At 8 p.m., the hospital corridor was unusually empty.

Song Jingmo gently pushed open the door to the VIP consultation room, where Bai Zhi was packing her things to leave work.

When Lu Er, who was lying in the hospital bed, saw Song Jingmo enter, her eyes immediately lit up. But then she turned her head away, giving him a look that said, "Don't come near me."

"What's wrong?"

Bai Zhi smiled helplessly: "She started making a fuss this afternoon, insisting on taking a bath. I told her the doctor's orders were not to get her wet for seven days, but she just wouldn't listen."

"I haven't showered for three or four days!"

Lu Er suddenly turned her head, her brows furrowed. "It stinks. I can't sleep well. The room smells like pickled vegetables."

Song Jingmo approached the bedside and calmly looked at the person: "The room smells of disinfectant. If you have any problems with your nose, I'll make you an appointment with an ENT specialist."

Lu Er: "I stink, can't you smell it?"

Song Jingmo: "It's normal to have a bit of body odor. Just bear with it for three more days. Taking a shower could easily cause the wound to get infected."

"I can't stand it!"

Lu Er raised her voice, but the movement aggravated the wound on her back, causing her to gasp in pain. "It will get infected if you don't shower."

Song Jingmo sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed: "Stop fooling around. The wounds on your back and arms have only just started to heal. Getting them wet will cause them to become infected."

Lu Er bit her lower lip, staring stubbornly at Song Jingmo.

Ten minutes later, she picked up her phone: "You're not going to help me, are you? Can't I at least call a private doctor to help me wash?"

Upon hearing this, Song Jingmo's face immediately darkened. He grabbed Lu Er's hand and said, "Are you trying to cause trouble?"

"I just want to take a shower."

Lu Er's eyes were slightly red. "I know you hate me and don't want to touch me, but you can't control how I ask others for help, can you?"

Song Jingmo remained silent for a moment, then finally relented and stood up. "Okay, I'll wash you."

Lu Er was stunned, clearly not expecting Song Jingmo to give in so easily.

"I'll go get some waterproof patches, you lie down for a while."

A short while later, Song Jingmo returned to the ward with the waterproof patch.

Lu Er remained seated on the bed in the same position as before, but the anger on her face had dissipated, replaced by tension and even a hint of regret.

"Take off your hospital gown."

Lu Er obediently did as instructed, but his body still stiffened involuntarily when Song Jingmo approached to apply the waterproof patch.

Song Jingmo's fingers occasionally brushed against his skin, and both of them could feel that subtle, electric-like sensation.

After all the waterproof tapes were applied, Song Jingmo went into the bathroom attached to the ward to turn on the water.

The sound of flowing water was exceptionally clear in the quiet room.

Lu Er sat on the edge of the bed and suddenly realized that having Song Jingmo help her take a bath was not a wise decision.

"The water is ready."

Lu Er slowly moved into the bathroom and, with Song Jingmo's help, sat in the bathtub. The warm water flowing over her body was indeed so comfortable that it made her sigh.

Song Jingmo rolled up his sleeves, revealing a section of his pale wrist bone; his slender, jade-like hand exuded strength.

The thought of such beautiful hands scrubbing me in the bath, and possibly scrubbing away some dirt or grime, would be such a spoilsport.

Lu Er felt a little regretful.

Unaware of Lu Er's inner turmoil, Song Jingmo put on plastic gloves and diligently began bathing the person.

The feeling of applying shower gel to her skin with hands wearing plastic gloves made Lu Er feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Why wear gloves?"

"Are you still disgusted by me?"

Lu Er's voice sounded somewhat aggrieved, almost drowned out by the sound of water.

Song Jingmo paused for a moment, then continued, "Don't overthink it, it's just to prevent infection."

There are too many bacteria on my hands.

The shower ended in an almost awkward silence.

Lu Er finished the process in a hurry, and rushed out as soon as she was clean.

Song Jingmo helped him dry off and change into a clean hospital gown, then watched as he quickly burrowed into the blankets like a startled rabbit.

After everything was settled, Song Jingmo sat down on the sofa, opened his laptop, and began processing his students' papers.

The only sounds in the ward were the clatter of keyboards and the faint breathing of the two people.

Lu Er had slept too much during the day and was wide awake. She took out her phone and scrolled through social media, but her eyes kept drifting towards Song Jingmo on the sofa.

Under the light, he could clearly see the dark circles under Song Jingmo's eyes.

These past few days, Song Jingmo has either been on night shift or coming to the hospital to take care of him, and hasn't had a proper rest.

A feeling of heartache mixed with guilt welled up in my heart.

Seeing Song Jingmo close his laptop, Lu Er hesitated before asking, "Would you like to sleep in my bed tonight?"

Song Jingmo raised his head, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

Lu Er hurriedly explained, "The bed in the VIP consultation room is very large; it can easily sleep two people. Sleeping on the sofa is uncomfortable."

As soon as the words left her mouth, she remembered what happened six years ago. Afraid that she had offended Song Jingmo again, she wished she could hide under the covers and bury her head in the sand like an ostrich.

Song Jingmo placed the computer on the table, quietly looked at Lu Er for a few seconds, his gaze complex.

"Okay." Surprisingly, Song Jingmo agreed. "I'll wash up."

When Song Jingmo finished washing up, changed into his pajamas, and lay down on the bed, Lu Er couldn't believe it was real.

The bed was large, and there was a distance between the two of them, like an invisible dividing line between Chu and Han.

Afraid that playing on her phone would disturb Song Jingmo's rest, Lu Er quietly put her phone on the bedside table and prepared to go to sleep.

In the darkness, he could feel Song Jingmo's body temperature and breath.

So close, yet so far.

Song Jingmo was too tired and fell asleep quickly.

But Lu Er couldn't sleep. On the one hand, she had slept too much during the day, and on the other hand, the wounds on her arms and back were healing and were itchy.

She carefully adjusted her posture, trying to alleviate the discomfort, but was afraid that making too much movement would wake Song Jingmo, who was sleeping next to her.

He hasn't dared to lie flat for the past few days, and has been sleeping on his side with his head on a pillow, which has resulted in very poor sleep quality.

Just as he moved gently for the third time, a warm hand suddenly reached out and gently pressed around the wound.

"Is it itchy?" Song Jingmo's voice was sleepy, yet unusually gentle.

Lu Er responded softly, "Mm."

"Don't grab me, just bear with it."

Song Jingmo continued to gently press the surrounding skin, effectively relieving the itching. "Turn around and lean on my shoulder. I'm here, so you don't have to worry about pressing on the wound."

These words brought tears to Lu Er's eyes.

She carefully turned around and gently leaned against Song Jingmo's shoulder.

He was very familiar with this pose.

Whenever he was sick or unwell, Song Jingmo would always sleep with him like this.

"I thought," Lu Er's voice choked slightly, "that after that incident, you hated me getting close to you."

Song Jingmo paused for a moment, then continued pressing: "Sleep, don't overthink it."

Leaning against Song Jingmo, feeling his steady breathing and body temperature, Lu Er suddenly felt that this fall was totally worth it.

Only after confirming that Lu Er was fast asleep did Song Jingmo quietly open his eyes.

In the darkness, by the faint light filtering through the curtains, I gaze at the sleeping person beside me.

Lu Er's sleeping face was as peaceful as a child's, completely different from her noisy appearance just now.

Song Jingmo knew that every minute that passed was one less minute he could have.

Thinking about this, I suddenly felt reluctant to go to sleep and just wanted to savor this rare intimacy a little longer.

"How could I possibly hate you?" Song Jingmo whispered very softly, his voice fading into the night.

The moonlight outside the window moved quietly, casting long, narrow patches of light on the hospital room floor.

The two people on the bed slept peacefully and quietly.
