Lin Che ignored them. He looked at the Dragon Group member.

The Dragon Group members forgot to put down their guns. He stared intently at Su Hongyi. He felt a chill creep through his body. He even felt his body was somewhat out of his control.

Lin Che pushed the shopping cart toward the checkout counter. Su Hongyi stood beside him, her red umbrella open.

The cashier's face was blank. She stared at Lin Che, then at Su Hongyi.

Lin Che placed the items on the cashier's counter.

"Check, please." Lin Che said.

The cashier flinched, then snapped back to reality. With trembling hands, she scanned the items for Lin Che.

"Sir... these... these are free." The cashier's voice was trembling with tears.

Lin Che glanced at her. He knew what the cashier was afraid of.

"No need," Lin Che said. He took out his ID card.

The cashier took the ID card and swiped it. She then entered some data.

"A total of... 23 points," the cashier said. She looked at Lin Che, then glanced at Su Hongyi.

Lin Che's ID card has 100 points. These are the points the government gives to every civilian who has just received an ID card.

Nowadays, people no longer work for wages, but for points. They either earn points by completing tasks assigned by the government or by going to work every day.

Lin Che paid the bill, then pushed the shopping cart and, with Su Hongyi in tow, walked towards the supermarket entrance.

As they passed the scarred man, he was still screaming on the ground. The rotten-faced demon had left his body and was now kneeling before Su Hongyi.

"Keep your dog under control." Lin Che walked to the scarred man's side, his voice low.

The scarred man shuddered and made a whimpering sound. He looked up at Lin Che, then at the mangled-faced ghost. His eyes were filled with despair.

The grotesque demon kowtowed to Su Hongyi again. It raised a hand and pointed at the scarred man on the ground.

Su Hongyi's thoughts arrived: "Husband, it's asking if we should kill him."

Lin Che shook his head.

The scarred man shuddered upon hearing the voice of the man with the rotten face. He immediately scrambled to his feet and, with all his might, tumbled and crawled away. Skin continued to peel off his face.

The other robbers, seeing the scarred man run away, abandoned their knives and fled the supermarket in a panic.

Lin Che pushed the shopping cart out of the supermarket.

The Dragon Group member stood at the doorway, his body taut, like a statue. He watched Lin Che and Su Hongyi leave, his eyes unblinking.

He only breathed a sigh of relief after Lin Che and the others disappeared into the gray fog.

He glanced back into the supermarket; the scarred man's screams were still echoing.

"You call this a companion ghost?" a member of the Dragon Group muttered to himself.

Lin Che pushed his bike, walking home. The gray fog over Jiangcheng was still thick.

[Ding! Your wife's mood level +10!]

[Ding! Your wife has provided you with a trace of pure ghostly energy, increasing your 'Supreme Ghost Body' experience points by 120!]

Lin Che looked at Su Hongyi beside him. She was holding a red umbrella and walking quietly.

"Honey, you did a great job just now," Lin Che said.

Su Hongyi's figure drew slightly closer.

"My husband's happiness is my happiness," she thought to herself.

Lin Che smiled. He felt a warmth in his heart.

On his way home, he passed by those low-level eerie creatures hiding again.

This time, those strange creatures shrank even more violently. As if they had encountered a natural enemy, they vanished into thin air.

Lin Che pushed the shopping cart back home. He put the supplies away.

"Honey, let's make hot pot," Lin Che said.

He took vegetables and meat out of the shopping cart. It wasn't much, but it was enough for them to eat.

Su Hongyi's figure became more focused. She walked to the kitchen doorway.

[My husband is cooking, and I'm watching.] Her thoughts came to her.

Lin Che began preparing the hot pot ingredients. He chopped meat and washed vegetables. Su Hongyi stood at the kitchen doorway, quietly watching him.

The little bit of food I bought from the supermarket was only enough for one or two meals.

This cannot continue indefinitely.

In this bizarre new world, points are everything. Food, water, shelter, and even safety all require points to obtain.

He glanced at his identity card; only 77 initial points remained.

With this amount of money, you can't even afford a decent hot pot meal.

"Honey, we can't survive on government assistance alone. I need to find a way to make some money," Lin Che said to Su Hongyi beside him.

Su Hongyi's figure appeared; she was wearing a simple red dress, holding a red umbrella, and quietly watching him.

[Whatever my husband does, I'll be there for him.] Her thoughts were very direct.

Lin Che picked up his phone and opened the public channel within the safe zone. A bold announcement was pinned to the top of the screen.

The Paranormal Bureau of the Seventh Security Zone in Jiangcheng is now publicly recruiting civilian ghost exorcists. Those who pass the test will receive certification from the Paranormal Bureau and a generous points stipend. Registration location: Building 3, District Administrative Center.

Lin Che's gaze lingered on the words "generous points allowance".

This is the opportunity.

"Honey, let's go out after we finish eating." Lin Che put away his phone and took his ID card.

He needs a legitimate identity and a stable source of points. Recruiting through the Paranormal Bureau is currently the best option.

……

The No. 3 building of the district administrative center was bustling with activity.

The hall was packed with people from all walks of life. There were homeless people dressed in rags, their faces full of hope; there were middle-aged men in suits who looked like former elites; and there were also some ruthless characters with fierce looks and a bloody aura.

They all came because of the recruitment notice from the Paranormal Bureau.

A cordon was set up in the center of the hall, inside which was the testing area. Several uniformed paranormal bureau staff members were maintaining order.

"Line up! One at a time! Don't push!" a staff member shouted through a megaphone.

Lin Che, with Su Hongyi by his side, stood at the end of the line. Su Hongyi's appearance was like a drop of cold water falling into a hot oil pan.

The surrounding noise subsided somewhat.

Countless gazes focused on her. A mixture of emotions—amazement, greed, and jealousy—were present.

[Ding! Your wife's emotional stability has decreased by 5! She is unhappy about being spied on by those around her.]

Lin Che reached out and grasped Su Hongyi's cold fingers.

"Ignore them," he whispered.

Su Hongyi moved a little closer to him. Only then did her displeasure subside slightly.

"Oh, isn't this Young Master Wang? You're here for the test too?"

A fawning voice came from the front of the group.

The crowd parted to make way. A young man dressed in designer clothes swaggered over, surrounded by a group of people. He held his chin high, his face full of arrogance.

"I'm just going through the motions with this test," the young man called Young Master Wang said dismissively. He snapped his fingers.
