Su Han kept her eyes fixed on the young man until he quietly left the mission hall.

He immediately found an excuse to leave with them.

"I'm a new superhuman, and I can't find anyone to take on missions with. Do you have any teammates? Should we team up?"

Su Han, ever the friendly type, stopped the young man.

The other person paused for a moment, then quickly concealed the sadness on their face.

"Sorry, I don't accept missions outside the city."

Su Han had a sudden, inexplicable guess.

"If you don't leave the city to search for supplies, you won't get any food. How could you possibly leave the city?" He shook his head. "If you're going to find a reason to refuse me, at least make one believable."

"No, no!" The young man was getting a little anxious. "I'm a water-type ability user, and the leader... the leader won't let me leave the city."

The water-type ability user is under special protection; he only needs to stay in the city to produce water.

Su Han stuffed two zombie crystal cores into his hand and then took out an empty mineral water bottle.

The young man understood what he meant and, without being stingy, reached out and grasped the empty bottle. A dozen seconds later, half a bottle of water swayed out of the bottle.

He wasn't lying; to be able to do that, one must at least have reached the level of a beginner-level superhuman.

It's much better than Wang Jiafu's few broken water droplets.

The two had just completed a transaction when two guards in combat uniforms came and took the young man away.

It's not wrong for such a talented person to be given special protection, but Su Han felt that the two guards were not only protecting him, but also monitoring him, when she saw the young man looking dejected.

He thought for a moment, then took the bottle of water back to the mission hall and deliberately bragged about it to the few thugs.

"Look, I just bought half a bottle of water from a water-type ability user."

The soldier raised his eyelids and glanced at him. "You mean Zhao Guang, right?"

"I don't know him, but he was just taken away by a few people."

"That's the person Chief Wang sent to protect him. He's the only strong water-type ability user in our base. He almost died during the last zombie siege. How can we not protect him properly?"

Su Han blinked. "Oh, so he's the water-type ability user our leader saved?"

Once Zhao Guang's identity was confirmed, things became much easier.

Su Han chatted with the people in the mission hall for a few more minutes, declined several teams' invitations, and leisurely went home.

Just kidding, he's keeping another man on the side right now. If he teams up with someone else, it'll be impossible to hide.

In the afternoon, under the pretext of going out of the city to collect supplies, he left the base with some food, drink and medicine and came to the small house where Shen Chengyin was hiding.

Shen Chengyin remained unconscious, and the water and food that Su Han had placed next to him remained untouched.

"When will the male lead wake up? He won't have gone crazy from the fever." Su Han touched Shen Chengyin's forehead.

The fever has subsided.

[Awakening one's superpowers usually takes at least two or three days, and with the male lead's power being so strong, it might take even longer.]

The system stammered and couldn't explain itself clearly.

Anyway, he's the male lead, so he's not going to die. You just need to complete the mission.

"Will I be able to return to my original world after completing the mission?" Su Han asked.

"Of course." The system replied decisively.

Several blurry white figures flashed through Su Han's mind.

He couldn't remember what his previous world was like, but it must have been happier and more joyful than the world he was in during the apocalypse.

Su Han became even more determined to complete the mission and return home.

He spent some more time feeding Shen Chengyin water and medicine, then left the food and departed.

On the way back to the base, Su Han passed by the leader's office building and saw a group of guards in black combat uniforms gathered downstairs, shouting something.

He deliberately leaned closer to listen, and asked a few other passersby who were also watching the commotion, before he realized that it was the guards of Hope Base causing trouble.

The guards and security personnel are the ones who work for the leader in the base. They are a group of people carefully selected by Shen Chengyin when he first established the base.

They rarely go out to search for supplies; their job is to maintain order at the base. Their food and clothing are provided by the base.

But in the past two days, they discovered that the food provided by the base was not only not fresh, but some of it had even spoiled.

This is something that has never happened before in the three months since the Hope Base was established.

Su Han sneered inwardly.

Without Shen Chengyin's space, the short-shelf-life foods that were stockpiled before the apocalypse would naturally spoil at an extremely fast pace.

The entire base couldn't consume such a large quantity of food in a short time, and Wang Jiafu was running out of options.

Spoiled food not only cannot be disposed of, but it will also contaminate other materials in the warehouse.

If Wang Jiafu wanted to continue to cover up the matter, he would try to dispose of the spoiled food.

Over the next few days, Su Han went out of the city during the day to take care of Shen Chengyin and search for supplies. After returning to the city at night, she had to keep a close eye on Wang Jiafu's men. She was so tired that she was dizzy and had dark circles under her eyes.

But he preferred to be alone from the moment he entered the base, and he didn't make many friends, so naturally no one cared about him.

Persistence pays off. After watching Wang Jiafu for nearly a week, Su Han finally saw two trucks leave the Hope Base warehouse with her own eyes.

Wang Jiafu was very cautious. He deliberately chose to do things at three or four in the morning when no one was around, and he also sent away the guards at the city gate.

It's estimated that because there was so much spoiled food piled up in the warehouse, the stench was probably unbearable. Wang Jiafu simply couldn't hide it any longer and had no choice but to move it out.

Su Han followed the two trucks at a distance, betting they wouldn't go too far.

There are zombies roaming outside, and the truck engines are too loud; going too far would be suicide.

Sure enough, ten minutes later, the two trucks stopped in a vacant wasteland near the Hope Base.

Four men in combat uniforms got off the truck, carrying shovels.

Two men buried themselves in the dirt, while two others unloaded the spoiled food from the truck.

They wanted to bury the spoiled food.

Su Han understood this, but she wasn't in a hurry.

There were only four of them; burying two truckloads of food in the pit was no easy task.

The four men worked tirelessly for half a day, until dawn broke. They knew they were running out of time, so they could only hastily bury half of it and haphazardly cover the other half with weeds.

Su Han followed them back to the base, and as expected, the guards at the gate had been transferred again.

That made things convenient for him, though.

Su Han sneaked out and came back without anyone noticing.

He rubbed his tired shoulders, preparing to get a good night's sleep and not go out to search for supplies today.

Anyway, Shen Chengyin hasn't woken up yet, and he hasn't eaten anything these past few days. The male lead won't die even if he misses a day.

As he was thinking this, he casually closed the door and was just about to lie down to rest when he heard shouting and yelling coming from the street:

"Grab him!"

"Don't let him get away!"

"Damn it, we lost them!"

It seems like a few guards are chasing someone.

Su Han wasn't interested in this matter; it had nothing to do with him anyway.

He locked the door, turned his head, and saw a tall figure standing silently behind him like a ghost.

Su Han was so scared he almost flew away.
