the Moonflower, it was a place even old Marico dared not go.
With his current strength, he'd just be a sitting duck if he went. As for asking the academy for help with development, given the vampire-like behavior of that academy, he probably wouldn't even get a hair's breadth.
After thinking it over, I decided to improve my own skills first and then develop the business myself.
However, he currently lacks sufficient knowledge of witchcraft and needs to learn more.
He still has a black-covered sorcery book he hasn't studied yet, and there are some sorcery terms in it that he doesn't quite understand.
So he planned to hunt in the morning, sell his catch in town, and also go to the academy to learn witchcraft terms. In the afternoon and evening, he would practice witchcraft at home to improve his strength.
And so the decision was made happily. Dago changed into his apprentice robes and ran toward the college.
I jogged along, and the wind blowing into my wide robe felt refreshing.
He arrived at the college at ten o'clock. He first went to the teaching and research office to find his advisor, Rosalyn...
Unfortunately, her seat was empty, and it was unclear when she would finish her task.
He asked for directions the whole way before finally finding the college library, which was very quiet inside.
The only sound was the apprentice in the central seat turning the pages of a book...
I found the old man who always guards the library and asked him where the witchcraft dictionary was. He pointed to a bookshelf in a corner of the library.
Dago walked over and searched for quite a while before finding the book he wanted, which looked like it was rarely read.
He picked up the book, found an empty seat in the center of the library, and sat down. He then took out the blank black book of wizards and the wizard's dictionary and placed them on the table.
He opened the black-covered wizarding book to read, and whenever he encountered unfamiliar wizarding words, he would consult a wizarding dictionary to understand them.
Lost in the sea of knowledge, Dago was not aware of the passage of time until four o'clock in the afternoon.
The entire black-covered sorcerer's book had been annotated to the point that only a few thin pages remained, and he planned to read it all in one go.
They didn't even plan to eat lunch, combining it with dinner.
After the clock on the library wall ticked for a minute, Dago slowly put away his books, returned the wizard's dictionary, and left the library.
After leaving the academy, he had to get back to the shelter before sunset to cook dinner, as his current wealth did not allow him to eat in town.
Dragging my hungry body, I hurried to the shelter. Fortunately, it wasn't completely dark yet, so I quickly made myself a bowl of boiled noodles and started showing off.
