Reversing Falsehood and Preserving Truth: All Gods and Gods Are in My Hands
Chapter 115 Outrageous Inquiry
The red and blue flashing lights of the police cars, like two frantic brushes, roughly painted over the ravaged battlefield at the foot of Shennong Mountain, a place still scarred by divine battles and the rampage of giant beasts.
Several police cars were parked crookedly on the edge of the scorched earth, their doors wide open. The blinding beams of flashlights swept across the scene like swords, finally fixing on the group of "suspicious individuals" in the center of the battlefield.
The scene before them was enough to make any experienced police officer's scalp tingle.
The ground looked as if it had been repeatedly turned over by a giant plow, covered with pits of varying depths and spiderweb-like cracks. Several scorched patches of land were still emitting pungent blue smoke, creating an eerie contrast with the abnormal ice layers and frost crystals covering some areas.
The surrounding trees were leaning and crooked, with strange burn or tear marks at the broken ends that didn't look like they were made by axe or knife. The air was filled with gunpowder smoke, burnt and bloody smells, as well as an indescribable, strange smell of sulfur mixed with rotting vegetation that made people's throats tighten.
Standing (or lying) in the center of these ruins were a group of men and women in various appearances, all dressed in rags, exhausted, and many bearing obvious wounds:
Shen Che, dressed in black, stood up straight with difficulty. The blood at the corner of his mouth was still wet, and his clothes were torn in several places, revealing faint abrasions underneath.
Han Bingshuo, an elderly man with white hair, leaned against a rock, panting heavily. His clothes had a large hole in the shoulder, revealing a wound covered with scabs.
Covered in blood and with his sportswear torn to shreds, Zhao Lei was trying to get up from the ground. He grimaced with every movement, clearly aggravating his internal injuries.
The quiet Su Wan was as pale as paper as she held the unconscious Lu Yu tightly, her fingertips turning white from the force.
Chen Mo, who was wearing glasses, slumped to the ground with a vacant look in his eyes. His glasses had slipped down to the tip of his nose, revealing a sense of bewilderment after surviving a disaster.
There were several other equally disheveled Watchers, some sitting, some leaning, all breathing heavily.
This combination, this scene, doesn't look like they're up to anything good.
"Don't move! Everyone, put your hands behind your heads and squat down!"
The officer in charge, Officer Wang, had dark skin and furrowed brows. He raised a megaphone and shouted sternly, his voice carrying an unquestionable authority.
The young police officers behind him gripped their pistols tightly, pointing them at the crowd as if facing a formidable enemy, their fingertips turning white from the force.
Fifteen minutes later...
The back seat of the police car was filled with the pungent smell of gasoline and old leather. Lu Yu was sandwiched between two police officers on either side.
He closed his eyes tightly, pressing his forehead against the cold car window, trying to alleviate the churning dizziness in his mind. It wasn't just weakness; it felt more like the aftershocks of two fragments of consciousness violently colliding and merging within his skull.
"Feng Hou..." A name silently passed through his heart, carrying an indescribable heaviness and confusion.
Officer Wang, in the passenger seat, glanced through the rearview mirror at the pale-faced, weak-breathing boy in the back seat. His brow furrowed even more. He picked up the walkie-talkie: "Command center, multiple injured people have been found at the scene. The situation is complex. Requesting medical assistance. Also, bring all those involved back to the station for detailed questioning! Question them separately!"
The interrogation room was brightly lit and the air was so thick it was suffocating; even breathing sounded unusually clear.
Officer Wang sat down opposite Shen Che, his fingers rhythmically tapping the table, making a "tap-tap" sound, as if testing the other man's psychological defenses: "Mr. Shen, right? You said you're a 'Special Geological Surveyor from the Land and Resources Bureau'?"
He picked up the photocopy of the identification document Shen Che had shown him earlier and examined it closely, his eyes sharp as knives. "Then, please explain in more detail what kind of 'surveying equipment' you used in the Shennong Mountain restricted area in the dead of night to cause such a commotion? Where is the equipment now? What about the reporting documents?"
Shen Che stood upright, expressionless, his tone calm yet deliberately aloof, as if uttering even a single extra word would be a waste: "Officer Wang, we are carrying out a classified exploration mission. The equipment is a portable, high-precision energy detection array. The data collected has been sealed and destroyed on-site according to procedure to prevent technology leakage. You will need to apply to a higher-level department for access to the relevant documents."
"An energy detection array? You're saying your detection caused a localized soil gas explosion?" Officer Wang leaned forward, his gaze fixed on Shen Che. "What kind of energy detection could create a crater over ten meters in diameter and scorch half a forest? Mr. Shen, your explanation is probably unconvincing, even to yourself."
In another interrogation room, Zhao Lei's voice could be faintly heard through the door, filled with a desperate, red-faced protest: "Officer, how many times have I told you! We're just a group of college students, starting a business! We're testing an 'immersive AR martial arts game'! Special effects, all special effects!"
Pointing to the photos of the crater shown by the police, he spoke animatedly, almost jumping out of his chair, "Technology is so advanced now! Do you understand holographic projection? Do you understand environmental interactive simulation? That crater is an explosion prop effect, and the charred tree is a lighting and smoke effect! That's the kind of realism we're aiming for, to immerse the players!"
The young female police officer taking notes couldn't help but interject, her pen hovering over the notebook: "And what about your injuries? They don't look fake."
Zhao Lei paused for a moment, then swung his hand wildly, the movement aggravating his injury. He winced in pain, gasped for breath, but still stubbornly insisted, "I fell! It's just a test, accidents happen all the time! Action scenes demand high skill; the running, jumping, and rolling are all real! This is called sacrificing for art, being dedicated!"
The female police officer and the older officer next to her exchanged a glance, both seeing the word "outrageous" in each other's eyes, and their lips twitched slightly involuntarily.
The room where Chen Mo was was much quieter.
He adjusted his glasses, which had slipped down to the tip of his nose, and answered the question with the calmness of delivering a scientific report, without the slightest ripple: "We are using a next-generation immersive entertainment system based on 'multi-spectrum environmental interactive simulation technology' and 'biodegradable biomaterial explosive units.' The phenomenon just now was caused by the third sequence of explosions detonating unplanned and synchronously due to algorithm redundancy, resulting in unexpected sound and light effects and ground disturbances. All technical details are protected by patents and involve trade secrets, so I cannot disclose more."
The officer in charge of the questioning frowned, trying to process the string of obscure technical terms, his fingertips unconsciously tapping the table: "Could a biological material explosion create that kind of crater? How do you explain the shockwave marks?"
Chen Mo remained unfazed, his eyes calm and undisturbed: "The specific material composition and explosion mode are also trade secrets. The shock wave parameters are within the expected range of our fluid dynamics simulations, and there are no technical loopholes."
Su Wan was gently questioned by a policewoman, but the questions were equally sharp.
She lowered her head, her hands nervously twisting together. Her psychic abilities allowed her to keenly sense the doubt and hidden concern in the questioner's tone.
Her voice was barely audible, carrying just the right amount of lingering fear and sincerity, her eyes slightly red: "We...we just wanted to do this startup project well, to create the most realistic effects...we didn't expect it to cause such a big commotion, disturb everyone, and cause such a huge misunderstanding...we're so sorry..."
With the aid of her psychic powers, her acting talent was brought to its fullest potential. Tears welled up in her eyes, crystal clear, making it hard to criticize her too much; one could only comfort this seemingly fragile girl.
Han Bingshuo simply closed his eyes to rest, leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms in front of his chest, and responded to all questions with "It involves confidential information, I cannot comment," his tone flat and without any emotional fluctuation.
This unyielding attitude only added to the mystery, leaving the questioning police officer at a loss for what to do, and he could only watch as the man angrily recorded "refusal to cooperate with questioning".
In each interrogation room, although the general direction of everyone's statements was "high-tech testing" or "business activities," the details were full of loopholes and contradictions.
Zhao Lei's description of "game effects" was as exaggerated as a science fiction blockbuster, Chen Mo's "technical principles" were as obscure as a celestial book, and Shen Che's "official background" and the other people's "civilian identities" were completely out of place, leading the inquiry into an absurd stalemate.
