After I died, my personal maid rebelled.
Chapter 228 Decapitation Operation
The army formation was on the verge of collapse, and countless tactical squads, like bullets from a shotgun, pierced the outer flesh of the Imperial Guards.
In large-scale battles during the era of cold weapons, soldiers were disoriented amidst the vast sea of people. Compared to the Northern Army's free-fighting and tacit cooperation, the Imperial Guards were plunged into immense chaos.
If you're lucky, you might find your commander nearby; if you're unlucky, even fleeing in disarray won't keep up with the Northern Army's pursuit.
Even more frightening is that the Knights have been mobilized.
A scorching battlefield, scorching blood.
With the path to attack clear in front of them, this torrent of steel charged along the breach and quickly reached the hollow area in the center of the battlefield.
The generals of the Imperial Guards decisively abandoned their rear to save their own lives. The central army immediately retreated and formed ranks, ceasing to send troops to the vanguard. After a brief period of panic, layers of steel shield walls were erected, only to be completely destroyed in a flash of red light.
The torrent crashed against the loose embankment, and the whistling spears overturned everything in sight, killing thousands in a single charge.
Barely managing to halt the knights' advance with their tight battle formation, the battlefield, now locked in a stalemate, grew increasingly bloody and chaotic.
At this point, both sides were fully engaged in the battle.
Paul, his speed slowed as he swiftly swung his red blade, continued to advance steadily on horseback, surrounded by a dense swarm of enemies. He led his knights, hacking and slashing to create a path, severing heads one by one.
Federico, who was fighting wildly in the chaos, pulled a young soldier from the 4th Regiment out of the encirclement. The young man was thin and, although skilled in tactical maneuvers, he was clearly inexperienced in combat. In fact, he rushed to Federico's side in order to chase after an enemy.
Federico wiped the human debris off his face, grabbed the young soldier with a hint of helplessness, and shook him violently twice.
What level is he at? What level is a recruit at? He's a man who stood up even after being whipped three times by the Duke.
Not just anyone can be on the front lines.
The recruit's eyes gradually cleared, and Federico gestured for him to follow him. They needed to regroup after resting and continue their attack.
Crouching low to dodge the swarms of arrows raining down from the sky, the new recruits followed Federico's example, mimicking his sleazy movements. Federico would always manage to easily pin down a guard and then smash his head with a single punch.
The two traveled through the enemy lines and returned to their own army camp without any major incidents.
Federico strode over to Lisa, who was leaning against a dead horse with a shield above her head, and asked with slight surprise after looking around.
"Lisa, have you seen my heavily armored soldiers?"
Lisa, who was slumped on the ground recovering her magic power and chewing on dried meat, frowned. "Heavy armor soldiers? Weren't they summoned away by Lady Elene?"
"An attack is underway ahead. The enemy has dispatched an elite force to flank us from the right. Lady Elene has led the heavy infantry to meet them."
Lisa tossed her water bottle to Federico, whose head was spinning. He gulped down a large mouthful of water and then casually handed the bottle to the recruit.
"How can these damned Imperial Guards have managed to hold out for so long?"
Federico pulled out a simple map drawn in blood from his waist, squatted down, spread it out, and poked a certain point on it forcefully.
"I've located the command post on the other side. We must assemble an elite squad and, before they relocate, rush in and destroy their command center."
Upon hearing this, Lisa shook her head vigorously. It wasn't that she didn't believe in Federico's abilities, but rather that the Northern Army was currently in such a predicament that it simply couldn't spare an elite force.
She held up her shield and looked at the map. "The strongest troops are all on the front line. The enemy's vanguard is beyond saving. As long as Paul's men can break through the central army, we can immediately launch a pursuit to annihilate them."
For Lisa, the enemy's defeat was only a matter of time. Now that Paul and the Knights had been chosen as the main offensive force, all they had to do was suppress the dying Central Army.
The elite troops of the Northern Army are also valuable. While reducing losses, they can also continuously bleed the enemy dry. Why not do it?
As for the surprise attack, Lisa, who was feeling somewhat exhausted, had no interest in it.
"If you want to go, Count Rondo has a reserve force. I can support you with two bombardment spells after you launch your attack."
Federico stared at Lisa, almost forgetting that there was a mage here who could launch attacks from a distance... then what need was there for an elite squad?
"Bombardment spells are unnecessary, but piercing spells are acceptable."
Federico grabbed Lisa, shield and all, and quickly assembled his decapitation squad. A bewildered recruit, a bewildered Lisa, and a confident Federico.
The three will penetrate deep into enemy territory, reach the rear of the Knights, and then quickly storm the designated position to set off a spectacular fireworks display for the enemy command post.
Lisa sighed heavily, wishing she had gone to Rondo's place to rest.
After realizing the heavy responsibility he was entrusted with, the new recruit nodded vigorously, his expression already showing a willingness to die for his country.
"By the way, what's your name?" Federico asked the recruit.
The recruit hesitated for a moment, then honestly replied, "I don't have a name."
"Since we're on the battlefield, we should give ourselves a name. Don't be like Luna's personal guards, who don't use names to claim credit."
Federico was very satisfied with the new recruits in front of him. They were clearly well-trained, capable, and courageous.
Not just anyone dares to charge into enemy territory alone. Seriously...
"I don't need credit; I just want to repay the young lady's kindness," the recruit said while cleaning his gun.
If it were anyone else, Federico might have scoffed and called them a bootlicker, saying, "You've only met the young lady, so you have to repay a debt of gratitude?"
But the recruit's clear eyes reminded Federico of his past self, a time when he too had devoted himself wholeheartedly to the Duke.
It's not that he's disloyal now, but rather that he can only go further and have a brighter future. Compared to a common soldier, he can better serve the Duke by commanding thousands of troops.
"Okay, let's go."
Federico, with his hastily assembled combat squad, returned the way he came and plunged into the vast battlefield.
"Even before the war began, I had been searching for messengers from the Central Army. Only by peeling back the layers of messengers' movements could we find the enemy's core weakness."
Stepping into the pool of blood, Federico gently pushed aside the spears stuck in the corpses and waved for the two men to follow him.
More than a general, Federico at this moment was like an extremely patient hunter; he didn't need to look at a map, yet he could always find the safest route.
He linked together the combat squads scattered among the enemy lines, and following the deadly path cleared by these combat squads, they attracted almost no attention from the enemy.
Even if the Imperial Guards rushed in in a panic, he would wield his giant axe and quickly resolve the crisis.
"I've been thinking about how to make the enemy pay the heaviest price, and how to wash away the shame we suffered in Green Canyon."
"We have always fought for humanity and for the stability of the kingdom, but the royal city has deceived us and plotted countless schemes and conspiracies..."
"Recruit, to the left!"
Squeezed in the chaotic crowd, the soldiers from both sides engaged in fierce fighting again. Federico lunged forward and dislocated the arm of a centurion of the Imperial Guard. As he dodged the sharp blade, he turned and cleaved the centurion's head in two with an axe.
He roared as he looked up, and the new recruit protecting Lisa behind him suddenly thrust his spear back, parried a large sword with great effort, and then quickly lunged forward to deliver the spear, accurately piercing the heart of a royal guard.
Federico smiled. "Well done, a beautiful counterattack."
