Chapter 23 Will the Beast Win?
The Beast, the primal demon worshipped by the Hand, revealed a cunning smile.
For an entity like it, believers are merely a useful resource. The Hand hopes that its "Lord" will grant it power so that it can gain a higher status and authority. It also needs those diligent fools to help it come to earth. Once successful, it can escape hell and incidentally gain an organization that has been cultivating the earth for many years.
To put it bluntly, it's a pyramid scheme. Considering that those ninjas who obtain the body of a demon will eventually become its puppets unconditionally, it wouldn't be wrong to call this kind of organizational business model a "pig butchering scam."
Now, it has managed to bring part of its existence into the human world through the body of Lady Bullseye, but that's not enough. Although the vessel is tough enough, it cannot perfectly contain all its power. The ritual must be further modified to find a better vessel.
Otherwise, they might be approached by people from Kunlun or Kamar-Taj.
The beast was well aware of its own limitations. Although it was considered a powerful demon, if it were to deal with the power of a dragon or the Sorcerer Supreme... don't ask, it would be guaranteed to die.
Standing on the rooftop, the beast—or rather, the beast that had taken over part of Bullseye's body—began to ponder its next course of action.
The magical fire pillar behind them gradually dissipated; presumably, the people inside had already turned to ashes.
"Not enough firepower, my friend."
Suddenly, a slender hand emerged from the fading flames and gently patted the beast's arm twice.
The primal demon was immediately alarmed and turned around to see Mason gently wave his hands twice, as if fanning away smoke, thus easily dispelling the remaining flames.
Baksim's body was not burned at all, and there wasn't even a single black mark left.
That's right.
You know the Specium Ray, right? It's a common move used by Ultraman, with a temperature starting at 500,000 degrees Celsius and no upper limit. However, for a Super Beast, a Specium Ray with normal power cannot guarantee a kill. It may only injure or even restrain it, which shows just how terrifying its physical defense is.
So this mere 3,000-degree warm air... to be honest, it's not much different from the hairdryer in a hair salon. They're both just pieces of junk that can't even generate a forced -1.
To be honest, Mason was a little disappointed.
"You have to be reasonable when you're in this business, right?" He shook his head and said, "Not responding to a greeting is one thing, but to attack without a word is a bit much, isn't it?"
"Of course, that's how you demons are, I understand, so now I'm explaining my reasoning—"
Mason tilted his head, then leaped up with lightning speed, slapping the beast across the face with a large punch.
"You're asking for it, aren't you!"
Omitted earlier, but Mason is actually a man who values rituals.
Taking gaming as an example, he prefers a combat style that maximizes the entertainment value by accurately calculating damage, and he is not fond of the kind of behavior that involves secretly stacking a bunch of buffs and then sneaking up on the boss to kill it in one hit.
Do things in a trendy way, or you'll become a low-class person with no popularity.
When fighting, ways to boost your style rating include, but are not limited to, [speaking witty remarks], [easily deflecting enemy attacks], [recalling past events], [claiming the right to point fingers], and [explaining the situation]. In the present context, while he can certainly unleash a combo before his opponent can react, that would be seen as bullying the weak. Allowing the opponent to ambush him first and then launching a reasonable counterattack would greatly increase his style rating.
Some might ask, "Didn't you just fire a shot while a ninja was speaking?" Well, that's a different story—it's obvious which is more important, being fashionable or winning. He, Mei, just has a sense of ritual; he wouldn't risk his life to show off.
Double standards? Certainly, but that's human nature. Who in the world doesn't have double standards?
The force, measured in tens of thousands of tons, slammed into the beast's massive face, producing a thunderous roar. The enormous body, which appeared to weigh at least half a ton, was instantly propelled into the sky, spinning like a top under the glow of the setting sun.
Everyone saw it; it started it!
After hovering in the air for a few seconds, the beast fell headfirst to the other end of the rooftop, its comical rear end exposed, and its calves twitched twice like a skinned frog.
But this demon from hell was indeed more formidable than those lowly ninjas. Before Mason could leisurely walk up to it, it kicked its leg and regained its standing posture—if one ignored its dislocated jaw and large areas of torn muscle, one might even think that it had only been knocked back and was not injured.
"...??%@?"
Subconsciously, he raised his hand and turned his dislocated jaw back into place. The powerful magic within his body drove his flesh to regenerate, but the beast's mind did not immediately return to normal.
What happened? I was defeated by a mortal? Defeated by a mortal who showed absolutely no signs of practicing magic or arcane arts?
Although he saw Bullseye's memories, given that she was just a mortal with slightly stronger physical abilities, the beast assumed that the opponent, whom a mere mortal could not contend with, was nothing more than a larger ant, which he could easily destroy with a flick of his wrist. He never expected such a development to occur.
Are you kidding me? How is this possible? Could she be a subordinate of some god, possessing cosmic secrets within her?
The beast staggered a few steps as if it were drunk. After finally shaking off the dizziness in its mind, it saw that Mason had already walked up to it.
Although the demon's body doesn't have the ability to sweat, it still felt a large amount of cold sweat break out on its back at that moment.
PTSD is here, holy crap!
In that instant, it recalled its sad past when it was still a weak and helpless demon.
Hell is a cruel place where demons see each other as food. When they meet, they kill each other. The result is usually a fight to the death, or they take the other as their dog. There is no room for luck.
But Hell is by no means a simple battlefield; it's rife with all sorts of terrifying schemes. Powerful demons feigning weakness to lure victims is commonplace. Beasts, who were victims when weak and perpetrators when powerful, see their current situation as a clear example of this.
This woman inexplicably asked Matsumoto Maki to come to her, and only showed a power that wasn't particularly strong, making her mistakenly believe that summoning her would solve the problem... Isn't this a trap?
As for its purpose, it could come up with dozens of reasons with a single glance—you see, demons are, in a sense, treasures from head to toe. Their body tissues can be used as high-level spellcasting materials, their spirits can be used to extract the secret energy of the hell dimension, and their innate magical knowledge is highly coveted by humans. Throughout history, many mages have signed contracts with demons, exchanging powerful abilities in various ways.
—But as far as it knows, those human mages at least have methods and procedures in their work. Even if they want to capture demons to get materials, they will at least set up a magic circle and perform some rituals before turning against them. It has never been heard of this fishing method of finding a certain family's believers, beating them up, and forcing them to call them the boss.
Holy crap, when did the world become so treacherous?
After figuring out the reality (which was actually nonexistent), the beast became enraged!
It has always been the devils who deceive humans. When did it become the turn of humans to be tricked by the devils?
—Although this woman doesn't smell very human, it's a matter of dignity. It's been hunting eagles in hell for thousands of years, and today a goose has pecked out its eye. How can it tolerate this?
Absolutely not!
Even if it costs this body everything and sacrifices the chance to enter the human world, it must get its revenge! Otherwise, if the news gets out that it, a dignified primordial demon, has been tricked, its reputation accumulated over many years in hell will suffer a devastating blow!
Bullseye Lady: I have no objection.
In the next instant, driven by rage, the beast transformed the dense hellish secret energy within its body into a blood-red flame, powerful enough to pierce through mountains and burn down towns. It locked onto Mason as its target and was about to launch a fierce attack!
"Oh, that's interesting."
After assessing the threat level of his opponent using the data analysis capabilities inherent in the Super Beast, Mason smiled and openly and fearlessly went to meet him.
