Chapter 70 You didn't even know to come find me
Weekend morning.
Chen Zhi yawned as he walked out of the bedroom, his eyelids feeling heavy.
Zhang Guifang was off work today, humming an unknown tune as she cleaned up the dishes in the kitchen.
Chen Jun sat at the table, focusing his efforts on a steaming bowl of tofu pudding.
"You're up?"
Chen Jun stuffed the last bite of the fried dough stick into his mouth and mumbled a greeting.
Chen Zhi pulled out a chair and sat down, then casually grabbed a fried dough stick and tore it in half.
"Dad, are you going to work today because it's the weekend?"
Chen Jun swallowed the food in his mouth and took a big gulp of soy milk.
"We have no choice but to go. A new leader recently arrived, and there are a lot of things for us to do."
He put down the bowl, rummaged in his pocket for a while, and frowned.
"Tsk, I can't remember where I put it again."
Chen Jun turned all the pockets inside out, and even stood up to pat his trouser legs.
Zhang Guifang poked her head out of the kitchen, holding a dishcloth in her hand.
"What are you looking for? Why are you making all that noise so early in the morning?"
"key."
Chen Jun scratched his head in frustration, "I came back too late yesterday and don't know where I put it. I can't find it anywhere."
He glanced at the clock on the wall, his expression somewhat anxious.
"There's no time to look for it, Chen Zhi. Give me your key, I'll go get a copy made on my way today."
Chen Zhi finished the fried dough stick in his hand in a few bites and took a tissue to wipe his hands.
"Okay, I'll go get it."
He got up and went back to his room, where he took out a bunch of keys with a little rabbit hanging from his desk drawer.
That was something Lin Wanwan had forced on him before; it was kind of ugly-cute, but he never took it off.
Back in the living room, Chen Zhi handed the key to Chen Jun.
"Thanks, son. I'll return it to you when I get back tonight."
Chen Jun took the keys, put them in his pocket, grabbed his briefcase from the entryway cabinet, and rushed out the door.
The security door slammed shut.
The room returned to silence.
Zhang Guifang was still busy in the kitchen when Chen Zhi stretched lazily, feeling bored.
The weekend I've been looking forward to is finally here.
At times like these, besides catching up on sleep, there's only one thing that can lift one's spirits.
Chen Zhi turned around and went back into his room, closing the door behind him.
I skillfully turned on the computer and double-clicked the icon.
As the familiar login music played, Chen Zhi put on his headphones and his fingers flew across the keyboard.
Enter the room, a biohazard pyramid.
Click the mouse to switch to the next screen.
Chen Zhi quickly got into the zone and began to outwit and outmaneuver Xiao Hong.
I don't know how much time has passed.
The doorknob was turned gently.
There was no knocking; the door slid open silently through the crack.
A slender figure slipped in.
Lin Wanwan wore a simple white T-shirt and light blue jeans, with her hair tied in a high ponytail, making her look exceptionally refreshing and neat.
She tiptoed up behind Chen Zhi.
On the screen, Chen Zhi was guarding the dog hole, hiding behind everyone else.
Lin Wanwan pouted.
She stretched out a finger and poked Chen Zhi's shoulder.
Chen Zhi didn't even turn his head; he just shook his shoulder and shook off the mischievous finger.
"Stop messing around, I'm playing games."
Lin Wanwan was unhappy.
She crossed her arms and looked down at the guy whose back was the only part of his head that was visible to her.
"Chen Zhi, stop playing games."
The girl's voice was clear and melodious, with a touch of naivety.
"We're going out to have fun! We finally get a day off, and you're just sitting here in front of this crappy computer?"
Chen Zhi stared at the screen, unleashing a hail of bullets at the Terminator.
"It's precisely because I finally have a day off that I want to play a little longer."
He replied matter-of-factly, "I don't have time to play during the school year, my skills have gotten rusty."
Lin Wanwan was furious.
Looking at Chen Zhi's unwavering demeanor, a nameless anger surged within her.
The atmosphere was so nice last night.
How come this guy has become this clueless, unyielding person again after waking up?
Her eyes darted around, and she suddenly bent down.
Two warm hands covered Chen Zhi's eyes directly.
My vision was instantly plunged into darkness.
The ghost's howl came through the headphones; I've been captured.
"Lin Wanwan!"
Chen Zhi cried out helplessly, grabbed the wrists covering his eyes with both hands, and gently pulled.
Lin Wanwan's strength was no match for his.
His hand was easily pulled open, and his vision was restored.
Looking at himself, who was just two people away from becoming a Ghost Hunter, he felt somewhat helpless.
Chen Zhi turned his head, about to say a few words of criticism, but found that Lin Wanwan had no intention of giving up at all.
She pulled over a chair and plopped down in it.
Instead of sitting next to him, he dragged his chair directly between Chen Zhi and the computer screen.
"you……"
Chen Zhi looked at the girl blocking his way and felt both amused and exasperated.
"It's blocking my view of the screen."
"That's exactly what I want you to be able to see."
Lin Wanwan raised her chin, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes wide open, staring intently at Chen Zhi.
The distance between the two was only a few tens of centimeters.
Chen Zhi could even see the fine downy hairs on her face, and the cheeks that were slightly puffed up because she was angry.
The air seemed to freeze for a few seconds.
The only sound in the room was the hum of the main unit's fan.
Lin Wanwan didn't say anything, she just stared at him.
There wasn't much emotion in his eyes; they were pure and persistent, like a clear spring.
It contains no impurities.
But it is more damaging than any words.
Under the gaze of those eyes, Chen Zhi was momentarily at a loss for words.
This silent standoff lasted less than half a minute.
Chen Zhi was the first to be defeated.
He awkwardly shifted his gaze to the bookshelf next to him.
"Fine, fine, I give up."
Chen Zhi raised his hands in surrender, "I admit defeat."
Upon seeing this, Lin Wanwan's tense expression instantly crumbled.
She proudly raised her chin.
"It's good that you know how powerful it is."
She reached out and grabbed Chen Zhi's arm, pulling him away.
"Get up quickly, change your clothes and go out."
Chen Zhi remained completely still, his buttocks seemingly glued to the chair.
He pointed to the still-ongoing battle on the screen.
"A person should finish what they start; let's finish this game first."
Seeing that Lin Wanwan was about to glare at him again, Chen Zhi quickly added:
"Just this one round, three minutes left. After this round, you can go wherever you want."
Lin Wanwan looked at him suspiciously.
"real?"
"More real than real gold."
Chen Zhixin made a solemn vow.
Lin Wanwan snorted and released her grip.
She moved her chair to the side so it was no longer blocking the screen, but she didn't leave.
The girl rested her chin on one hand, turned to the side, and quietly watched Chen Zhi operate.
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting a golden glow on her profile.
She couldn't actually understand the fluctuating data and kill notifications on the screen.
I don't understand why a few people running around with guns is so fun.
But she liked seeing Chen Zhi focused.
At this moment, Chen Zhi had a youthful sharpness between his brows, and his long, nimble fingers made rhythmic sounds as he typed on the keyboard.
As Lin Wanwan watched, a faint smile unconsciously appeared on the corner of her mouth.
As long as he's around, nothing seems boring.
Chen Zhi was in excellent form, perhaps because there was a "supervisor" sitting next to him. His movements were sharper than usual as he wielded his twin swords to slash at the ghosts.
As the game ended.
Chen Zhi took off his headphones and let out a long sigh of relief.
He turned around and met Lin Wanwan's eyes, which hadn't yet recovered from their smile.
"Finished?"
Lin Wanwan blinked, quickly wiping away her infatuated expression and replacing it with an urging one.
"It's over."
Chen Zhi turned off the game, stood up, and stretched.
"Let's go, Miss Lin. We'll do as you say today."
He casually grabbed his coat from the back of the chair and draped it over his shoulder, looking completely submissive.
"Where should we go for fun?"
Lin Wanwan was stunned for a moment.
She was so focused on pulling Chen Zhi away from the computer that she hadn't even thought about a specific destination.
"Well……"
She bit her lip, her fingers unconsciously twirling the ends of her hair.
"have no idea."
Chen Zhi almost choked.
He laughed in exasperation and lightly flicked Lin Wanwan's smooth forehead.
"You don't know? Are you kidding me?"
"So you barged into my room first thing in the morning, forced me to log off, and didn't even know where I was going to play?"
Lin Wanwan covered her forehead and retorted confidently:
"That's all your fault!"
"My parents went out to work early this morning, and I'm all alone at home with no one to talk to."
She became more and more aggrieved as she spoke, and her voice softened.
"I'm practically moldy from staying at home all the time, and you're right next door, but you never even bother to come and visit me."
"I had to come and invite you, and you kept making excuses."
Looking at her downtrodden expression, Chen Zhi's helplessness had long since vanished.
Aunt Lin Jing and Uncle Lin are usually busy with their business, so although Lin Wanwan has a good standard of living, she is often home alone.
He sighed, put on his coat, and zipped it up.
"Alright, stop playing the victim. I didn't say I wasn't going."
Chen Zhi walked to the window and glanced downstairs.
In the community garden, several sparrows hopped around on the lawn.
"Since we don't know where to go."
He turned to look at Lin Wanwan, "Then let's go walk Xiaobai."
Upon hearing the name "Xiaobai," Lin Wanwan's eyes lit up instantly.
The grievance I felt earlier vanished instantly.
"Walk!"
She jumped up excitedly and pushed Chen Zhi by the back to walk out.
Chen Zhi stumbled as she pushed him, muttering:
"Wait a minute, you haven't changed your shoes yet. Are you going to walk the dog or me?"
"Let's all run! Let's all run!"
The girl's cheerful laughter echoed in the hallway, startling the sparrows resting outside the window.
