Re:Zero -Starting Life in Zero

Chapter 6 Imprisonment

"Hey, stop disgusting me! Isn't anyone going to do anything about this?"

"Are you called the instigator, sir? I will always remember your kindness! I will come back to redeem you as soon as I have the money."

"Tch, who needs your bail? How could I possibly go to jail? Watch my performance!"

Green smiled smugly, moved closer to the edge of the prison van, and then beckoned to Reinhard.

"Reinhard, could you come here for a moment?"

Faced with the prisoner's rude demands, Reinhard was not angry at all. Instead, he obediently slowed down and came to Grin's side.

"Your Excellency, instigator, what can I do for you?"

Green, ever the friendly type, reached out and patted Reinhardt on the shoulder.

"Ugh~ What instigator? I don't know which bastard gave me that name. Just call me Green."

"Yes, Mr. Green."

"I actually want to ask you a question, a very important question."

"Please speak, Mr. Green."

"Rhine, would you like a blonde loli to be your wife? Just say the word and I'll send her over right away."

Hearing this, Otto quickly pulled Green back: "This is very rude, Mr. Green. Offending the Knight is not a good thing right now."

Reinhard's expression remained unchanged, still bearing a sunny and cheerful smile.

"Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Green, but I haven't considered my marriage yet. The safety of the kingdom is always my top priority."

Green narrowed his eyes slightly and said in a low voice, "Don't you even want the surviving princess of the Lugnica royal family?"

A slight ripple finally appeared in Reinhard's usually calm eyes.

A surviving princess? How could that be?

In January of Lugunica Year 47, the royal family suffered its first case of a strange illness that even dragon blood could not cure. In June of that year, the last member of the royal family, Frie Lugunica, passed away. In July, the Sages officially declared that the "royal bloodline was extinct" and initiated the royal selection process. More than half a year has passed since then.

What puzzled Reinhard was that the protection of truth did not point out that Green was lying.

Either Green has already numbed his mind, causing himself to become deeply entangled in a vortex of lies; or what Green said is the truth!

"Mr. Green, I can't pretend I didn't hear that."

Reinhardt's voice became serious and earnest.

Green knew that the ancient precepts of the Sword Saint family were: when the royal bloodline was about to end, the last seed must be protected.

"Sword Saint, instead of doubting what I say here, why don't you go and verify it for yourself?"

After saying that, Green tossed an object the size of a coin to Reinhard.

Reinhard took it and saw that it was indeed the amber badge that proved his eligibility for the royal selection. It would emit a faint light like a dragon's eye whenever it was in the hands of a royal candidate.

"The Dragonstone Badge? Mr. Green, would you like to add another charge of stealing the Crown Prince's treasure?"

"Pah! Why are you always trying to frame me? Is it possible that I was the one who stood up for what was right and got it back? Otherwise, why would I be being chased by such a suspicious guy?"

Green was speechless. How could this sword saint be even better at wronging people than he was?

Reinhardt suddenly realized what was happening, adjusted his mindset, and bowed to Green.

"I apologize, Mr. Grimm. Please forgive my preconceived notions; this is a shortcoming of my knightly standards. I hope you can forgive me and tell me the princess's location."

Green was desperate; he couldn't very well go to jail.

Once the Sword Saint finds Felt, the princess who has been lost among the common people, and helps her become a candidate for the throne, everything will be resolved.

Ferut is my best friend. If she gets me out of this mess, I'll get a promotion, a raise, marry a rich and beautiful woman, and reach the pinnacle of life. She'll be the very tip of the iceberg.

"This is a very important matter. Come closer! You need to do this and that first, then do this and that next. You must get the code right before that old giant will let you in..."

"I see, I see!"

Green chattered away in Reinhardt's ear, and Reinhardt nodded repeatedly, not daring to miss a single detail.

Just as Reinhard was about to set off to find Felt, Green called him back again.

"Hey, wait a minute, Rhine."

"Mr. Green, is there anything else you wish to say?"

Green pondered for a moment, then said:

"This badge belongs to a half-elf. Remember to return it after you're done. Don't forget one of the chivalric codes: fairness. You don't belong to either side yet."

Reinhard nodded solemnly and replied:

"Thank you for your correction, Mr. Green. I swear on my knightly honor that this badge will be delivered to that sir intact."

The swordsman fluttered his cloak, made a graceful turn, and embarked on the journey to find the lost princess.

The other guards escorting Green were somewhat bewildered. The Sword Saint was gone; what were they, the little Karami, going to do?

"Captain, we think we've heard some very important information."

"Should we arrest him or not? This instigator probably has a close relationship with that princess."

"You believe what the agitator says?"

"Even the Sword Saint believes it!"

"That was terrifying, Captain! Am I even allowed to go home for dinner today?"

"What's the panic?! We guards must be impartial too! Yes, that's it! Take him back first, and wait for news from higher-ups."

……

A moment later, in the guard room of the royal prison.

Green and Otto sat facing each other at a square table, each holding a wine glass, lost in their own world of revelry.

After they took a big gulp, guards immediately poured them more.

Otto's face was already flushed from drinking, so he quickly cut off a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth to calm it down.

"Master Green, you're amazing! This isn't like being in jail; it's like being in a luxury hotel."

While sighing with satisfaction, Otto ate his meal, feeling quite content since he had eaten so well in a long time.

The reason for this situation is that the prison guards firmly believe that Green is a member of one of the Crown Prince's factions.

As for the crimes he committed, one of them was not having identification.

Upon closer reflection, it's highly likely that this is part of a secret mission where the identity cannot be revealed; an identification document can be provided later.

Secondly, he incited residents to create panic, which actually frightened many children. Of course, Green created too much panic, and the quantitative change has led to a qualitative change, which has begun to endanger the stability of the neighborhood.

Even if this crime is punished to the fullest extent of the law, it would only result in being expelled from the capital and sent to the border for labor reform.

These royal guards considered themselves to be insignificant figures.

If a supporter of the crown prince succeeds in ascending the throne, he will immediately become a close advisor to the emperor, so no one dares to offend him.

"Following you, Grandpa Green, how could I possibly let you down? *smack smack*"

Green pretended to be dead, but he didn't stop talking either; he had actually been hungry for quite a while.

"Waaah, okay Master Green, thanks to you so much! *smack smack*"

Otto was grateful and picked up a plate of pastries to start eating.

The guards nearby were astonished and murmured in amazement:

"These are two complete pigs!"

"Pig? Where's the pig? If you have one, bring it out! Give my brother Otto some real meat! Let me tell you, Otto, back in the day, your brother was a force to be reckoned with. I could devour a whole pig in three bites!"

Green was drunk and didn't hear clearly, unaware that someone was cursing at them.

"Keep your voice down, you bunch of idiots!"

"Captain, how long are we going to keep them locked up? At this rate, if we keep them locked up for a month, we'll all starve to death."

"Shut up, I've already reported it. It won't be long!"
