The cabin was extremely noisy; you had to shout to even speak.

Gu Zheng sat next to Ye Zhen and skillfully fastened her four-point seatbelt and tightened the buckle.

Are you scared?

Gu Zheng leaned close to her ear and asked loudly.

Ye Zhen glanced at the dark night sky outside the cabin.

"If I'm afraid, I won't go."

She asked a question in return, then pulled open the small folding tactical board in front of her and took a marker out of her pocket.

She turned to look at Lin Yi and Li Hong, who were sitting opposite her, their faces pale.

"Come here, let's have a pre-operative planning meeting!"

Ye Zhen patted the tactics board.

Lin Yi and Li Hong quickly stepped forward.

Ye Zhen quickly drew the outline of a heart on the board and drew a heavy cross on the left anterior descending coronary artery with a red pen.

"Listen, this surgery is going to remove this thorn while the heart is beating completely."

Lin Yi swallowed hard and asked loudly.

"Teacher Ye, how fast is your heartbeat?"

"The injured person is in the compensatory shock phase, and tachycardia is inevitable. The estimated heart rate is around 120 to 140 beats per minute!"

Li Hong gasped.

My heart was pounding at an extremely high frequency, one hundred and forty times per minute.

Performing millimeter-level micromanipulation on such a surface is extremely dangerous; even a deviation of 0.1 millimeters by the tweezers could lead to disaster.

"You two are tasked with helping me establish a bloodless vision system."

Ye Zhen tapped the whiteboard twice heavily.

"If there's any bleeding, use a suction device immediately. Not a single drop of blood can obstruct my view. Once we're over there, no matter how bad the conditions are, your hands mustn't shake. Understand?"

"clear!"

The two young men straightened their backs and answered loudly.

Gu Zheng, standing to the side, looked at Ye Zhen's cool and professional profile under the light, and his lips tightened slightly.

He turned his head, put on his tactical headset, and connected to the Northwest Military Region's encrypted channel.

"This is Gu Zheng from the 761st Regiment. I'm here to report on the situation at your site."

The sound coming from the headphones was intermittent, mixed with the loud wind and the hissing of electrical current.

"Commander Gu! The situation is terrible! The explosion destroyed the base's runway, and helicopters can't land! Plus, a sandstorm has started outside, reducing visibility to less than five meters!"

Gu Zheng's face instantly darkened.

"What is the injured person's condition now?"

"His blood pressure is still dropping! The local blood plasma supply has run out! We're organizing blood donations for the soldiers, but he won't last much longer!"

Gu Zheng ripped off his headphones and looked at the driver.

How far are we from the target?

"Ten minutes!"

Gu Zheng turned his head and looked at Ye Zhen.

"daughter in law."

Gu Zheng pointed to the thick, coiled rope on the cabin floor.

"There's no runway. The sandstorm is too strong; the helicopters can't land."

He paused, then spoke slowly and deliberately.

"Get ready to rappel. I'll take you down."

The strong wind whipped up yellow sand and slammed it against the helicopter's windshield.

The cabin was violently shaken.

The enormous roar of the propellers was completely drowned out by the howling sandstorm outside.

The captain was covered in sweat and was frantically shouting through the intercom.

"No way! The wind force is over level eight! Visibility is less than five meters!"

The captain gripped the control stick tightly with both hands, his veins bulging.

"The ground guidance lights are completely ineffective. A forced landing would result in a crash and loss of life!"

"How long can it hover at the lowest?" Gu Zheng asked.

"Ninety seconds at most! The price must rise after ninety seconds!"

"Hover!"

Without a word, Gu Zheng turned around, strode back into the cabin, and yanked open the side door.

A strong wind carrying coarse sand instantly filled the entire cabin.

Lin Yi and Li Hong were so drenched in the wind that they could barely open their eyes and had to cover their faces with their arms.

"Prepare to rappel!"

Gu Zheng tore two tactical ropes off the bulkhead, locked one end to the hatch hook, and quickly tied the other end into a double figure-eight knot.

He strode up to Ye Zhen, half-squatted down, and fastened the rope buckle into her tactical belt.

He tugged hard on the rope twice to make sure it was locked, then put a pair of windproof goggles on her face.

"Hold on tight to the main rope!"

Gu Zheng leaned close to her ear, his voice piercing through the storm.

"Just hold on tight, leave the rest to me!"

Ye Zhen's cheeks were white from the wind, but her movements were without the slightest hesitation.

She gripped the rough rope with her other hand and turned to look at the two medical students huddled in the back row.

"Lin Yi! Li Hong!"

Ye Zhen's voice drowned out the sound of the wind.

"Final check: Siemens micro-operational devices, microvascular clamps! Have the vasopressors and antiarrhythmic drugs been inventoried?"

"Inventory complete!"

The two men, carrying heavy medical kits, responded loudly.

Gu Zheng put on his gloves and glanced at the communication light on his headset.

Intermittent static came from the ground radio, while Director He's anxious shouts entered Gu Zheng and Ye Zhen's earpieces.

"The injured person's blood pressure has dropped to 70! Shrapnel is moving! It's suspected that the shrapnel has irritated the coronary arteries, causing severe spasm! He has at most less than an hour to hold on!"

An hour, which is usually just the time it takes to eat a meal, is now a countdown to the end of a life.

"I'll go first!"

Gu Zheng grabbed the rope with one hand, leaned back out of the cabin, and leaped directly into the night sky filled with yellow sand.

The heavy ropes rubbed against the pulleys at high speed.

In just a few seconds, Gu Zheng's boot slammed heavily onto the ground.

The strong wind pushed him to his knees.

He quickly adjusted his center of gravity, pulled out an infrared signal light from his waist, and stuck it firmly into the sand to mark a safe landing point.

"Down!"

Gu Zheng shouted into the walkie-talkie.

Ye Zhen took a deep breath, gripped the main rope tightly with both hands, and slid out of the hatch.

A feeling of weightlessness suddenly overwhelmed me.

The strong wind immediately swept her thin body to one side.

When they were still seven or eight meters from the ground, a strong crosswind suddenly swept by.

Ye Zhen lost her balance in mid-air and crashed straight down into a piece of abandoned steel rebar below.

"Teacher Ye!"

Li Hong's exclamation came from the cabin above.

Gu Zheng's eyes suddenly narrowed as he stood on the ground.

He strained with both legs, braving the strong wind to run a few steps across the sand, accurately predicting his landing point.

The moment Ye Zhen fell, Gu Zheng abandoned the rope and pounced forward, grabbing her waist with his long arm. Using the momentum of the fall, he rolled and tumbled on the sand to dissipate the force.

The two rolled several meters across the rough ground.

Gu Zheng's training uniform was torn by the rubble in the ruins, and in order to protect Ye Zhen, his palms were rubbed raw and bloody on the sand and gravel.

He quickly rolled over and shielded Ye Zhen beneath him, protecting her from the swirling yellow sand.

"Are you alright?"

Gu Zheng asked urgently.

Ye Zhen took off her goggles, brushed the sand off her body, and quickly stood up, supporting herself on his shoulders.

"It's alright. Tell Lin Yi and the others to hurry up!"

Lin Yi and Li Hong slid down the rope one after the other.

When Li Hong landed, she accidentally missed a step and her knee hit the concrete block hard, causing blood to seep out immediately.

Ignoring the pain, her first reaction was to clutch the sterile instrument pack to her chest and check for any damage.

Lin Yi shielded the large aluminum alloy box containing Siemens equipment with his body, fearing it might be blown away by the wind.

Once the helicopter has completed its deployment, it immediately ascends and leaves.

The base's political commissar led a team of fully armed soldiers and rushed over.

Without a word, the soldiers formed two human walls in the sandstorm, using their backs to block the raging wind, and carved out a passage through the ruins.

The medical team, escorted by a human wall, quickly passed through the explosion site.

The surrounding area was filled with charred remains.

The pungent smell of gunpowder smoke mixed with the strange odor of burning chemical reagents.

Not far away, in the still-smoking ruins, rescuers were carrying stretchers and running out; the oppressive atmosphere made it hard to breathe.

Inside the makeshift medical tent, Director He and an elderly military doctor with gray hair were anxiously pacing back and forth.

Seeing Gu Zheng lead the medical team in, Director He breathed a sigh of relief.

But when he saw Ye Zhen take off her mask, his expression changed immediately.

too young.

Is this the famous Ye Zhen? The top cardiac surgeon sent from above?
