Chapter 7 Procurement Tasks and Unexpected Events
After the club activities ended on Friday, Iwaizumi, holding the budget book, frowned and found Oikawa Toru, who was chatting and laughing with the first-year students.
"Oikawa, stop playing around." Iwaizumi's voice immediately silenced the laughter around them. "The club's activity budget is almost gone. We need to replenish our sports drinks and medical supplies next week."
Oikawa Tetsu blinked, then suddenly broke into a bright smile: "Isn't this perfect? Iwa-chan, I know a new big supermarket just opened nearby, and they say it has lots of free samples~"
"We're going to shop, not to sample things." Iwaizumi sighed, but still started organizing the shopping list. "You push the shopping cart, don't fill it with unnecessary things like last time."
Just then, Oikawa Tetsu's gaze fell upon Yukimura Tsukishiro, who was quietly organizing his backpack on the sidelines. His emerald eyes suddenly lit up.
"Yuki-chan!" He walked over quickly, but stopped a step away from Yukimura Tsukishiro, maintaining a distance that wouldn't make her feel pressured. "We're going to buy club supplies. Want to come along? It'll be a good opportunity to get familiar with the area."
Yukimura Tsukishiro was clearly caught off guard by the sudden invitation, a hint of hesitation flashing in his emerald eyes. He glanced at the list in Iwaizumi's hand, then at Oikawa Toru's expectant yet distant demeanor, and finally nodded slightly.
Fifteen minutes later, the three appeared in a large supermarket near the school. Oikawa Tetsu pushed the shopping cart, humming a song as he walked in front; Iwaizumi followed beside him with a shopping list in one hand and a serious expression; Yukimura Tsukishiro walked quietly a step behind, his emerald eyes carefully observing the surrounding environment.
"Wow! This new chocolate looks delicious!" Oikawa Tetsu excitedly pointed to a row of beautifully packaged chocolates, but didn't reach for them. "They say it's made with Belgian cocoa~"
Iwaizumi immediately interrupted him: "We're here to buy household supplies, not snacks for you."
"Iwa-chan is so strict~" Oikawa Tetsu sighed dramatically, but his eyes were still searching the shelf for the next target.
Yukimura Tsukishiro followed quietly behind, his gaze sweeping over the shelves before he suddenly stopped. Before Iwaizumi Ichi could react, he had already placed two cases of the designated sports drinks into the shopping cart, arranging them neatly.
"Thank you, Yukimura," Iwaizumi said, somewhat surprised.
Yukimura Tsukishiro nodded gently and continued to follow the group.
As they passed the medical supplies section, Yukimura Tsukishiro stopped again. His gaze lingered on the various bandages and medical supplies for a moment, then he precisely picked up the bandage model listed by Iwaizumi Ichi, and even took a few extra rolls of different widths.
Oikawa Tetsu noticed this detail, a thoughtful glint in his brown eyes, but he quickly replaced it with a relaxed tone: "Yuki-chan seems quite familiar with medical supplies~ But I think you might prefer this to bandages!"
He pointed to a row of imported chocolates not far away, but kept his distance, not waving the products in front of the other person as he usually did: "I heard this brand of chocolate has a very smooth texture, want to take a look?"
Yukimura Tsukishiro's gaze lingered on the chocolate for a moment, his emerald eyes flickering slightly, but he quickly looked away and gently shook his head.
"Eh~ Don't you like this brand?" Oikawa Tetsu pointed to another chocolate, unwilling to give up. "How about this one? I heard it has crunchy rice inside, the texture is really unique?"
Iwaizumi nudged him lightly with his elbow: "Don't always tempt people with snacks."
Yukimura Tsukishiro quietly watched their interaction, then suddenly pointed to a shelf in the distance: "Over there... there are the ice packs on the list."
Iwaizumi looked in the direction he was looking and indeed spotted the ice packs on sale: "It's definitely cheaper than I expected... thank you."
He glanced at Yukimura Tsukihiro with some surprise, seemingly not expecting this quiet freshman to have such keen observation skills.
During the shopping process, Oikawa Tetsu constantly recommended various chocolate products, while Iwaizumi Ichika persistently put irrelevant items back in their place. Yukimura Tsukishiro quietly followed behind, but always accurately located the items on the list at crucial moments, and could even point out more economical alternatives.
"Yuki-chan is amazing!" Oikawa Tetsu couldn't help but exclaim, but still didn't approach. "She's like a human scanner!"
Iwaizumi Kazuya rarely agreed, saying, "They really helped a lot."
While checking out, Oikawa Tetsu quickly slipped a small box of premium chocolates into the bottom of the shopping cart when Iwaizumi wasn't looking. This little action didn't escape Iwaizumi's notice, but he didn't say anything, just slightly turned his head away, pretending not to see it.
On the way back to school, the three walked side by side, but maintained a subtle distance. Oikawa Tetsu pushed the cart full of items, still chattering away; Iwaizumi Ichi checked the shopping receipts, occasionally making a few complaints; Yukimura Tsukishiro quietly followed beside them, keeping a step's distance from the other two.
Just as they were about to reach the school, Oikawa Tetsu suddenly stopped and took the box of chocolates out of his shopping bag. He maintained a safe distance and gently handed the box to Yukimura Tsukishiro.
"This is for you, Yuki-chan." Oikawa Tetsu's voice was much gentler than usual, with a rare seriousness. "Thank you for accompanying us on our shopping trip today; you were a great help. This is a thank-you gift."
Yukimura Tsukishiro was visibly startled, his emerald eyes widening slightly. He glanced at the chocolate, then at Oikawa Tetsu's genuinely smiling face, his fingers unconsciously curling slightly.
Iwaizumi watched from the side, and surprisingly did not say anything to stop it, but just waited quietly.
"Take it," Oikawa Tetsu's smile was warm and without any pressure, "It's your favorite chocolate flavor."
After a long few seconds, Yukimura Tsukishiro slowly reached out and carefully took the box. His fingertips deliberately avoided touching Oikawa Tetsu's hand, but his movements as he took the box were very steady.
"...Thank you," he said softly, almost inaudibly, but he did say it.
Oikawa Tetsu's eyes lit up immediately, but he controlled his excitement well, simply smiling and nodding: "You're welcome, you deserve it."
Yukimura Tsukishiro looked down at the chocolate box in his hand; the beautifully packaged exterior gleamed warmly in the setting sun. He gently opened the box, took out a small piece of chocolate, and carefully put it in his mouth.
The rich aroma of cocoa melted in his mouth, the bitterness and sweetness reaching a perfect balance. His eyes narrowed slightly, like a cat finally finding a comfortable spot. This subtle change in expression did not escape Oikawa Tetsu's notice.
"Looks like we've chosen the right flavor." Oikawa Tetsu's voice was filled with undisguised joy, but he still maintained a proper distance.
Iwaizumi shook his head slightly as he watched this scene, but a faint smile seemed to linger at the corner of his mouth: "Alright, Trash Kawa, don't get too cocky. Yukimura, thank you for your help today."
Yukimura Tsukishiro carefully put the remaining chocolates back into the box, nodded slightly to the two of them, and then carefully put the box into his backpack.
The setting sun cast long shadows of the three of them. Oikawa Tetsu suddenly started humming a song out of tune, and Iwaizumi Ichi couldn't help but scold him for being "awful." Meanwhile, the corners of Yukimura Tsukishiro's mouth curved into an almost imperceptible smile.
As they parted ways at the school gate, Oikawa Tetsu called out to Yukimura Tsukishiro's retreating figure, "Let's go shopping together next time, Yuki-chan!"
Yukimura Tsukishiro stopped, didn't turn around, but nodded slightly, and continued walking forward. The setting sun gilded his white hair, and the chocolate in his backpack seemed to exude a warm, sweet aroma.
As Oikawa Tetsu watched his retreating figure, a thoughtful smile crept into his eyes: "What an interesting fellow, Iwa-chan."
"Ah," Iwaizumi responded briefly, his gaze also following the departing figure. "Indeed."
