Apocalypse: The White Moonlight Became a Possessive Mad Dog

Chapter 28 I slept for a very, very long time

Wang Jiafu was completely stunned; the development of events was far beyond his expectations.

But soon, intense pain completely overwhelmed his mind.

The city walls are teeming with zombies; this place will soon be swallowed up. The survivors who could run have already fled, and those who couldn't have nowhere to retreat.

As if venting their anger, they tore Wang Jiafu to pieces on the city wall, ripping open his chest and subjecting him to slow slicing, before finally throwing him into the zombie horde.

Wang Jiafu had no tongue, but he wanted to say that it was all Shen Chengyin's plan, that Shen Chengyin wanted everyone to perish with him. It was Shen Chengyin who triggered this zombie horde by detonating the concrete buildings outside the city.

It was Shen Chengyin who wanted everyone to die, not Wang Jiafu.

But he could only utter broken syllables in despair, dying in extreme pain and struggle.

The horde of corpses quickly surged and swallowed up Wang Jiafu, who was already a pile of rotten flesh.

Wang Jiafu never understood why, one after another, the people around him betrayed him until his death.

Tang Qiao was one of them, as were these superhumans he had once tried to curry favor with, and even the guards...

He never had the chance to understand.

……

Flames illuminated the sky as countless zombies poured in through breaches in the city walls. Hope Base had become a living hell.

Amidst hordes of ordinary zombies were a few low-level zombies. Even with massive heavy firepower, defeat was inevitable.

None of the superhumans and guards on the front lines survived; only a few unarmed ordinary survivors fled into the base's supply depot in a panic.

The warehouse was full of supplies, and dozens of people were huddled together, holding crude weapons and trembling as they warily watched the doorway.

They didn't even notice that someone was already sitting leisurely in the corner of the warehouse.

Seeing the fear on everyone's faces, Li Tiangan kindly reminded them, "Don't be afraid. If zombies could easily break into a granary, the base would have been destroyed eight hundred times over by now."

Upon hearing this, the group of elderly, weak, sick, and disabled finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Some people went to count the supplies, while others remained at the entrance.

Someone found something in the grain pile—a plastic bag containing a voice recorder and some papers.

The contents of the recording pen were evidence of the crimes committed by Wang Jiafu and Tang Qiao's group.

"This is evidence that Chief Shen was framed. If you all survive, you should know what to say to the outside world. We can't let our chief lose even a good reputation."

Li Tiangan recited Su Han's prepared lines verbatim, but he couldn't help feeling a little anxious.

According to the plan, Su Han and Shen Chengyin should now step down, gather at the granary, and finally evacuate the base.

Some people sobbed, some choked up.

"If it weren't for Wang Jiafu, how could the base have fallen to its current state?"

"That bastard! Chief Shen is his best friend, and he betrayed even his own brother. Wang Jiafu is not worthy of being called a human being!"

"It's a pity I don't have superpowers, otherwise I would definitely tear Wang Jiafu to pieces!"

Amidst the public outrage, Li Tiangan remained aloof, sitting by the door cleaning his gun.

Su Han is ruthless. Not only did she turn the entire base upside down, but she also made sure Wang Jiafu died with a bad reputation.

He was glad he hadn't chosen the wrong side, otherwise he would definitely be among the superhumans who died outside.

Blood flowed like rivers, and corpses were everywhere.

The night is long, and dawn will never break at the base.

……

Su Han regained consciousness when she was woken up by System 111.

Almost in despair, 111 repeated in Su Han's ear, "If you don't wake up soon, something really bad is going to happen! Dude, you're not going to sleep forever, are you?"

Su Han's head was throbbing with pain, and her mind was foggy. She was still trapped in the dream she had just had and could not break free.

He couldn't remember clearly, but in his mind, he seemed to be a sickly child in the world before he transmigrated into the book, and there were always a bunch of adults around him.

He frequently received injections and medications, and lived in an isolation ward. Through the thick glass, some people outside, whose faces were obscured, were asking him questions with concern.

But no sound could get in; his world was always quiet.

Su Han groggily opened her eyes, feeling a cool sensation on her forehead. A cool water bottle was placed on her head, relieving the burning heat in her body.

He seemed to hear Shen Chengyin sigh very softly.

"Awake?" Shen Chengyin asked.

Su Han wanted to answer, but her throat was too dry to speak. Finally, she made two muffled noises, and a stream of cool water flowed in through her lips.

He took two sips of water from the cup and looked around.

The space here is cramped, but clean and tidy; it must be a motorhome.

"Shen Chengyin, how is that intermediate-level zombie? Are you injured anywhere?" Su Han asked.

System 111 was frantic, yelling, "You still have the nerve to care about him?! You almost died yourself, do you even know that?!"

Shen Chengyin paused slightly. "It escaped. I'm fine."

The intermediate-level zombie was too fast; he didn't chase it.

Su Han breathed a sigh of relief.

"Where are we now?"

Judging from the light inside the vehicle, it's probably evening or early morning. In a few hours, they shouldn't be too far from Hope Base.

His plan was not yet finished, and he didn't know if Wang Jiafu and Tang Qiao were dead or alive.

Shen Chengyin took two loaves of bread out of his bag and placed them in front of Su Han. "We are currently about two thousand kilometers away from the Hope Base."

Su Han sprang up from the bed on the spot, his brain suddenly spinning with a fatal dizziness. His body went limp, and he was caught steadily in Shen Chengyin's arms.

The man gently stroked Su Han's head, and the discomfort and dizziness quickly disappeared.

"How is that possible? How long have I been asleep?!"

The system, exasperated, wrote: "[You were unconscious for a whole month! A whole month! If Shen Chengyin hadn't used his life-saving ability to keep you afloat, you would have died long ago!]"

A month?

Su Han raised her hand and touched her neck; it was smooth.

In his memory, he was no match for the mid-level zombie and seemed to have indeed taken a severe bite.

"Fever is a sign of awakening superpowers. Go to sleep and wait for the fever to subside."

Su Han was taken aback. "Superpowers...?"

It's been almost a year since the apocalypse began. Does he still have a chance to awaken his superpowers?

"He...you...sigh." The system hesitated, unsure whether it should tell Su Han about this.

Finally, he mumbled indistinctly, "[This is a chance Heaven has given you, so cherish it. Anyway, that mid-level zombie only appeared because of Shen Chengyin, so consider it something he owes you.]"

In the apocalypse, the levels of zombies are almost on par with those of superhumans.

The appearance of intermediate-level zombies indicates that intermediate-level superhumans have also emerged among superhumans.

Aside from Shen Chengyin, that freak, the system couldn't think of anyone else.

The system's words were cryptic, and Su Han hadn't yet grasped their meaning when she heard Shen Chengyin's calm voice ring in her ears:

"By the way, there's something I'm curious about."

"I don't think I've ever told you my name."
