Chapter 72 Willing to Stay and Test the Drug
The entire estate is adorned with white roses, some in full bloom and others still budding, exuding a delicate fragrance that is truly breathtaking.
Chris suppressed the bitterness in his heart and his lips moved slightly.
It seemed like he wanted to say something, but it ultimately turned into a sigh of praise.
"It's clear that a lot of thought went into the wedding setup."
The receptionist smiled broadly, "Of course, this is Lord Gaia's wedding!"
His voice revealed an undisguised excitement.
Paparo reacted quickly and steadied the swaying Admiral Chris.
He gently comforted him, "Brother, you already have the best in the world. You don't need to envy any insects at all."
He was indignant. Growing so many white roses was no easy feat; these must all be fake.
Upon hearing Paparo's words, the two receptionists exchanged a smile, clearly thinking the brothers were somewhat naive and ignorant.
They didn't dwell on it much, because in their eyes the other party was just a dead body.
The receptionist handed the two brothers over to the robotic insect at the door, bowed politely to them, and then respectfully withdrew.
Paparo suddenly reached out and grabbed the sleeve of one of the receptionists.
He asked, puzzled, "Aren't you coming in with us?"
The receptionist looked slightly embarrassed, but quickly regained her serious expression.
"Sorry, our level is not high enough; we are not qualified to enter."
Paparo first looked at the dark, metallic mechanical bug, then turned his gaze to the host, seemingly deep in thought.
After a long while, he finally let go, muttering to himself, "Lord Gaia's taste is truly unique..."
"Rosso, shut up!"
Chris glared at Paparo, his face full of anger.
The manor is teeming with robotic insects; nothing escapes their surveillance.
And right now, their owners might be watching the surveillance video.
He paused for a moment, trying to make his expression look more energetic.
He said to the robot, "Could you take us to see Dr. Neffie?"
The robotic insect deftly turned its head and replied in a mechanical voice, "Okay, please follow me."
Chris smiled and thanked him, then, supported by Paparo, followed behind the robot bug.
When he entered the palace, it was as if the whole world had darkened.
The palace is magnificent on the outside, but unusually gloomy inside.
The black curtains blocked out the light, making the whole room dark and oppressive, as if even the air had become heavy, making it hard for the insects to breathe.
Chris secretly worried for the master, thinking that it would be difficult for him to be happy living in such a repressive environment.
Meanwhile, Paparo, standing next to him, seemed quite excited. Like a curious cub, he looked around, showing great interest in everything around him.
However, as always, he couldn't help but mutter under his breath.
"Is this really where insects live? Anyone who didn't know better would think this is a haunted house..."
"Oh? Is that so?"
A cold voice interrupted Paparo's rant.
Chris looked up and saw a dark figure sitting on the red sofa.
Judging from his physique and demeanor, this person should be Gaia's right-hand man and behind-the-scenes strategist, Patin.
He instinctively shielded Paparo behind him, saying, "My brother is young and doesn't know any better. If you have any problems, come at me."
Patin remained expressionless, his gaze sweeping over them several times.
He stubbed out his cigarette, a seemingly casual smile playing on his lips.
"Do you know why we called you here?"
"have no idea."
Chris's body was a little stiff, and he slowly shook his head, his movements appearing somewhat wooden.
Saying just these few words was already his limit.
His body began to tremble slightly, and he leaned against Paparo as if he might collapse at any moment.
"The receptionist said that Dr. Neffie sent us."
Paparo quickly interjected, his tone revealing a hint of urgency.
His eyes felt slightly warm, and tears welled up in them.
"My brother is very ill. Please, please let us see Dr. Neffie."
Patin's eyes were cold as he raised his hand to stroke his stubble-covered cheek.
After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, "Your name is Nick? Would you be willing to test the medicine on Lord Gaia?"
"no."
Paparo refused without hesitation.
Almost simultaneously, Chris replied in a hoarse voice, "I do."
He hurriedly added, "I'm the older brother, listen to me."
"I can listen to you on everything else, but not on this one thing."
Paparo's tone was unusually firm, leaving no room for negotiation.
Without a word, he squatted down and carried Chris on his back.
Just as he was about to leave, he found a row of robotic insects blocking his way.
He stopped in his tracks, a surge of intense dissatisfaction and anger welling up inside him.
He suddenly turned his head and glared angrily at the insect behind him.
They shouted, "We are unwilling to participate in the drug trials. I trust Chief Gaia; he would never force his people to do such a thing!"
Patin's eyes were sinister, and his whole being exuded a cold and ruthless aura.
"Either stay and participate in the drug trials, or you face certain death."
Faced with Patin's threat, Paparo did not hesitate to retaliate.
"Of course I choose to leave!"
Before he finished speaking, he released his mental power, instantly knocking the mechanical insect in front of him away.
Immediately afterwards, he turned around quickly, carried General Chris on his back, and ran towards the door.
Just as they were about to reach the door, suddenly, an energy net fell down without warning.
The energy net rapidly contracted, enveloping them and tightening its grip, making it impossible for them to escape.
Paparo's face turned pale instantly, and he was filled with panic.
Realizing they were in dire straits, General Chris's life was also in danger.
At this critical moment, he roared.
"I'm willing to stay and test the drug, please let my brother go."
Patin, annoyed by the noise, waved his hand impatiently.
"Lock them up, and remember to send them food every day so they don't starve to death."
"Who dared to offend our boss, Patin? Drag him away, chop him up, and feed him to my beloved pet."
Robin walked straight to the sofa opposite Padding and sat down, crossing his long legs with an elegant and casual air.
That handsome face exuded a cold and aloof aura that made insects hesitant to approach.
His bronze skin glowed with a healthy sheen, his nose was high and straight, and his lips were slightly upturned, forming a faint smile.
His crimson eyes were cold and bloodthirsty, and his long purple hair cascaded down his shoulders like a waterfall, swaying gently with his movements.
He had a great figure after taking off his suit jacket, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and clearly visible muscle lines through his black shirt.
Padding snorted coldly.
He warned, "Robin, don't do anything reckless. Keep them alive; I still have a use for them."
"Sigh, I guess I'm getting old and useless!"
Robin's smile didn't disappear; instead, it became even more unrestrained and indulgent.
