Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day

Chapter 25: Another Battle Against the Black Robe

The next five days passed peacefully.

Dago's three-man team tactics are becoming increasingly coordinated, with Dago as the main attacker.

Old Marico was in charge of defense and harassment, while Serena was in charge of control and treatment.

After eliminating dangers during their patrols, they would conduct tactical drills. Dago even took out his last four silver-white spirit potions and gave one to each of them.

The three of them used it to enhance their combat power, and their mental strength increased significantly.

Serena drank the potion and recently learned a family-inherited witchcraft, a healing spell that can accelerate the healing of wounds. This witchcraft is quite practical.

Dago's progress was also remarkable, with the most significant change being in his "Detection Technique".

He could even detect the approximate effects of the witchcraft that the enemy was casting.

This undoubtedly enhanced his ability to adapt to changing situations on the battlefield.

In the afternoon, in the forest, the three members of the Dago group.

Dago, using his detection ability, led the way, with the two of them standing in a triangle, each ten meters apart.

Their tests showed that this was a safe distance for three people to be relatively close together.

If one of them is ambushed, the remaining two will ensure they are not affected by the witchcraft and can quickly counterattack the enemy.

During their forest patrols, the three of them communicated not through words, but through the simplest gestures.

For example, right now, Dago raises his white hand to signal to stop moving and remain on guard.

Serena and old Marico immediately stopped and waited for Dago's next instructions.

"Shhh—"

Dago heard the sound of twigs and grass rubbing together.

He turned and used his detection spell to look at the source of the noise, carefully observing the fluctuations in energy particles, preparing to enter battle at any moment.

In the distance, a black-robed wizard was seen angrily pulling at the tangled vines, looking very displeased.

"Damn it, where are those damned forest rats hiding? How dare they make this wizard suffer like this, they must be killed!"

The black-robed wizard cursed loudly at certain people, speaking in a fit of rage.

Although Dago was a little nervous when he heard this, he wasn't particularly afraid; he was more composed.

He glanced at the two people behind him, raised his hand and made a gun gesture, pointing it in the direction of the black-robed wizard.

Instantly, spiritual energy began to emanate from the eyes of the three, and they whispered to each other, preparing to unleash their respective spells.

Energy particles began to emerge and move, and the oppressive atmosphere began to affect the surrounding air.

The black-robed wizard stopped complaining; he sensed the low pressure in the air and the approaching danger.

However, it was too late.

Old Maric was the first to release a soft, bright sphere of light, which flew to within a meter of the black-robed man's eyes before suddenly bursting forth with ten times the light.

The black-robed wizard's eyes were instantly filled with white light. He instinctively covered his eyes and tried to run away.

However, his legs were bound in place as if they were coiled around a python.

Serena was casting her vine spell, which was tightly binding the black-robed wizard from the ground up.

"Ugh—" The roar that was squeezed out of his throat was suddenly stopped halfway, because the deep blue energy ball condensed by Dago's Ice Crystal Spell had slammed heavily into the black-robed wizard's heart.

The ice patterns spread across his entire body at a visible speed, and even the fluttering hem of his robe froze into a stiff arc in mid-air.

The cold air froze his contorted, pained face, and a layer of frost covered his eyeballs...

The last thing reflected in his pupils was the ever-expanding, dark blue icy ball on his chest.

The black-robed wizard, frozen like an ice sculpture, remained standing, the ice ball on his chest slowly disappearing...

His blood was frozen into magnificent red ice flowers, which, when refracted by sunlight, were more dazzling than any magical gemstone.

After searching around and finding no companions, Dago signaled to his teammates that they could go forward and loot the spoils.

They collected six low-level magic stones and one purple spirit potion, and then the three quickly left the scene.

After winding their way through the mountains, they finally returned to their treehouse base just as the sun was about to set, and the three of them breathed a sigh of relief.

This is Serena's first murder. To help her overcome her trauma, old Marico personally cooks his best roast meat today.

The three sat around the campfire, enjoying the fragrant roasted meat and chatting casually...

The main purpose was to listen to old Marico recount his wartime experiences in his youth, in order to enlighten Serena.

"There have been more and more sightings of black-robed wizards lately," Dago said worriedly.

"What I fear most is that the front lines of the academy are suffering increasingly setbacks, leading to more and more black-robed figures breaking into the forest area."

Old Marico also showed a worried expression as he spoke.

Serena remained silent with her head down, only her body curled up even more like a little dumpling.

Over the next three days of patrolling, they were as careful and cautious as real forest mice.

On the afternoon of the fourth day, Dago led his two wizard tactical squads on a routine patrol in the forest.

However, they were not so lucky today, as they encountered a group of two black-robed wizards in the forest.

It was once again Dago's team that launched the first attack, his detection skills acting like radar, giving him the advantage of striking first.

Dago initiated the attack by unleashing his ultimate Ice Crystal Cannon, followed by Maric's Flashball and Serena's Vine Technique—a classic tactical combination.

Unfortunately, the other side was no pushover either; one of them was actually a late-stage level three wizard apprentice, just like Moloch from last time.

Dago's ice crystal cannon was so powerful and imposing that even after the two men in black robes released two defensive spells at the same time, one of them was still blasted away and fell to the ground groaning in pain.

The other black-robed wizard, disregarding the fate of his teammate, rushed directly towards Dago.

Dago gritted his teeth, looked at the two men, and said, "You two run first, I'll distract this black-robed wizard."

Without waiting for their reply, he went straight towards the black-robed wizard who was running and chanting spells.

He fired an air blast along the way, which was intercepted by the black-robed wizard's protective shield, but successfully attracted his attention.

The two then disappeared into the forest. Old Maric and Serena, realizing what had happened, didn't run away...

Instead, he planned to execute the other black-robed wizard who was lying on the ground before going to support Dago.

And so, a fierce chase between wizards unfolded in the forest.

......

A dozen minutes later, in the forest, Serena was helping old Marico stagger along.

"Don't worry about me, go and support Dago first."

Old Marico suddenly spoke, coughing violently, his gray robe stained with bloodstains on the sleeves.

"I didn't expect that the severely injured black-robed wizard would still have the ability to fight back. I was careless."

Old Marico was pale and bloodless, and spoke weakly.

Serena bit her lip and remained silent as she cast a healing spell to heal old Marico's wounds.

"I'm too old, I can't do it anymore."

He sighed deeply, shaking his head helplessly as Serena helped him continue the healing process.

The two of them trudged quickly through the forest, their steps uneven, passing fallen trees, towering icicles, and deep, smoking pits, a testament to the intense magical clash between Dago and the black-robed wizard.

The black-robed wizards who fought their way through the intrigue and bloodshed of the Dark Crystal Plateau are far superior to the wizards who live a life of ease in the academy.

Even if the wizards in the academy are one or two minor realms higher in terms of cultivation level, they are often killed in life-or-death battles.

In the wizarding wars that old Maric had experienced in his youth, he had seen far too many similar examples.

As they continued onward, the smoke and frost intertwined eerily in the forest.

Not far away, half a bone staff was stuck diagonally in a charred hole in the trunk of an oak tree. The skull gem on the staff head was cracked into a spider web, and the remaining shadow energy was being slowly devoured by the surrounding ice shards, making a hissing melting sound.

On the ground, countless ice spikes broke through the soil from the pile of decaying leaves.

Some of the ice spikes still had bits of black robe fabric stuck to their tips, swaying slightly in the cold wind like funeral banners hanging from branches.

A few ancient trees that were lucky enough to escape the brunt of the attack leaned to one side, their trunks bearing both charred holes from the shadows and transparent punctures from icicles.

Not far away, the corpse of a black-robed wizard was embedded in the ice wall in a twisted position.

The black robes were frozen solid, the exposed skin at the torn points covered in bluish-purple ice patterns...

The finger bones dug futilely into the ice, leaving five deep scratches on the transparent surface.

Dago stood not far away, one of his arms already covered with a layer of ferocious ice armor.

Two completely different elemental energies, one black and one white, left winding and intertwined patterns on the ice armor, like two venomous snakes entwined to death.
