Time Travel: My Comfortable Life After Going to the Countryside

Chapter 83 Let's Find Out His Background

Young Master Qian's fingers, gripping the gun, turned white from the force, and his knuckles trembled.

He stared intently into Liu Xiangyang's eyes, trying to find even the slightest fear or wavering, but all he saw was a bottomless calm and a kind of certainty that sent chills down his spine.

He had seen people who dared to risk their lives before, but this person in front of him was different—it wasn't the recklessness of a hothead, but a calmness honed from countless brushes with death, a calmness born of absolute self-confidence.

Cold sweat trickled down Qian Gongzi's temples, quickly freezing into fine ice crystals in the frigid air, sticking to his face, cold and hard.

He dared not pull the trigger. A voice inside him screamed madly, telling him that if he moved his finger, his own neck would likely be snapped first.

They remained frozen in place, with only the howling sound of the wind whistling across the ice.

After a long while, Young Master Qian's arm, gripping the gun, trembled slightly as the muzzle slowly lowered until it pointed at the ice. His voice was hoarse, as if rubbed with sandpaper: "You...who exactly are you?"

Liu Xiangyang didn't answer his question. He just glanced at the few people groaning on the ground, then looked at Chen Jie, whose face was pale and whose lips were trembling. Finally, he turned his gaze back to Young Master Qian's face, his tone calm but carrying an undeniable sense of oppression: "Take your men and get out."

He paused, his eyes as cold as ice: "Don't let me see you again, or you'll end up like this." Liu Xiangyang picked up an iron rod from the ground and bent it with both hands.

He stared intently at Liu Xiangyang for several seconds, as if trying to etch that face into his bones. He glanced at the bent iron rod, then said nothing, only gritting his teeth and growling at the two still-moving red armband-wearing men: "Go!"

The two men, feeling as if they had been granted a pardon, quickly dragged their still-movable companion from the ground and slid awkwardly toward the riverbank, soon disappearing into the crowd.

The ice rink was so quiet you could hear your own heartbeat.

Liu Xiangyang turned around, walked up to Chen Jie, and gently took her cold hand in his. Her hand was trembling uncontrollably, and her palms were covered in cold sweat.

"It's alright." His voice lowered, carrying a reassuring tone, and he squeezed her hand tightly, trying to transfer his warmth to her. "Let's go home."

Chen Jie looked at him, her lips trembling, and tears welled up unexpectedly. It wasn't because of fear, but because of an indescribable feeling—a sense of relief at surviving a disaster, a sense of security from being protected by him, and a bit of inexplicable dependence.

She nodded vigorously and gripped his hand tightly, as if it were the only warmth in this icy world.

Liu Xiangyang put his arm around her shoulder and slid her back as they turned around.

As soon as they got back inside and the door closed, Chen Jie turned around abruptly and tackled Liu Xiangyang onto the sofa.

Her breathing was rapid, her eyes were red, and her fingers frantically tried to tear at his buttons and belt. Her voice was trembling with a sob and a resolute determination: "Xiangyang, Xiangyang, I want to have your children, right now! Many, many children!"

Liu Xiangyang was taken aback at first, then realized that this was a manifestation of her extreme insecurity after being overly frightened.

He firmly grasped her hand, which was frantically tugging at the belt, with one hand, and with the other, he tightly embraced her, holding her firmly in his arms. He rested his chin lightly on the top of her disheveled hair and said with a hint of a joke.

"Don't rush, my dear, look at this room, the heating isn't on, it's like an icebox. Your man is afraid of the cold."

"Pfft"

Chen Jie's heart, which had been taut to the extreme, was gently plucked by his nonchalant words. She couldn't help but laugh, burying her face in his neck. But as she laughed, tears welled up in her eyes again.

That reckless impulse dissipated with that laugh, and his body went limp.

"Ugh, I was so worried, and you're still being sarcastic." She punched his shoulder with her fist before getting up, rubbing her eyes with her back to him, and then went over to turn on the heater, slowly dispelling the chill.

Her voice lowered, filled with deep worry: "Xiangyang, what should we do now? He's one of the leaders of the martial arts faction; it's only a matter of time before he finds us."

"I...I still want to have many, many children for you." She returned to the sofa, threw herself into Liu Xiangyang's arms and hugged him, saying in a muffled voice.

Liu Xiangyang leaned back on the sofa, gently stroking her back with his right hand, comforting her.

"Put your mind at ease." He said firmly, "Ice City is so big, with over a million people. Even if he is the leader of the martial arts faction, he doesn't really have all the power in the world. Right now, he's in the open, and we're in the dark. We should be afraid of him, understand?"

He paused, sat up straight, and looked into her watery eyes: "Listen to me, godmother. Tomorrow is Monday, go to work as usual, just pretend nothing happened, find someone you trust to quietly find out where this young master Qian's hideout is and where he usually hangs out."

"Don't look for people within the system. He was one of the leaders when Zhao Si was arrested last night. I suspect he and Zhao Si are fighting like dogs."

"What are you going to do?" Chen Jie's heart tightened.

"To be on the safe side, I'll first investigate his background and see if I can take him down through proper channels. If that doesn't work, then I'll..."

He grasped Chen Jie's cold hand, his voice lower but clear.

"Then I will come myself. I will absolutely not allow anything or anyone to threaten you, Godmother, in the slightest."

"Xiangyang, love me!"

Chen Jie stood up, and the clothes slid off one by one to the ground, piling up into a mountain of garments at her feet.

Liu Xiangyang sat on the sofa, watching her hands tremble as she unbuttoned her clothes one button at a time.

The kitchen, living room, sofa, dining table, and finally the bathroom—the whole house was a mess afterward.

"Don't do this again. It takes me a while to clean the house," Chen Jie said the next morning when she saw the mess in the house as she was getting ready to go to work.

"You're really wronging me. Yesterday it was clearly your godmother who..." Liu Xiangyang was about to finish speaking when she pounced on him and covered his mouth.

"You're not allowed to say it." Chen Jie's face flushed red.

Liu Xiangyang took her hand, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her luscious red lips. "Go and inquire about that young master Qian today. I'll also do some digging."

When Chen Jie arrived at work, she ran into several female colleagues with whom she usually had a decent relationship.

"Xiao Jie, what kind of magic potion did you take? Look at her skin!" Several female colleagues chattered around Chen Jie, asking her for beauty tips.

"No way, your skin is so good! Look at it, it's so supple you could squeeze water out of it."

"Hey, have you heard? There was an accident at the lumber mill the day before yesterday?" Chen Jie asked.

"I've heard about it too. My husband said it's related to the Wu faction. Apparently, they've fallen out," said female colleague A.

"Yes, my husband said there's a guy surnamed Qian who's too domineering," said female colleague B.

"Who is this person surnamed Qian?" Chen Jie asked calmly.
