Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day
Chapter 21 Stronghold
"You said your family has books about magical plants. Do you have experience cultivating Moonflowers?" Dago asked her expectantly.
"Yes, moonflowers are the most common flower in our wizard manor. I used to pick them every day when I was a kid."
Serena's eyes would only gleam faintly when the topic of magical plants came up.
"Oh, really? Then how about we make a deal?"
Dago's eyes lit up, and he looked at Serena like a greedy devil.
Serena turned pale with fright, her mind flashing through all sorts of tragic endings from wizarding scripts.
"I'll provide you with a stimulant, and you help me cultivate moonflowers. How does that sound?"
Dago looked at her and said with some amusement.
"Oh, oh, can I? I've only read about how to grow moonflowers in books, I've never tried it myself."
Serena was initially incredulous, then said hesitantly.
"It's okay, as long as you're willing to try, you'll eventually grow it," Dago said nonchalantly.
"Alright then, I can try to cultivate Moonflower for Lord Dago."
"It's not for me, it's for yourself. I'm providing a paid service, dispensing psychotropic drugs."
Dago was so angry he laughed. She thought she'd help count the money even if she sold someone like that.
As he spoke, he pulled a bottle of silvery-white psychotropic drug from his cloth bag and handed it to her.
"If you don't trust me, you can use it to try and advance to the level two apprentice wizard. Consider it my angel investment."
"But, but," Serena stammered again, momentarily speechless.
Dago shoved the object into her hand: "No buts, hurry up and improve your skills. You don't want to see my investment fail, do you?"
Serena had no choice but to take it, clutching it tightly in her hand and thinking to herself, "His description of angel investing is so vivid."
Dago's expression grew serious, and he said in a deep voice, "You probably don't understand what kind of enemies our patrol team is facing."
"Only those who have actually fought against them will understand that they are a group of inhuman beasts who take pleasure in torture and killing."
Deep down, Dago didn't think the academy could hold out for long under the siege of the Darkblood Council.
A pack of wolves has entered the sheepfold. Unless Ornn is brought off the field, how can they win?
Most black-robed wizards are skilled in combat, and in terms of practical experience, they are far superior to these sheltered students from academia.
According to Dago's calculations, at his pace, he should be able to complete the entire forest patrol route in two hours.
Then, he needs to cultivate three times a day, morning, noon and evening, to ensure that the forest is not invaded by enemies. This means that his cultivation time will be greatly reduced during this period.
"There's no other way; everything is for the sake of my own safety. Only by staying alive can I ensure progress."
Dago shook his head and sighed softly to himself.
Patrols are inherently a matter of luck; no one knows what might happen at any given location. Dago still thinks it's better to do more patrols.
If he moves quickly, he should be able to squeeze out more time to cultivate.
And so the entire patrol route was completed safely and without incident.
The remaining two groups also gathered with Dago, who explained his patrol arrangements to them, and everyone said they had no objections.
Just as everyone was preparing to leave, Dagger made another suggestion: "If everyone lives separately, accidents are likely to happen, so I suggest that everyone find a fixed base and live together."
The proposal was pondered and discussed by everyone, and in the end, everyone except Viser agreed.
Viser's attitude was very firm, so there was no other way but to resolve the issue by having him not participate in the night patrols.
"It would be a great blessing to help you sewer rats, and to ask me to live with you would be tantamount to murdering me."
With that final remark, Viser strode away.
The crowd's expressions changed, and their attitude towards him became much colder.
In order to take care of the elderly Marico, the group finally decided to set up their base in Marico's treehouse.
With Dago's ice crystal spell, everyone has no worries about water. As for the bathing problem, it can be solved by building two additional bathrooms in the treehouse.
The accommodation problem was solved more easily; some pitched tents, while others built treehouses like old Marico's.
Given the productivity of witchcraft, the problem of lodging could be solved in an afternoon.
Dago returned to the shelter, looking at the little place that had been his home for half a year, feeling quite reluctant to leave.
Although it may only be a temporary relocation, who can say for sure how long this move will last?
After packing a few sets of clothes, daily necessities, and potion-making equipment, he also discovered an undeniable fact: he was very frugal, and his home was practically bare.
Before long, everyone returned to old Marico's treehouse and began busily building their temporary shelter.
Among them, Dago and Serena, along with Evan and his wife, chose to build treehouses, while Ian and Gavin opted for just two tents.
To be honest, after a whole afternoon of hard work, the outpost really looked like a proper place, with even a three-meter-high wooden fence and watchtower installed.
The main reason is that with Dargo, the destruction king, he can take down a tree with a single air blast, saving a lot of time in felling trees, all while everyone is dumbfounded.
Happy times are always short-lived; the sun disappeared amidst the laughter and cheers of the crowd.
At night, Evan and his wife were in charge of cooking. After eating their meal, I realized how miserable life Dago usually lived!
A campfire was lit, and everyone sat around it, chatting about everything from gossip about the wizards in the nearby forest to whose rooster had turned into a hen.
As the conversation went on, it eventually turned to Dago.
Ian asked Dargo curiously, "Dargo, how come you can use your meditation technique again after such a short interval?"
Dago looked at him in confusion: "What interval? I don't understand."
"So the mental fog in your mental space doesn't need replenishment from the spirit world?"
Everyone stared at him like curious children.
Dago countered with a question: "Does the mental mist need replenishing? Can't it be continuously absorbed and refined?"
Ian asked decisively, "How large is the mental space you've opened up through meditation?"
Seeing this, old Marico quickly interjected, "Anyway, it's bigger than yours, right, Dago?"
Dago understood old Maricco; it seemed that the mental spaces opened up by each wizard varied in size.
Yes, yes.
Seeing that Dago was laughing it off, Ian didn't press the matter further.
Night patrols are relatively dangerous, and there are fewer Visers, so they can only be divided into two groups for patrols in different areas.
Marico's group remained unchanged, while Dago's group included Ian and Gavin, Viser's tagalongs.
Inside the hut, Dago checked the supplies he needed to bring, then put on his Level 3 Apprentice Robe and set off with the three of them.
Dago climbed down the treehouse along the vines, and Serena, noticing the commotion, quickly rushed to meet him.
Now he has his own little followers, with Ian and Gavin close behind.
"Then let's begin," Dago said, waving his hand. The forest rangers, torches in hand, set off into the darkness.
