Re:Zero -Starting Life in Zero

Chapter 31 The Real Beast

"The smell of blood is so strong."

Mary's smile vanished, replaced by a look of seriousness and confusion.

King Volgam paced restlessly in place.

The surrounding trees, wildflowers, and even short grass were withering and collapsing, as if they had suddenly lost their lives.

Mary suddenly shivered; she sensed a powerful magical beast watching her.

"Who's there!"

Boom!Boom!Boom!

The ground was shaking, not because an earthworm was turning over, but because someone was walking.

"Found you...found you, hahaha, the hundredth one!"

A maniacal laugh ripped through the silence, and the next second, the bushes in the forest were violently torn apart.

Amidst the flying debris and fallen leaves, a gigantic, half-wolf, half-lion monster rose to its feet and pressed down like a small mountain.

This behemoth resembles a "lion-wolf monarch draped in magnificent robes," with every detail blending a contrast between wildness and nobility.

Its body was over four meters tall, and its entire body was covered with gray and black mane.

On its half-lion, half-wolf head, a pair of icy blue vertical pupils shone brightly, like icy gems embedded in its fur.

Its gaping maw revealed two rows of dagger-like sharp teeth, saliva dripping from between them, mingling with a ferocious aura.

On the broad shoulders of the giant beast stood two maids, one in blue and one in pink, with a brand-new path formed by the beast's rampage behind them.

The path was littered with the corpses of Volgam monsters. What was terrifying was that all of these canine monsters had their bellies ripped open, with countless entrails, intestines, and fresh blood spilling out onto the ground.

"This is... how magnificent it is, its size is almost as big as a rock boar."

Mary was so shocked she could barely speak.

Before this behemoth, King Volgam seemed to have transformed once again into a cuddly puppy.

boom!

The "mountain" moved, its enormous body leaping up and transforming into a blur. When it reappeared, only a giant claw the size of a canopy was hurtling towards it.

Before the claws even reached the target, a strong gust of wind was generated, and Mary's petite body was blown away.

This saved her life. Before King Volgam could react, his enormous head and chest were smashed open.

Blood, froth, and bits of flesh flew everywhere, and half of the body fell backward.

Petra on the ground was terrified, her whole body covered in dog blood, trembling like a leaf, with soft sobs escaping her lips unconsciously.

"No...don't eat me..."

Ram frowned and kicked the giant beast's mouth.

"You idiot, Green, even if your head gets bigger, it's still a rat's brain! If you scare the kids in Alam Village into having mental disabilities, the medical bills will be deducted from your monthly salary!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Ram dragged his tired body and leaped off the giant beast's shoulder.

She rushed to Petra's side and embraced her, then turned without hesitation and quickly left the center of the bloody battlefield.

Rescuing Petra and bringing her back to the village was also a task assigned to her by Green.

On the other side, Rem whispered in the giant beast's ear, "Do you need Rem's help, Grin-kun?"

The behemoth shook its head, retracted its sword-like claws, and then picked Rem up, its voice booming like a bell.

"Don't worry, Rem, leave this to me. You and Ram should hurry back to the village and repair the barrier as soon as possible!"

"Okay, Grin-kun, leave it to Rem."

Rem nodded obediently and followed in Ram's direction.

The behemoth before them was none other than Grimm in his "Beast Prince" monster form.

After killing King Volgam, who had cursed him, his body, which had been draining magic like an hourglass, finally stopped losing its power.

The surrounding plants also stopped withering at the same time.

Even so, nearly half of the forest's vegetation looked like autumn had arrived, with withered trees, scorched leaves, and countless unsprouted seeds ceasing to grow in their embryos.

Once activated, the forest protection system seemed to turn into a moving ecological disaster.

The behemoth strolled leisurely toward Meryl, and as it passed the corpse of King Volgam, it extended its sharp claws and gently grazed it.

scoff!

Instantly, the corpse was torn to pieces like tofu, and its internal organs poured out through the cuts.

Despairingly, Mary looked up as the giant beast walked towards her step by step, finally crouching down in front of her.

"You... what kind of monster are you...?"

The giant beast chuckled sinisterly, its breath whipping around Meryl like a hurricane.

"Merry...you should start running..."

The behemoth spoke in a deep, rumbling voice, and raised its enormous fist to slam it down in front of Meryl.

Mary felt as if a shell had exploded beneath her feet, the massive shockwave lifting her into the air.

As the field of vision continued to rise, my hearing temporarily disappeared, leaving only tinnitus echoing in my mind.

After tumbling through the air for about ten times, Mary finally landed on the ground, covered in injuries.

Exhausted from all her strength, she collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.

After a long while, just as Mary's hearing began to recover a little, Green's deathly voice once again entered her cochlea.

"Can't run anymore, Meryl? We're not exactly friends, so letting you die slower is in line with your assassin logic, isn't it?"

Green slowly extended his beast-like hand and gently grasped the defenseless Mary in his palm.

The force was just right; only her small head was exposed, yet it was enough to make her have difficulty breathing.

"Ahem!"

Mary coughed up several mouthfuls of blood, staring desperately at the head-sized eyeball in Green's eye socket.

"Elsa... please save me..."

As soon as he finished speaking, a dark shadow suddenly flashed by like lightning. The man drew a curved knife from his waist and slashed at Green.

Ding!

The sound of metal clashing rang out, and Green felt a sharp pain in his wrist and knuckles, as if he had been pricked by fine needles.

puff!

Several gashes appeared on Green's grip on Meryl's hand, and blood mist gushed out like a flood.

"who!"

Green's tendons and joints were precisely severed, preventing the transfer of power, and his fingers went limp and loose.

Mary's body was freed, and just as the dark figure was about to reach out to catch her, Green's beastly instincts had already caught her movement.

The behemoth used its left foot as a base, spun around violently, and delivered a spinning kick that struck the dark figure squarely.

The man was sent flying backwards with a loud "boom," as if struck by incredible luck.

Then, Green's thick tail deftly lifted Mary from mid-air and hid her behind him.

"Wow, Mr. Beast's reaction time is really quick!"

A deep, soft voice came from the ground as Elsa, the Bowel Hunter, slowly rose to her feet. The Northern Scimitar twirled in her hand, dancing like a butterfly.

A dent appeared on his chest, and blood kept gushing from his mouth.

If it were an ordinary person, they would probably be in a near-death state.
