"I've already had it handled," Pei Yanzhou's eyes turned cold. "The police checked the surveillance footage; that car deliberately hit you. The driver has been arrested."

"Intentionally?" Shu Hua was startled. "Why?"

She rarely makes enemies and is too lazy to go out and socialize, so she shouldn't know any other people.

"The investigation is still ongoing." Pei Yanzhou hugged her tighter. "Don't worry, I'll find out the truth. Just rest well at the hospital these next few days. I've asked for leave for you at the company."

"But my project..."

"Is the project more important or your health?" Pei Yanzhou interrupted her. "Listen to me."

Seeing his serious expression, Shu Hua obediently nodded, "Oh..."

Shu Hua only managed to drink a little at noon and in the evening. If she ate too much, she would feel nauseous and want to vomit, and she couldn't eat anything at all. She also had a headache.

After dinner, I took another nap in a daze, but I slept very restlessly.

In her dream, it was the car accident again. The scene shifted, and she found herself running through a misty forest, surrounded by empty space and dark red bloodstains on the ground. She tried to scream, but no sound came out; she could only run forward desperately.

Then, she saw Pei Yanzhou's back.

She called out to him with all her might, but she couldn't catch up. He reached out, trying to grab him. But just as he was about to touch the hem of his clothes, his figure vanished into the mist.

In the ward, Pei Yanzhou was sitting on the sofa working.

His laptop screen was lit up, displaying follow-up documents from New York regarding the acquisition. He rubbed his temples and glanced at the time—8:20 PM.

His gaze unconsciously drifted toward the hospital bed.

Shu Hua slept restlessly, her brows furrowed. She lay on her side, one hand unconsciously gripping the corner of the blanket, her fingertips turning white.

Pei Yanzhou's heart tightened.

Just as he was about to get up to check, he heard a few very soft sobs.

He immediately put down his computer and hurried to the bedside. Under the light, tears streamed down Shu Hua's face, her little face scrunched up.

"Shu Hua?" He sat down beside the bed and gently patted her shoulder. "Wake up, had a nightmare?"

Shu Hua did not react; she remained trapped in the nightmare, her body trembling slightly.

"Shu Hua?" he called twice more, his voice even softer, "Wake up."

Shu Hua's eyelashes trembled, and she slowly opened her eyes.

Her gaze slowly focused, meeting his worried eyes. The next second, she burst into tears, threw herself into his arms, and hugged his neck tightly.

"Pei Yanzhou..." she sobbed, her voice trembling, "I'm so scared..."

Pei Yanzhou picked her up and held her on his lap like a child, supporting her back with one hand and patting her gently with the other.

"It's alright, it was all a dream, it's fake."

"But it feels so real..." Shu Hua buried her face in the crook of his neck. "I kept running, there was blood everywhere... I wanted to call out to you, but I couldn't..."

She cried uncontrollably, her fingers gripping the front of her clothes tightly, as if he would disappear if she let go.

Pei Yanzhou was heartbroken.

Before the business trip, she was still that delicate and lively young girl who would pout if he forced her to eat more, and would act coquettishly towards him over the smallest things. But now, nestled in his arms, she was as fragile as porcelain that could shatter at the slightest touch.

"I'm here," he said, lowering his head to touch the top of her head, his voice incredibly gentle, "I won't let you get hurt again."

He patted her back gently, patiently waiting for her to finish crying.

After a while, Shu Hua's crying gradually subsided. She raised her head, her eyes red and swollen, the tip of her nose also red, looking at him pitifully.

"Could you..." she sniffled, her voice still trembling with tears, "stay with me for a while? I'm too scared to sleep alone..."

She was really scared.

She was afraid that if she closed her eyes, those terrible images would reappear. But she was really tired, her head was throbbing, and her body needed rest.

Pei Yanzhou cupped her face in his hands and gently wiped away her tears with his fingertips. Then he took a tissue from the bedside table and carefully wiped her face.

"Okay," he replied softly, then kissed her forehead again. "I'll go take a shower first, then I'll be right back to you."

"No." Shu Hua grabbed his sleeve, her voice still trembling with tears. "Stay with me now, I won't mind."

She is currently extremely insecure and feels uneasy even if they are separated for just a few minutes.

As she spoke, she moved to the side, making room for half of the bed, and looked at him expectantly.

Seeing her like this, Pei Yanzhou's heart melted completely, and he couldn't possibly refuse.

The bed wasn't big, and the two of them sat very close together.

Pei Yanzhou turned to the side and pulled her into his arms. Shu Hua immediately snuggled into his embrace, curling up into a ball. She inhaled his familiar scent, a comforting aroma, and her tense nerves finally began to relax.

"Thank you, Pei Yanzhou," she whispered.

Pei Yanzhou patted her back gently and kissed her forehead: "You've been crying for so long, aren't you tired?"

"I'm tired..." Shu Hua said somewhat embarrassed.

"Then go to sleep," he coaxed her softly. "I'm here, I won't leave. Sleep peacefully."

With his comforting words, Shu Hua gradually closed her eyes. This time, she didn't have any more nightmares.

After two days of observation and a full set of examinations at the hospital, and only after confirming that there was nothing seriously wrong, Pei Yanzhou dared to discharge the patient.

On the day she was discharged from the hospital, Pei Yanzhou finished his morning work and came to pick her up in person.

After completing the formalities, he took her hand and walked out of the hospital building. The sun was shining brightly outside, its warmth bathing them, and the breeze felt wonderful on their faces. The sky was a deep blue, with a few white clouds drifting lazily by.

Shu Hua squinted as the sunlight stung her eyes, and raised her hand to shield her forehead.

For some reason, looking at the bustling streets outside, she suddenly felt a strange sadness welling up inside her.

Aftermath.

She had only seen those four words in books before. Now she truly understood their meaning; if the impact had been any harder, she might never have seen such sunshine again.

"What's wrong?" Pei Yanzhou noticed her unusual behavior.

"It's nothing." Shu Hua shook her head and forced a smile. "I just feel... it's so good to be alive."

The car was already waiting at the door. When the driver saw them come out, he respectfully opened the car door.

Shu Hua sat in the back seat, her hand unconsciously gripping the seatbelt tightly. She still had some psychological trauma; the thought of riding in a car made her uncontrollably nervous.

Pei Yanzhou noticed her unusual behavior, reached out and took her hand, gently patting the back of her hand.

His warm palm enveloped her icy fingers.

Shu Hua took a deep breath, trying to relax. Not wanting to dwell on the lingering fear, she changed the subject: "What happened to the driver who caused the accident...?"
