Just as he was about to sit down, his terminal vibrated. Xie Linyu, slightly annoyed by the sudden interruption, frowned slightly and said, "You eat first, I'll take a voice call."

"Go ahead, I'll wait for you." Lu Yao waved to him, signaling him to hurry up and not delay his work.

Xie Linyu gently patted her shoulder, turned around and walked to a relatively quiet corner outside the store, where he answered the voice call.

Lu Yao picked up a small spoon, scooped a bite of strawberry cake and put it in her mouth. The cream was smooth and the strawberries were sweet, which made her feel happy.

She ate while gazing aimlessly out the window.

Just then, at the alleyway across the street, there was a kitten with black and white fur that shone healthily in the sunlight. It looked to be about three or four months old, round and chubby, like a little ball of fluff.

Lu Yao's gaze was drawn to it, and the corners of her lips unconsciously turned up.

But soon, her smile froze.

A stray dog, several times larger than the kitten, suddenly darted out from the depths of the alley and charged straight at it.

The kitten bristled in terror, let out a sharp cry, and turned to run into the alley.
