Obsessive Young Master Wei: My Beloved Loses Control Every Night
Chapter 22 Young Master... will he feel uncomfortable?
She practically jogged the distance from the activity room to her own room.
We can't keep the young master waiting too long.
There was a small pot of vibrant green mint growing on her windowsill.
My gaze swept across the corner.
A lightweight wooden drawing board, a box of Winsor & Newton watercolor paints that is mostly used up, a brush washer, and a stack of watercolor paper.
She deftly gathered them into her arms.
As she moved, her gaze fell upon the white storage cabinet against the wall.
A thought flashed through my mind.
The stone steps and wooden chairs in the garden, perhaps still damp with morning dew at this time of year, would feel cool to sit on even after being exposed to the sun.
Young Master... will he feel uncomfortable?
This thought prompted her to crouch down and open the locker door.
It contained some old painting tools and miscellaneous items.
She fumbled around for a moment, her fingertips touching a neatly folded piece of cotton cloth.
Pulling it out, I found a cream-colored picnic mat that looked quite new.
She brought the mat to her face and unconsciously rubbed it against her cheek. The fabric was soft and carried the clean scent of soap and sun-dried ingredients.
"Very good," she thought to herself, "this way, the young master should be more comfortable."
When she carried this pile of things back to the activity room, the sparrow in her chest finally calmed down a little.
Wei Zixian had already closed the bird guidebook.
He stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, the afternoon sunlight streaming in from his side and behind, outlining his tall figure with a blurred golden edge.
Outside the window, the garden was so bright it seemed unreal.
"Young Master, I'm ready. Let's go," Bian Zhizhi said softly.
Wei Zixian turned around, his gaze sweeping over the painting supplies in her arms before finally settling on the incongruous off-white picnic mat.
His gaze lingered for a full two seconds.
Bian Zhizhi's heart skipped a beat, worried that he would think it was unnecessary or that he would see through her overly cautious thoughts.
But he didn't ask anything.
Without questioning or expressing any opinion, he simply walked silently to her side, maintaining a safe distance of about one step, and followed her toward the door of the activity room.
This silent acquiescence allowed Bian Zhizhi to quietly breathe a sigh of relief.
With a creak, the door to the main building was pushed open by Bian Zhizhi.
The sounds and smells from the outside world instantly enveloped them.
The birdsong was no longer a muffled sound through a pane of glass, but rather a cacophony of birdsong rushing into my ears.
Nearby, sparrows chirped, while in the distance, unidentified birds sang sweetly.
The moment she stepped out the door, all of Bian Zhizhi's senses were focused on the figure beside her.
Bian Zhizhi felt the figure beside her freeze.
Wei Zixian's steps faltered for a moment.
He abruptly stopped, his jawline tightening sharply, and his already pale skin appeared almost fragile under the bright light.
He squinted, his eyelashes fluttering a few times.
This overly rich world clearly overwhelmed him.
Bian Zhizhi's heart clenched slightly.
She immediately slowed her pace and subtly moved half a step closer to him, almost standing shoulder to shoulder with him.
She could faintly smell his scent, a mixture of cedar and old books, distinct from the sweet fragrance of flowers in the garden.
"Young Master, the weather is really nice today. Look at that clump of begonias over there, aren't their colors much more vibrant than when we see them through the glass indoors?"
She pointed to the meticulously tended flowerbed not far away.
There, a vast expanse of magenta begonias bloomed in a magnificent display, their petals layered upon each other, their color so rich and vibrant in the afternoon sun that it seemed almost to flow.
Wei Zixian's gaze followed the direction of her fingertip, fixing on that intense, almost unreal color.
He was somewhat lost in thought, and his taut shoulders relaxed considerably.
Bian Zhizhi did not choose a place too far from the main building, but stopped under the shade of a tall ginkgo tree not far from the window of the activity room.
The location is secluded, the thick tree trunks require two people to encircle, and the golden canopy is like a giant umbrella, making the sunlight filtering down gentle.
Here you can feel the warmth of the sun and the sense of security of being sheltered.
She spread the picnic mat out on the dry grass, smoothed out the wrinkles with her palm, and then patted the center of the mat.
She tilted her head back and smiled at Wei Zixian, who was standing at the edge of the mat.
"Young master, please sit here. The air on the grass is quite cool this time of year, so sitting directly on it might be a bit damp."
This is a key point of observation.
What will he choose?
As is most of the time in the activity room, I keep as far away from her as possible, preferring to sit on the grass or stand far away.
still is……
Wei Zixian stood at the edge of the mat, looking down at the off-white area as if it were a trap that needed careful evaluation.
His gaze swept across the cushion for a moment, then swept over the spot where Bian Zhizhi had already sat down and started arranging her art supplies.
Finally, after a brief hesitation, he chose to sit down sideways about an arm's length away from her.
This distance is much closer than they are in the activity room most of the time.
Moreover, it was the first time he had voluntarily chosen to sit in the "shared space" next to her.
Instead of turning his back to her or keeping his distance as usual, he chose an angle that allowed him to observe the garden view while also being able to see her movements out of the corner of his eye.
This stirred another flutter in Bian Zhizhi's heart.
She quickly lowered her head, pretending to focus on squeezing out the paint, squeezing a tube of lemon yellow into the palette, but the corners of her mouth involuntarily turned up slightly, revealing her inner joy.
This is a breakthrough, a small but significant step forward.
"I want to draw the outline of that clump of begonias and the ginkgo tree behind it."
As Bian Zhizhi dipped her paintbrush in water and slowly dissolved the paint, she seemed to be talking to herself.
"Autumn has the most rich layers of color... too many to count."
She began to write, first gently wetting the paper with water, then using a very light ochre color to outline the blurry silhouette of the ginkgo tree in the distance.
Wei Zixian neither read the book nor watched her paint.
He just sat there quietly, his gaze seemingly unfocused as he stared at the flowerbed in the distance, as if he were in a daze.
But based on her observations over this period of time, Bian Zhizhi could sense that he was not completely closed off.
But occasionally, his gaze would fall on her paintbrush, which had become colorful after she dipped it in paint, or on her slightly pursed lips.
Why was he so concerned about Bian Zhizhi? Actually, he himself wasn't quite sure.
He wasn't sure what he was thinking, but he felt at ease wherever Bian Zhizhi was.
What exactly does this mean?
As the evening breeze rustled through the tall tree canopy, a few early yellow ginkgo leaves twirled and drifted down.
One of the pieces landed precisely on the shoulder of his dark gray sweater.
Bian Zhizhi saw the leaf and it landed on him.
Her heart skipped a beat.
The ironclad rule of "no uninitiated physical contact" echoed in my mind.
But... that leaf was there, so out of place.
