Chapter 98 Brothers Aren't as Sweet as Teachers
Listen to this, is this even human language?
Those who don't know the situation might think that Yu Fuli, Xiao Chi, and Yun Bai didn't fall off their horses in the freezing cold yesterday, but rather engaged in some shady outdoor battle.
Yu Fuli's temple throbbed twice.
He took a deep breath, trying to keep his tone steady, but his words carried a warning: "Jiang, if you don't know how to speak properly, you can choose to remain silent."
"How can that be?" Jiang Yu wasn't intimidated at all. Instead, he leaned forward slightly, bracing his arms on the edge of the bed, closing the distance between them. His eyes held that usual nonchalant yet intensely focused smile as his gaze swept over Yu Fuli's tightly pursed lips. His low voice carried a deliberate huskiness and ambiguity, "With your mouth closed... how can I kiss you?"
Yu Fuli: "..."
He was completely speechless, and for a moment even wondered if he had damaged his brain and was hallucinating.
Looking at Jiang Yu so close, his face clearly saying "I've said it, what can you do about it?", he realized for the first time that trying to reason with this unconventional and reckless young master, or trying to assert his authority as a teacher, would probably be futile.
He simply gave up on verbal communication, raised the hand that wasn't being needled, pressed his index finger against Jiang Yu's forehead, and unceremoniously pushed that overly close face away. Then he turned his head away, closed his eyes, and adopted a cold posture that said, "I refuse to communicate, please leave."
The movements were swift and decisive, clearly showing disdain.
Jiang Yu's head tilted back as he pushed her, but she wasn't annoyed. Instead, she chuckled softly, the sound of which seemed somewhat abrupt in the quiet ward.
He remained seated in the chair, not forcing his way closer, but his gaze seemed fixed on Yu Fuli's profile, watching the faint shadow cast by his long eyelashes and the slightly pursed lips that were silent.
Sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting streaks of light and shadow between the two people.
Yu Fuli suddenly thought of an exceptionally fatal and crucial question.
"What are you doing here, Jiang? It's class time now."
"I'm out of here." Jiang Yu answered crisply and without a care. "I heard you guys had some trouble, so I came to check on you."
His gaze swept over Yu Fuli's face, then drifted towards the ward door. "What about the other two? I heard they're pretty badly injured? Yunbai's got a tough life, huh?"
It's over?!
Yu Fuli felt a sudden darkness before her eyes, as if her heart had been struck hard with a sledgehammer, and she desperately needed a nitroglycerin pill.
He could almost see the horrific scene at the end-of-month teachers' meeting, standing alone on the stage, the head of teaching affairs spitting as he held up the attendance sheet, his colleagues casting sympathetic or gloating glances at him, and the reasons he would be criticized for, in addition to the class average score, also included "failure to effectively discipline students, resulting in students skipping class without reason"!
This young master Jiang, can't you have even a little bit of self-awareness as a student?!
And, most importantly—
"Aren't Xiao Chi and Yun Bai your friends?" Yu Fuli couldn't help but open her eyes, looking at Jiang Yu with a furrowed brow and an incredulous tone. "One of them is lying in the operating room, his life hanging in the balance, and the other has a serious leg injury. You really don't care?"
Even if the relationship isn't that close, they're still in the same top circle. Upon hearing that a friend is seriously injured, wouldn't a normal person show concern or worry?
But Jiang Yu has been speaking in a flippant tone and acting casually ever since he came in. When he mentioned the two of them's injuries, he was so nonchalant that it was as if he were discussing the weather.
This reaction is far too cold and too unusual.
"They're not dead, are they?" Jiang Yu tilted his head, answering with such a matter-of-fact tone, even implying that it was nothing to be surprised about. "As long as they're breathing, that's enough. Focus on them..."
He drew out his words, his gaze returning to Yu Fuli's face, his eyes like hooks, "You'd be better off paying more attention to your teacher."
Yu Fuli was speechless for a moment because of his logic, and she almost couldn't hold her breath.
He almost wanted to sit up immediately and shout on behalf of Xiao Chi and Yun Bai, who were still lying in the operating room and hospital bed: Having a brother like you is truly a blessing they've earned in eight lifetimes!
So, in this young master Jiang's eyes, as long as he's alive, nothing else matters? His friend's serious injuries and coma, and the possibility of him becoming disabled, are less important than him harassing the teacher?
Yu Fuli closed her eyes and realized once again that talking to Jiang Yu about normal human relationships and empathy was basically like casting pearls before swine.
This person's thought process and values are clearly on a different level from those of ordinary people.
He simply gave up on communication, reverting to his indifferent stance of refusing to receive any signals, hoping that this troublemaker would quickly finish watching the spectacle and leave on his own.
Jiang Yu watched as he closed his eyes again, looking like he couldn't be bothered with her. Far from finding it boring, the playful smile on her lips deepened.
He stopped talking and just sat there casually in the chair, his gaze roaming unabashedly over Yu Fuli's face, from his slightly furrowed brows to his tightly pursed lips, and then to his chest rising and falling gently with his breath, as if he were admiring some interesting sight.
An eerie silence fell over the ward once again.
Only their breathing mingled.
It wasn't until Yu Fuli felt uncomfortable under that tangible gaze and was about to ask him to leave that Jiang Yu suddenly moved.
He stood up, the chair legs scraping against the floor with a slight creak.
He leaned down, close to Yu Fuli's ear, his warm breath brushing against her earlobe. His voice was extremely low, carrying a rare, almost serious tone, but it was quickly masked by his usual flippancy: "Seriously, Teacher Yu. Don't push yourself so hard next time."
He paused, his gaze falling on Yu Fuli's bandaged forehead. "It's not worth it for those two guys."
Yu Fuli did not open her eyes or respond.
Whether it's worth it or not is not determined by others.
