Full-Time Wizard: Starting with Harvesting Wheat
Chapter 51 Lotter
The knight removed his helmet, revealing brown hair cascading down his shoulders like a waterfall. His face was handsome and upright, with arched eyebrows and sharp, eagle-like eyes. The majesty he exuded was even greater than that of a lion.
The mayor squinted and scrutinized the knight for a long time, becoming increasingly certain that he had never seen him before. Yet the aura that the man unintentionally exuded was several times stronger than that of the Perland mercenaries who had spent years licking blood off the edge of a knife.
He guessed that this man was a nobleman, so he invited him and treated him with great humility. Now, examining him up close, he saw that the man's armor was gleaming and spotless, and his manner of speaking and acting was disciplined, which further confirmed his guess.
"Young Master is...?"
"Raylin Lotter." The knight's voice was steady and powerful, landing clearly.
The mayor's eyes widened suddenly, his pupils contracting sharply. This was because Lothl was the surname of the Blackwater Lord, a viscount's surname.
The moment he realized what was happening, he immediately bent his knees, but Leylin reached out first and firmly supported his arm, the armor clashing together with a crisp sound.
The mayor was still trembling slightly as he looked up at Leylin's young yet composed face and swallowed hard.
"Could it be... that your father is...?"
"Histor Lotter," Leylin uttered the name that was known to everyone in Blackwater Territory.
Yes, that's the legendary knight who single-handedly gathered righteous men, quelled the banditry, and was personally bestowed the title of Blackwater Territory by the king!
"I am Father's third son. You can just call me Lei Lin." Lei Lin was about twenty years old. He was humble and not arrogant. He even used a respectful term for the town mayor, which made the mayor feel quite apprehensive.
However, this also proves the excellent upbringing of the lord's family.
The mayor was immediately terrified and hurriedly waved his hand, "Absolutely not, Lord Leylin! You are a nobleman, while I am just a commoner." He still insisted on adding the honorific, afraid of being impolite.
"My father said that we should be humble and courteous when dealing with respected elders," Leylin smiled. "But since you've spoken, then call them whatever you wish."
What a kind and gentle young nobleman!
Touched, the mayor quickly turned around, took out his treasured Qingxincao tea leaves from the cupboard, and deftly boiled water to brew the tea. Before long, a steaming bowl of tea was served, its delicate aroma filling the room.
Leylin didn't put on airs. He glanced at the teacup, then picked it up and drank it. The temperature was just right.
This is boiling water, yet he could drink it all in one gulp, which shows that he has superhuman strength.
"This tea is quite good," he couldn't help but praise.
"This is a specialty of our Lanxi Town called Qingxincao tea, which can soothe the mind and body." Upon hearing this, the town mayor's face immediately lit up with a smile. "If Lord Leilin likes it, I'll pack you a packet of tea to drink on your journey..."
Lei Lin thanked him for his kindness, put down his teacup, and his expression gradually became serious.
Upon seeing this change in expression, the town mayor was startled.
He knew that such an important person coming to this remote town was definitely not for the conscription two days later.
Could it be...?
wizard!?
The thought had barely crossed his mind when the mayor suppressed it.
No, he only learned from Sheriff Larry yesterday that there were witchcraft items in Lanxi Town, so he sent a messenger to the lord to report the news. How could it have arrived so quickly?
This young master Lei Lin must have something else on his mind.
"I came here following my brother's trail," Leylin said slowly. "Two months ago, he left the lord's manor, traveled through Solaris to Simpton, and hasn't returned since."
Solaris Road is a trade route not far from Lanxi Town, and there are usually quite a few caravans passing through it.
As for Simpton, it is a first-tier town in Blackwater Territory, bustling with merchants and lively, and cannot be compared with this small town.
Upon hearing this, the town mayor had some guesses in his mind.
Leylin continued, "I inquired in Simpton Town, and my brother never made it there, so I think he probably had an accident on the trade route."
"I see." The mayor nodded in understanding. Solaris Road was indeed the only way between Lord's Manor and Simpton Town.
"However, thanks to the efforts of the mercenaries in the surrounding area, there should be no bandits or other villains on this road." He thought for a moment, then frowned.
"I know that too, so I think..." Leylin's eyes suddenly turned dangerous and sharp, like a lion that had found its prey, "the one who kidnapped my brother might not be a robber."
This young master seemed to be implying something.
The town mayor raised an eyebrow, and the alarm blared. Did he mean... someone in Lanxi Town had been incredibly audacious enough to kidnap a noble young master?
That's impossible! The people of Lanxi Town are all law-abiding citizens with traditional values and conservative thinking. They know the seriousness of going against the nobility, so how could they do such a foolish thing?
But then he thought again, as the lord's son, Leylin would certainly not speak without reason. The town mayor quickly dismissed his doubts and respectfully said, "The townspeople of Lanxi will certainly do their utmost to cooperate with you, sir!"
Lei Lin nodded: "I want to check who left Lanxi Town two months ago, or if any unfamiliar faces entered the town."
"Don't worry, sir! Our guards in Lanxi Town keep detailed records of everyone who comes and goes, including their name, place of origin, destination, and companions!" The town mayor, though old, patted his chest with great pride.
……
The news of the noble knight's visit to the mayor's house spread like wildfire throughout Lanxi Town.
Small groups of idle people, eager to join in the fun, gazed at the mayor's house from afar, hoping to catch a glimpse of the nobleman's demeanor.
In particular, that person is said to be a knight. With two such auras, his demeanor must be extraordinary!
Within minutes, a dozen people had gathered on both sides of the road, their eyes wide open like owls in the night, their pupils gleaming with excitement.
The knight emerged from the doorway, his posture upright and his expression solemn. The mayor followed behind, bowing and speaking as he went, his clothes even damp with tears. The knight, however, repeatedly turned to respond, his attitude humble and respectful, like a student meeting a teacher.
The crowd had never seen nobles treat commoners with such courtesy, and they immediately began to discuss it amongst themselves, their voices filled with surprise and admiration.
"Who exactly is this knight, that he's so humble and respectful to the mayor?"
Leylin seemed completely unaware of the crowd watching, and his movements as he mounted his horse were swift and decisive, without any hesitation.
Once seated, he stood tall and straight on horseback, his back as straight as a pine tree, his brows exuding a blend of heroic spirit and majesty, already displaying some of the demeanor of a general.
The townspeople watched intently, secretly admiring: This distinguished person is indeed extraordinary; to have such a demeanor at such a young age is something the young men of Lanxi Town could never match!
Then, the knight pulled on the reins, and his horse obediently turned around and slowly made its way toward the guard post.
The clatter of hooves echoed on the cobblestone streets of the small town.
