She looked up at Zhou Jinlu, and her eyes met his as he slowly opened them.

Those light brown eyes, still hazy and weak from just waking up, gradually focused and smiled the moment they met her.

"You're awake?" she asked softly. "Is anything bothering you? Should I call the doctor?"

Zhou Jinlu gently shook his head, his gaze remaining fixed on her face, as if to confirm that this was not an illusion.

"You've come," he said, his voice muffled by the breathing mask.

Lu Yao nodded: "Yes, I came to see you. Take good care of yourself and don't think too much. Your father has been watching over you outside; he's very worried about you."

Zhou Jinlu nodded gently, lightly rubbed his fingers against her palm, and then released them.

Lu Yao stood up and helped him tuck the blanket in.

"I'll head out now," she said. "You get some rest."

Outside the ICU, Zhou Ji'an and Xie Linyu were waiting for her.

Upon seeing her come out, Zhou Ji'an hurriedly went to greet her, his eyes filled with nervousness and anticipation.

"Miss Lu Yao, Jinlu..."

"He's awake." Lu Yao smiled slightly. "He's fully conscious and should be alright. Patriarch Zhou, you can go in and check on him."

Zhou Ji'an's eyes reddened slightly, and he nodded repeatedly, "Good, good, it's good that you're awake, it's good that you're awake, thank you so much, Miss Lu Yao, thank you!"

After he finished speaking, he couldn't wait to change into his protective suit, push open the door to the intensive care unit, and then the doctors entered one after another.

Xie Linyu reached out and put his arm around her shoulder.

"Go home, or wait a little longer?" he asked.

"Wait a little longer and see if his condition improves." Since she was already here, she wanted to fully confirm Zhou Jinlu's condition before going back, so as not to worry about this matter again when she returned.

Although Xie Linyu didn't care about Zhou Jinlu's life or death, he knew what Lu Yao was thinking. He didn't say much and quietly stayed with her.

He also wanted to end this matter once and for all, so that Zhou Jinlu wouldn't keep using it as an excuse to make trouble.

He's been through it all, so he naturally understands what men are thinking.

Soon, the doctor who examined Zhou Jinlu came out of the intensive care unit.

Behind him was a middle-aged man with a gentle demeanor and thin-rimmed glasses. The two walked towards Lu Yao one after the other.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Lu Yao?" The middle-aged man wearing thin-rimmed glasses spoke first, his voice gentle and polite.

"Yes, that's me." Lu Yao nodded, her gaze sweeping over the two faces. "How is President Zhou doing?"

The attending physician smiled and replied, "He's stabilized and recovering faster than expected. It's all thanks to your visit that he's been able to get out of danger so quickly; your help was crucial."

"It wasn't me..." Lu Yao tried to say something, but was interrupted by the attending physician.

"You don't need to be modest, we are all aware of Mr. Zhou's physical condition." After saying that, the attending physician turned to the middle-aged man next to him and introduced, "This is Mr. Zhou's psychologist, Fang Huai. Dr. Fang, he has a few words to say to you."

Fang Huai stepped forward and nodded slightly to Lu Yao: "Miss Lu Yao, I apologize for bothering you. I know that you and Jin Lu are just friends, and it may be a bit abrupt to talk to you about these things, but I would like to ask you for a favor regarding President Zhou's situation."

Lu Yao was slightly taken aback and subconsciously looked at Xie Linyu.

Xie Linyu frowned slightly, tightening his grip on her shoulder a little, but did not stop her, simply standing quietly beside her.

"Please speak, Dr. Fang," Lu Yao said, turning her gaze away from Fang Huai.

Fang Huai sighed softly, his gaze falling on Zhou Jinlu through the glass window of the intensive care unit.

"Miss Lu Yao should be aware of Jin Lu's situation. He has a severe psychological aversion to women, which has troubled him for many years."

Lu Yao nodded without interrupting.

"As his psychologist, I have tried many methods over the years, including medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, desensitization training, and so on. He has been quite cooperative throughout the process. However, there is one thing that he is unwilling to mention and finds it difficult to let his guard down. It is about his mother, which you may not know," Fang Huai paused, as if searching for the right expression, "His mother has always regarded him as a stain, simply because he is a boy."

"His mother was an extreme feminist who believed that only by giving birth to a girl could she establish her status as a woman. Giving birth to a boy was a stain on her reputation. From a young age, Jinlu was cursed and despised by her. She even forbade him to reveal his mother's identity and name in public, and he was not allowed to appear in front of others with her at the same time."

"She raised Jinlu like this for five years, not to take care of him, but to make him realize how unworthy he was as a boy. By the time Mr. Zhou found out, it was too late. Over the years, as his psychologist, I have tried many ways to hope that he could reveal what happened during those five years, but he was very resistant to it. He would even have a stress reaction if he mentioned his mother too many times."

"His misogyny stems from this reason. His rejection of his mother escalated into a rejection of all women. His allergic reaction is a way of protecting himself, but this method also causes him great harm. Over the years, he has been undergoing desensitization therapy, but with little effect. Ms. Lu Yao, you may not believe it, but you are the first woman he can get along with normally in all these years, without any discomfort. You are like a salvation to him."

After Fang Huai finished speaking, his gaze fell earnestly on Lu Yao's face.

Lu Yao remained silent; she truly did not know any of this.

In front of her, Zhou Jinlu always appeared calm and composed, always strategizing and composed. Even when he occasionally showed affection for her, he was always restrained and polite, rarely overstepping his bounds.

She never imagined that he had such a terrible childhood.

She was seen as a stain by her own mother, cursed, disliked, and hidden away for five years.

Children under five years old should be cherished and loved, but instead they suffer from malice from those closest to them.

"Miss Lu Yao," Fang Huai's tone became earnest, "I'm not trying to morally blackmail you, nor am I trying to gain sympathy by using these past events. I just want you to understand that Jin Lu trusts you a lot, and if possible, I hope you can help him."

"Even an authoritative psychologist like you can't cure him. Isn't it a bit unrealistic to entrust him to us?" Xie Linyu said sarcastically.

"Mr. Xie is right. So I just hope that Ms. Lu Yao can spend some time with him during each of his psychotherapy sessions in Jinlu. There's nothing I need to do. I think with Ms. Lu Yao there, he might try to let down his guard, open up, and talk about the past. As long as he's willing to talk about it, I'm confident I can cure him."

Lu Yao met Fang Huai's hopeful gaze and was slightly moved: "Is this all there is to it?"
