Tomb raiding: A mere 20 is nothing!

Chapter 12 Leaving the Bronze Gate

Leave the bronze gate.

When Shen Mingchao first arrived here, she thought about this idea eight hundred times a day.

She wanted to go out and take a good shower, go out for a big meal, and then go out and binge-watch anime and TV series.

These thoughts were what kept her from going crazy in the early stages.

Later, as time went on and she gradually adapted to life in the Bronze Gate, another, more pressing problem emerged.

Even if she could get out, would the outside world still be the familiar world she grew up in?

Will she really be able to contact Shen Mingyue and the others and get home?

Shen Mingchao dared not think about it too much. Since she couldn't get out anytime soon anyway, she buried the question in her heart for the time being.

Now, as the door finally opens, this question is back in front of her.

She had no choice but to face it.

Shen Mingchao had no idea how Zhang Qilan kept track of time. It was just an ordinary day, and Zhang Qilan casually remarked, "It's time."

Upon hearing this, Shen Mingchao almost bit his tongue.

As if to confirm Zhang Qilin's words, the ground suddenly shook violently. A huge buzzing sound came from afar, giving Shen Mingchao a headache.

"This is..." Shen Mingchao asked, frowning, "The door is open?"

Zhang Qilin stood up and said to Shen Mingchao, "Pack your things, we're leaving."

There wasn't much to pack; they didn't have much stuff to begin with, so Shen Mingchao quickly packed a backpack.

"We're still a distance from the exit, stay close to me."

Despite still being somewhat dazed, Shen Mingchao obediently followed Zhang Qilin's steps.

As they walked, they faintly heard the low growls of beasts coming from behind them, indicating that they were heading in the opposite direction from that forbidden area.

Shen Mingchao's mind suddenly became hazy. The voice seemed to have a magical power, constantly calling to her, wanting her to go back.

She ultimately couldn't resist the temptation and unconsciously turned around.

With just one glance, Shen Mingchao felt a chill run down his spine.

She saw the densely packed crowd of people rushing towards them like locusts in a swarm.

Shen Mingchao quickly turned around, grabbed the sleeve of the young man beside him, and followed him closely.

To be honest, if she could, she really wanted to become Yao Mei and ride directly on Zhang Qilin's head. Or become a leg accessory and be carried around by Zhang Qilin.

Unfortunately, these can only remain beautiful fantasies.

Shen Mingchao didn't know how long he had been walking; when people are under great mental stress, their perception of time is often blurred.

When Zhang Qilan slowed down, she realized they were almost there.

Under the illumination of his searchlight, Shen Mingchao first noticed the massive bronze wall nearby, which gleamed with a metallic sheen, its engraved patterns shimmering with a wave-like phosphorescence.

Shen Mingchao looked up through the crack in the door and found that the door was so tall that one could not see the bottom at a glance.

This ancient bronze door carries a sense of historical weight, like an old man who has weathered many storms, standing there silently for thousands of years.

Just one door separates two worlds.

Suddenly, a chill ran down her spine, and Shen Mingchao shivered. As if sensing something, she turned around and saw one or two figures rushing toward them at an extremely fast speed.

Shen Mingchao's eyes widened. Before she could dodge, the figures instantly turned into dust and vanished on the ground behind her.

Zhang Qilan, who was standing to the side, noticed Shen Mingchao's unusual behavior. He stopped and turned his head.

Shen Mingchao withdrew her gaze, raised her eyes to meet Zhang Qilan's gaze, and after spending a long time together, she roughly guessed that he was concerned about her and asked her what had happened.

"Those figures seem to have caught up with us, but then they disappeared again," Shen Mingchao said, pointing behind them.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Qilin immediately became alert. He turned around, gripping his knife, and cautiously surveyed his surroundings. Finding nothing amiss, he looked back at Shen Mingchao.

"Let's go."

After saying that, he quickened his pace.

Shen Mingchao nodded and quickly followed.

A few flickering flames were faintly visible ahead in the darkness, and perhaps because of the distance, they looked more like will-o'-the-wisps in the night.

Shen Mingchao knew that the people outside were probably Wu Xie and his group, but in order not to arouse Zhang Qilu's suspicion, she still pretended to be curious and pointed ahead.

"Are those the people over there here to pick you up?"

"kindness."

The two continued walking, and the flames gradually grew larger. Faintly, a lyrical melody drifted over.

Shen Mingchao listened carefully and recognized it as an English song she knew very well—See You Again.

Hearing this feels like it was just yesterday. Who would have thought that just a few months ago, in a guesthouse at the foot of Changbai Mountain, she and Shen Mingyue were rewatching Fast & Furious 7? The two of them were eating barbecue and were moved to tears.

If she remembers correctly, Fast & Furious 7 was released in 15.

Shen Mingchao couldn't help but blurt out, "Those people who came to pick you up are quite trendy."

Zhang Qiyu: ?

Shen Mingchao didn't explain, and then exclaimed, "Using this song as the background music for your reunion is indeed fitting. Who played it? That's utterly quack doctor, a rotten hand trying to bring winter back to life!"

Zhang Qilin: ? ?

He knew that Shen Mingchao had relapsed into his old habit and started saying things in Chinese that he couldn't understand.

So, as always, he ignored these comments.

When the campfires were close by, Shen Mingchao discovered that many people were lying haphazardly around him.

Various snoring sounds filled the air, and the air was hardly fresh.

Fortunately, after five months of training, her patience has greatly improved, and these are not her biggest concerns right now.

Using the firelight, Shen Mingchao scanned the area and finally spotted his target in an open bag on the ground.

She crept over, pulled the thing out of her bag, her fingers trembling as she tore open the packaging and took a bite.

Woohoo, these are scallion-flavored biscuits.

Who knows? This is so delicious! She almost cried while eating it, waaaaah...
