Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey
Chapter 58 Preparing to Time Travel Again
Chapter 57 Preparing to Time Travel Again
When the Mercedes-Benz S600, covered in shocking scratches and stained with indelible black blood, drove into the old residential area where Lu Mingfei rented a place, it was already dawn, and the time was four in the morning.
The torrential rain had subsided into a light drizzle, and early-rising sanitation workers and a few scattered vehicles began to appear on the streets, as if nothing had happened.
The vehicle came to a stop, and a hissing sound came from under the hood as the engine overheated.
Ah Bin still gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, his whole body trembling uncontrollably as if he had just been pulled out of the water, soaked in cold sweat and rain.
His eyes were vacant, clearly still unable to recover from extreme fear.
Lu Mingfei took a deep breath and forced himself to push open the car door, suppressing his exhaustion.
He then tucked the Smith & Wesson M10 revolver back into his waistband and carefully covered it with the hem of his jacket.
"It's alright now. Don't tell anyone about what happened today, including Boss Yang. Go back and get a good night's sleep, and try to forget what happened before," Lu Mingfei said to Abin, who was still shaken in the driver's seat.
He then looked at the Mercedes S600, which was now covered in scratches, with broken windows and an interior ravaged by rain, mud, and Deadpool's eerie black blood.
"As for this car—just tell Boss Yang that I broke it, and I'll find a way to compensate him." Lu Mingfei rubbed his throbbing temples, feeling a bit of a headache.
I originally went to work at the Golden Banquet to save money to find Nuonuo, but I didn't earn much money and now I'm in trouble with a large car repair bill.
Upon hearing this, Ah Bin turned his head sharply, his lips trembling, "Brother Lu, this—this won't do! I'm the one who caused this damage to the car, how can I let you—"
"Do as I say." Lu Mingfei patted Abin on the shoulder, and could feel the stiffness in the other's muscles.
"Go back, take a hot shower, don't think about anything, and get some rest."
Looking at Lu Mingfei's eyes, which had returned to their dark brown color, Abin felt a mix of emotions: relief at surviving a disaster, gratitude for Lu Mingfei taking responsibility, and a deep fear of the unknown.
He opened his mouth, but in the end he just nodded heavily: "Thank you, Brother Lu, I—I understand."
Watching Ah Bin drive away in his battered Mercedes and disappear into the morning mist, Lu Mingfei finally let out a long sigh of relief.
He turned and walked into the stairwell, his steps slightly heavy.
Back in that simple rented room, Lu Mingfei locked the door, leaned against the cold door panel, and slowly slid down to sit on the floor. He then began to check his injuries.
His fist was injured when he smashed the glass, but he was most concerned about the injury to his palm.
There was a clear teeth mark on his palm, with an ominous bluish-black edge.
"Could this be an infection? — I should go to the hospital tomorrow." Lu Mingfei frowned as he looked at the teeth mark. Sure enough, using power beyond reason could not be without consequences.
He forced himself to stand up, found the first-aid kit, and simply treated his wound with alcohol and gauze before changing his clothes.
However, what he couldn't understand the most was why Deadpool was targeting him. He had been working and studying diligently lately, without causing any trouble or getting into fights.
And why would such a large group of Deadpools exist in this seaside town?
He didn't know if what had happened before would happen again, and if it did, he would have no choice but to leave the city.
"Perhaps it's time to go find Nuonuo no matter what—" Lu Mingfei thought as he lay on his bed.
He probably can't stay at the glittering banquet anymore. After all, he really can't afford the car repairs, and he's being targeted by dangerous guys. Going abroad seems to be his only way out now.
Lu Mingfei decided that after taking a nap, he would inquire about going abroad and get his visa as soon as possible.
The remaining issue concerns Ah Bin. He has already planned to run away, so naturally he needs to clean up the mess and not drag Ah Bin down with him.
Lu Mingfei had a strong premonition that those Deadpools were after him, and that Abin was just an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. He figured that as long as Abin didn't have any further contact with him, he should be fine.
As for the car, he'll go to Boss Yang and take all the responsibility. Out of respect for him, Boss Yang probably won't make things difficult for Ah Bin. He'll see if he can find any good jobs in Chicago later, and then he can pay back the car repair costs.
It will take several days to process the visa. I'll use these days to teach Ah Bin some self-defense techniques. This is the last thing I can do for him before I leave.
As for Ah Bin's psychological problems, there's not much he can do, since he himself hasn't recovered from his own mental illness.
Lost in his thoughts, the extreme mental tension and physical exhaustion finally overwhelmed everything, and he actually fell asleep.
He was exhausted. The intense battle and the life-or-death struggle last night had drained him of a lot of energy and strength.
But sleep did not bring peace.
The blood-stained faces of the long-absent souls from the Andes Mountains reappeared in his dreams.
In Kassel, at 2 p.m., student council president César Gattuso stood in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window of the Norton Building’s top-floor conference room, his back to the student council officers sitting upright at the oval table behind him, listening to their reports one by one.
"Report to the president! We have once again achieved an overwhelming victory in Freedom Day! The full-year usage rights of Norton Hall still belong to our student council! We have already contacted a new renovation team, and they will soon be carrying out a complete renovation and decoration of Norton Hall to make it worthy of the student council's glory!" A senior fourth-year student council member stood up excitedly and shouted.
This was the second time they had won a day of freedom under Caesar's leadership, and only those who had been in Kassel for many years could understand how incredible this was.
The Lionheart Society, a long-established club, has a deep-rooted history. Most of its members are ascetic monks who only know how to bury themselves in improving their skills. Since the founding of Kassel College a hundred years ago, the student council has almost always been firmly suppressed by it.
But since Caesar enrolled and integrated the student council, they have finally begun to turn the tide thanks to his strong personal charisma and outstanding leadership!
"We have also compiled detailed information on all the new students this year," a recruitment officer reported immediately, his tone equally enthusiastic.
"We have already sent invitations to several of the top-ranked freshmen by bloodline, and we believe that after witnessing our outstanding performance and strength during Freedom Day, they will make a wise choice to join us!"
"It's a bit of a pity that two female freshmen with an A rating, Susie and Chen Motong, seem to have left school recently to handle personal matters and couldn't witness our glory during Freedom Day. However, we learned that they have returned to campus today, and their invitations have been sent out as well," another officer added, his tone slightly regretful.
"There's one more thing I need to report to you about. It's about a freshman, Chu Zihang. Just yesterday, he underwent a bloodline depth assessment by Professor Manstein and was initially rated as a Super A grade!" Another student council member stood up, but his expression was very solemn.
"According to witnesses, his golden eyes remain lit even when he is not in combat, and seem to never go out. The president of the Lionheart Society has personally invited him to join the Lionheart Society, and he has agreed."
Upon hearing the "Super A-grade" bloodline rating, some of the student council members who were initially excited suddenly fell silent. After all, the Kassel campus was a place with a very strict hierarchy; if your bloodline was high, you were awesome. But soon they couldn't help but start whispering among themselves.
"A super A-grade bloodline? Really?"
"Unextinguishable golden eyes? This—how is this possible?"
"I heard that guy named Chu Zihang has already joined the Execution Bureau's mission—"
"How is that possible?! He's just a first-year student—"
"Is this what Super A-grade is?"
The student council members were talking amongst themselves, and some of them looked worried.
Caesar Gattuso stood in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows of the Norton Hall conference room, his back to the murmuring student council officers, the sunlight outlining a dazzling halo around his golden hair.
He listened quietly to the report of the day's victory for freedom, his face showing little joy, as if it were all perfectly natural.
It wasn't until he heard the name Chu Zihang, along with keywords like "super A-grade bloodline," "unextinguishable golden eyes," and "joining the Lionheart Society," that a faint flicker of emotion crossed his icy blue eyes. At the same time, the worried discussions in the conference room made him frown slightly.
He slowly turned around, his gaze calmly sweeping over every cadre present. There was no deliberate pressure, but his innate aristocratic air and leader's aura instantly silenced the noisy conference room, and all eyes involuntarily focused on him.
"So, are you afraid?" Caesar's voice remained calm, looking down at the student council officers with a condescending gaze.
The crowd fell silent, no one dared to answer, and some even lowered their heads instinctively.
"One super A-grade freshman has made you lose the spirit you had just won a day ago?" Caesar's lips curled into a slightly mocking smile.
"The Lionheart has gained a genius, which is excellent. This means that our future victories will be even more valuable. What's the fun in defeating the weak? Only by trampling the truly strong underfoot can we prove who the true leader of Kassel is."
His words were like a shot of adrenaline to everyone present.
Yes, they have Caesar! The heir of the Gattuso family, the emperor of the student council, who also possesses top-tier A-grade bloodline and unparalleled leadership and strength!
"Chu Zihang—I've remembered him. Tell all members not to panic or deliberately provoke him. The strength of the student council does not lie in the bloodline or rank of any one person, but in our collective strength, our discipline, our resources, and our indomitable will."
He looked at the cadre who had previously reported on Chu Zihang's situation and said, "Continue to monitor his movements. I need to know everything about him."
"Yes, Chairman!" the cadre immediately straightened his back and answered loudly.
"Then, the meeting is adjourned." Caesar waved his hand.
The cadres bowed respectfully and then left the meeting room in an orderly manner.
Soon, Caesar was the only one left in the huge conference room. He walked back to the window and looked at the bustling students in the square below, many of whom were freshmen who had just joined the student council and whose faces were still full of excitement and anticipation.
Chu Zihang's appearance undoubtedly disrupted the somewhat boring campus atmosphere he had been experiencing, but he didn't care too much about it. He was confident that he could beat Chu Zihang.
What really bothered him was that his family had been talking to him about the engagement, which made him miss his mother, the only person in the world who had ever given him warmth.
Soon Caesar arrived at the Norton Hall's parking garage and stood in front of a silver Harley-Davidson. He didn't actually like motorcycles that much, but he liked Harleys and only rode Harleys.
Because his mother once said that he looked like a cowboy when he rode a Harley, free and brave.
Caesar straddled the gleaming silver Harley-Davidson, and soon the deep roar of the Harley echoed through the underground parking lot of the Norton Building, like the suppressed howl of a wild beast.
free----
This word was such a luxury for him.
The Gattuso surname brought him not only immense wealth and power, but also heavy shackles and omnipresent control.
From the moment he was born, his life trajectory seemed to have been planned by the family's elders, and every step had to conform to his status as Gattuso's heir, including his marriage.
A cold look of disgust flashed in Caesar's eyes as he thought of the bride his family had chosen for him, whom he had never even met.
Why should his life and his future be decided by those old fogies?
The Harley's engine roared even more furiously, as if sensing its owner's inner turmoil. He twisted the throttle, and the Harley shot out of the parking lot like an arrow, heading towards the winding mountain road behind Kassel College.
He needed speed, the feeling of the wind whistling past his ears, and this extreme experience of walking on the edge of control to temporarily numb his troubled thoughts.
The mountain road was rugged, but Caesar's driving skills were superb. Under his control, the Harley seemed to come alive, nimbly gliding through every bend.
The dense forest rushed past on both sides of my line of sight, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the branches and leaves, casting dappled shadows.
At this moment, he was not the student council president, nor Gattuso's successor; he was simply Caesar, a rider trying to find a moment of peace and freedom in the wind.
His mother's face was somewhat blurred in his memory, but that brief, unconditional warmth was etched into his heart like a brand.
That was the only genuine comfort he had ever felt in this cold and calculating family and world.
"Free and brave—" he repeated his mother's words in a low voice.
Is he truly free? Can he really—still be as fearless and courageous as his mother hopes?
