Re:Zero -Starting Life in Zero

Chapter 2 The blonde loser is a locksmith

Clang, clang~

On the streets of the royal capital Lugnica, Al was pulling a prison cart behind Priscilla.

Along the way, many people stood there pointing and whispering.

"By the way, where did you get this car from?"

Green sat cross-legged in the bumpy prison van, resting his chin on his hand, looking utterly helpless.

"Oh, you mean this?"

Al knocked on the sturdy frame of the prison van and said,

"Borrowed from the guards of the capital. I had no idea you were a wanted criminal!"

"Huh? Me?"

Green pointed at himself, bewildered.

Al asked in surprise, "Yes, those guards told me. Didn't you know that yourself?"

Grimm nodded: "I just found out, it's illegal for me to tell fairy tales?"

Al laughed loudly, "Haha, no, that's not it. Your charges are not having identification and creating panic among young children. They call you a child agitator or a terrorizer."

Green rolled his eyes and said speechlessly, "That's crazy. A child who gets scared by fairy tales will never amount to anything."

"Brother, you really can't escape this charge. Your fairy tales are too dark, with things like a queen who attempted cannibalism and a prince with necrophilia. They're sure to scare kids."

Al explained that he had inquired about this guy, Green, from the patrolling guards.

Green was not from the capital, and was probably not even a citizen of the Kingdom of Lugnica, the Dragon Kingdom; it was as if he had appeared out of thin air.

This made Al even more certain that Green came from the planet he remembered, giving him a feeling of meeting an old friend in a foreign land.

Furthermore, Al felt that since Green was a transferee, he must possess some special ability, just like Al, and bringing him back would most likely be helpful to the princess.

Because he had no identification, Green often mingled in the slums, a place teeming with all sorts of people and fraught with danger.

Thinking back to the ten years he spent as a sword slave, Al felt even more that his good brother had had a tough time.

"Hey, Al!"

Priscilla, who was walking at the front, called out and handed Al a book that read "Dark Fairy Tales": "Do you recognize this language?"

Al took the fairy tale book, flipped through it, shook his head, and said, "I can only understand one or two words, I can't understand the meaning. Do you think it might be some kind of gospel from a witch's cult?"

"Hey, hey! I'm warning you not to talk nonsense! I'm suing you for defamation, you know that? I'm suing you for defamation!"

Green gripped the iron cage with both hands and angrily shouted at Al.

"You two illiterate idiots, you don't even know simplified Chinese! Give it back to me right now!"

After saying that, Green stretched out his right hand and clenched it in the air. The black fairy tale book in Al's hand "poof" turned into a cloud of stardust and disappeared. Then, it flashed and appeared in Green's hand.

Al exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, brother, you can even recall this book? That's quite a convenient ability."

"That's nothing, let me show you something else."

Grimm scoffed, snapped his fingers, and the fairy tale book indeed turned into stardust and disappeared once again.

Priscilla blinked her beautiful eyes, clapped her hands lightly, and asked curiously, "Besides these clown magic tricks, can you do anything else interesting, commoner?"

Upon hearing this, Green immediately crouched down at the edge of the cage, straining to get closer, and earnestly said:

"Yes, Your Highness, yes! Even if you let me go, I'll still run away!"

"Haha, Fanfu, your comical performance was quite entertaining."

Priscilla smiled gently. The world really does revolve around me. Even in the most rigid royal capital, I can still meet such an interesting fellow.

Boom! Boom!

A series of muffled sounds came from afar.

Priscilla looked into the distance and deduced, "Someone is casting magic over on North Street."

Al asked, "Should I go and investigate?"

Priscilla waved her hand dismissively: "You mean you want me to take over pulling this filthy prison cart from you?"

Al gave an awkward laugh: "Haha, that's true. Let's go back to the mansion then."

Green sighed. Judging from the commotion, Felt's badge-stealing plan must have started as well.

He came into this world two months ago and was constantly chased by guards because he had no identification.

During his time on the run, Green encountered a blonde loli named Ferute.

Later, through Ferut's introduction, he went to work as a handyman for Lord Rom, earning a little money in the process, which is how he managed to survive until now.

Now that I've finally unlocked my superpowers, I never expected to go to jail. Life is truly unpredictable.

As the prison van moved forward, Green couldn't help but feel a sense of desolation.

"Ah~ Iron gate, iron window, iron chains~ I lean against the iron window and look outside~ How wonderful life is outside~ When will I be able to return to my home..."

Just as Green was lying on his side in the prison van, contemplating the impermanence of life, a soft female voice suddenly reached his ears.

"Hey, what are you howling about? How did you get caught? You're so useless."

Green subtly lowered his gaze, only then noticing the blonde, red-eyed little girl hanging from the back of the car.

Green, who had been listless, immediately perked up upon seeing the little guy and replied in a voice so low that only those close enough to hear could hear him, "Help me, help me."

Upon seeing this, Ferut grinned mischievously and held up five fingers.

Five silver coins?

You heartless brat!

"make a deal."

Green gritted his teeth and spat out those two words.

Ferut must have secretly gone through his wallet, otherwise she wouldn't have known how much money he had.

"Hehe, another fortune!"

Ferut laughed happily, then took out a thin wire and inserted it into the lock of the prison cart, stirring it around.

Click, click.

The lock popped open.

"Hey bro, what are you up to?"

The prison van suddenly stopped, and Al, who had heard something amiss, turned around to look at Green.

"Run!"

Ferut cried out in surprise, leaped away like a nimble little rabbit, and quickly began her escape.

"He's run away, bro! The curtain's drawn!"

Green chanted a spell and cast a dark magic spell. Instantly, a cloud of black smoke spread rapidly from him, covering a small area in the blink of an eye.

In the black fog, Green pushed open the prison van door and fled in the direction of Ferut.

Priscilla, under the sun, was not covered by the veil; the black mist evaporated like water vapor before it even approached her, forming a clean protective circle around her.

She watched Greene run away with a smile on her face, without giving chase.

"Ahem, Your Highness, should we go after him?"

Al frantically waved his hands, trying to dispel the black fog in front of him.

"No need. If I am willing, the world will send that squid back to me."

……

Meanwhile, Green and Felt escaped into an alley.

"Whew~ I'm exhausted, I can't go on."

Green lay down against the wall.

"Don't stop, Green! You're not the only one being chased!"

Ferut was getting anxious and urged Green to get up and run.

Green looked at Ferut helplessly and asked, "Don't tell me you've already succeeded?"

Ferut took out an amber badge from his pocket. The gold patterns depicted a dragon with outstretched wings, and a glowing blood-red gem was embedded in the center.

This thing is proof of the crown prince's status, and only four have been issued nationwide so far, so you can imagine how valuable it is.

"Six! The owner must be going crazy."

Green fell silent for a moment.

"Awesome, haha, but the most important step now is to shake off the little tail behind us!"

Ferut laughed heartlessly. After handing the badge to her employer, she would receive five holy gold coins, enough for her to move out of the slums.

As long as she gets rid of the guys chasing her, this operation will be a great success!

Then, Ferut shook her little head, as if she had thought of a brilliant idea.

Green sensed something was wrong and quietly moved a little further away.
