Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day
Chapter 411 The Rumors of Hyotei
Dargo listened patiently to Avery's ramblings. Putting aside his identity as a third-ring wizard, Avery was also an old man in his twilight years.
Her entire family had vanished, leaving her all alone in the world. She could only find solace in her past memories, and she desperately needed this emotional release.
As Avery calmed down, Dago finally revealed the purpose of his trip.
"I've come to say goodbye, Grandpa Avery. Soon, I may be leaving the South for the 'Omnipotent Ring' in the Central region."
"I know."
Avery didn't seem surprised by Dago's words, and instead nodded in agreement, saying, "The South is indeed too small for you; you should go and see more distant places."
He thought for a moment, then flipped his hand and took out an exquisite silver box from his spatial ring, handing it to Dago.
Dago opened it and saw a black obsidian ring, a notebook with a brown cover, and a beautifully designed ice flower brooch inside the silver box.
A quick mental scan revealed that the ring was a new storage ring, with an internal space roughly five times larger than the one Dago was currently using. It contained a large number of high-level magic stones and some rune stones.
The notes represent some of Avery's new findings from his bloodline transplant experiments over the past few years, while the final ice flower brooch is really just an ordinary brooch.
It's clear that Avery had prepared this in advance.
"I'm sorry, Dago, this is all I can give you."
In Avery's eyes, Dago saw the guilt and fear that belonged to an old man, as if he was afraid that Avery would be dissatisfied with him.
"I left the family too early, and I never had a share in the legacy of the Winter Star School. If any members of the Huntington family are still alive, this brooch can prove your identity."
"It's alright, you've given me more than enough."
Dago took Avery's hand and whispered words of comfort.
The lack of succession in the Huntington family's Winter Star lineage was somewhat expected by Dargo.
He didn't feel any regret about this. The [Winter Star] spell was no longer the strongest in his current spell system. After advancing to the Miracle stage, he could obtain ice spells of level four and above from other sources.
The "Omnipotent Ring" is known as the encyclopedia of spells in the wizarding world, so it's likely that some general-purpose spells can be found there.
"Oh, right, Grandpa Avery, there's one more thing."
Putting away the silver box Avery had given him, Dago pulled open the collar of his robe, revealing his smooth, strong collarbone to the other man.
Avery squinted, then quickly realized what he meant.
"Ice Ring? You've lost the necklace I gave you?!"
"No."
Dago shook his head. "It broke apart on its own and then melted into my body."
Dago briefly recounted to Avery how the Ice Ring Necklace broke. Avery was stunned, and then his tone suddenly became urgent.
"You've unlocked the secret of the Ice Ring?! No, it chose you? Unbelievable!"
Avery stood up and paced back and forth quickly by the fireplace, looking even more excited than when he learned that Dargo was already a peak third-ring wizard. He kept muttering something incoherently.
What secrets are hidden within the Ice Ring?
When Dago saw Avery looking like this for the first time, he couldn't help but ask.
Avery gradually calmed down, and finally walked up to Dago, looking at him with an incredibly strange gaze, and said, "The Ice Emperor! The legacy of the Ice Emperor Chagus Connor, legend has it that the Ice Ring is the key to unlocking this legacy!"
"Hyotei Chaguscona".
Dago repeated the name Avery had mentioned, a thoughtful look on his face, and murmured, "The whale eater?"
"right."
Avery nodded. "In the old language, it means whale eater."
The Ice Emperor Chagus Connor is hailed as the greatest ice magic wizard in history; his power is enough to freeze the sun!
He once established an eternal frost empire on the frozen land, and even led those with the bloodline of ice to conquer other worlds.
"Another world?"
Dargo's expression shifted slightly. "You mean Central and Lower Ring Continent?"
"I don't know"
Avery shook his head. "It's just a legend circulating in the far north. There are too many hymns about the Ice Emperor, and there are all kinds of versions. No one can trace the truth of it. But one thing is beyond doubt: the Ice Emperor was a person who truly stood at the top of the wizarding pyramid. He should have already crossed the threshold of miracles."
"hiss"
Dago took a deep breath and gently stroked the spot on his skin where he had once worn the Ice Ring. He could clearly feel the mark of the Ice Ring within his soul.
This mark had helped him survive Moriel's fire of rebirth, and he guessed it was extraordinary, but he never imagined its origins would be so profound.
"So what should I do?"
Dago calmed himself down and looked at Avery, who only gave him a helpless expression.
"I don't know either. Only a very few people know the secret of the Ice Ring. The people of the Ice Prison Palace have been studying it for a long time, but they still haven't been able to crack it."
So I said it chose you, just wait patiently.
Avery gently patted Dago's cheek and said kindly, "It will guide you to the next step sooner or later."
Dago nodded and said nothing more.
When do you plan to leave?
Avery asked him.
"It will take some more time."
"Then stay a few more days and keep this old man company."
Avery sighed softly, looking somewhat downcast. "I wonder when we'll meet again."
"OK."
Suddenly remembering something, Dago thought for a moment and said, "There's one more thing I need your help with, Grandpa Avery."
-----------
Amidst the vast snow-covered mountains and forests, a gigantic ice and snow tornado, resembling an ancient, snow-white serpent, roared and raged beneath the hazy sky.
Suddenly, a bright blue light shone through the ice and snow tornado, making the originally snow-white tornado appear much more translucent and dazzling.
The wind and snow suddenly intensified, large swaths of dark clouds rolled in from the sky, and faint, deep blue lightning flashed down.
At this moment, the center of the enormous ice and snow tornado was a tranquil and dreamlike scene.
Dago stood at the eye of the frost hurricane, his entire body intertwined with countless magical auras.
He raised his hands, his fingers interlocked in a loose fist, and in the center, a deep blue ice ball several meters in diameter was quietly suspended.
All the chilling and terrifying aura emanated from this ice ball, and the void around it took on a strange crystalline appearance, as if it had been frozen solid by something.
