Lu Hao stood by the field, watching his father, dressed in official robes, and Tang Susu, who was simple yet neat and tidy, standing side by side on the ridge of the field, talking.

The two men, one an official and the other a commoner, one dignified and the other composed, were surprisingly harmonious standing together despite their vastly different social statuses, which stirred a strange feeling within him.

He recalled how his grandmother had always urged his father to remarry when she was alive, and how she had asked people to arrange marriages for him over the years, but he had secretly sabotaged and ruined them all.

But now, looking at Tang Susu, a thought quietly arose in his mind—it wouldn't be bad if Tang Susu could be his mother.

Yang Xiaobao skipped over and, upon seeing his red eyes, immediately laughed, "Brother Hao, were you crying just now? You crybaby!"

Lu Hao's face darkened, and he grabbed him, saying, "Don't talk nonsense. If you dare mention it again, I'll beat you up."

Yang Dagao quickly protected his younger brother, saying, "Don't bully him!"

Lu Hao turned around in a huff, plopped down on the stone roller, and ignored everyone.

Afraid that he would really get angry, Yang Xiaobao quickly took out a few hidden pears from his pocket and handed them over to appease him: "Brother Hao, I was wrong. Here, have some sweets. Don't be angry."

Lu Hao took it and ate it. It tasted sweet and refreshing, and his breathing improved a bit. He snorted and said, "From now on, you're not allowed to call me a crybaby. You have to call me Brother Hao."

Yang Xiaobao nodded hurriedly, "Brother Hao! Brother Hao!"

Lu Hao looked around, dismissed the others, and asked in a low voice, "Xiao Bao, don't you think my dad and Sister Su look quite good together?"

Yang Xiaobao tilted his head and thought for a moment: "He's pleasing to the eye, so what?"

"Do you want a father?" Lu Hao asked again. "I see you have a mother who dotes on you every day, I'm envious."

Yang Xiaobao was taken aback and didn't understand.

Lu Hao's thoughts were exposed, his ears turned red, and he forced himself to admit, "I...I want Sister Su Su to be my mother."

Yang Xiaobao's eyes widened, and he immediately shook his head: "No way! Sister Su is my aunt, she can't be your mother!"

Before the words were even finished, Yang Gousheng rushed over and blocked his way, his face tense: "Lu Hao, don't you dare lay a finger on my mother!"

The three of them froze for a moment, then turned to look at the ridge of the field at the same time.

The setting sun casts its rays on the paddy fields, making them shimmer. White geese and ducks swim leisurely in the fields. Tang Susu and Lord Lu stand among the rice paddies, speaking gently. The scene is quiet and beautiful.

The three brothers stared in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Lord Lu and Tang Susu had finalized the matter of the second crop of rice.

"A second crop of rice is indeed feasible," Lord Lu said in a deep voice. "I will go back and immediately issue an order to strictly prohibit villagers from cultivating the fields and turning over the stakes without authorization, and to make unified arrangements for topdressing and management."

He looked at Lu Hao and said, "I'll go back to the county government office first, and come back to pick you up in about ten days."

Lu Hao's eyes lit up, and he immediately pulled his father aside, asking seriously, "Dad, what do you think of Sister Su Su?"

Lord Lu, unsuspecting, nodded in admiration: "Miss Su is intelligent, decisive, and capable, unlike ordinary village women."

Lu Hao took a deep breath and said directly, "Dad, why don't you marry Sister Su Su as your stepmother?"

Lord Lu froze, stunned and speechless. His face flushed red, and he looked in a panic toward Tang Susu, his eyes darting around, unable to speak coherently.

Lu Hao became more and more serious as he spoke: "I used to oppose your remarriage because I was afraid that my stepmother would mistreat me. But Sister Su is different. She is a good person, kind-hearted, and good to me. She is also smart and capable, and can help you come up with ideas and achieve results."

He counted on his fingers: "She's only twenty-seven this year, three years younger than you. She's fair-skinned, beautiful, and has a great temperament. You won't find another one like her in the entire Yangqu Village."

Just as they were getting into the conversation, Old Lady Yang suddenly came over from the edge of the field. After hearing a few words, she smiled and chimed in, "Lord Lu, Su Su is indeed a capable and kind-hearted girl. Whoever marries her is truly blessed."

As she spoke, she handed over a basket of eggs: "These are twenty eggs collected by the villagers. Take them to nourish your body."

Lord Lu could no longer remain seated and hurriedly declined, saying, "No, no!"

He practically fled in panic, waving his hand at Clerk Liang and Registrar Yan: "Back to the county office!"

The group hurriedly got into the car and quickly drove away from the village.

As Old Lady Yang watched the carriage disappear into the distance, she sighed, "Lord Lu is truly honest and loves the people; he wouldn't accept even a single thing."

Lu Hao didn't give up. He turned around and ran to Tang Susu's side, looking up with a proud expression: "Sister Susu, my father is such a good person. He cares about the people, is responsible, and is an honest official. If you marry into the Lu family, you'll have a peaceful and worry-free life."
