The Courtyard House: The story begins with He Yuzhu beating up the White Widow.

Chapter 056 Visiting Master's House for the New Year

Whether there was food or not, the entire courtyard was very lively, except for the Yi and Jia families, which were quiet and deserted.

It's said that one misses their loved ones even more during festivals. In previous years, Yi Zhonghai's family would be quite lively during the Spring Festival. Now, only Zhao Shufen remained. Zhao Shufen unconsciously thought of her family. Zhao Shufen was from Fengtian (Shenyang). Besides herself, her family included her parents, two older brothers, and a younger brother. When the Japanese occupied Northeast China, Zhao Shufen fled with her family. They got separated along the way. After liberation, Zhao Shufen secretly wrote letters to Fengtian and her hometown in Shandong Province, without Yi Zhonghai's knowledge. However, all the letters she sent disappeared without a trace.

After dinner, He Yuzhu took out the firecrackers he had bought that morning and took He Yushui out to set them off. After the firecrackers, He Yuzhu took He Yushui back home. He Yuzhu took out a bunch of snacks and brewed himself a pot of tea. He and He Yushui made a cup of chrysanthemum tea. The brother and sister sat facing each other, chatting idly. After a while, He Yushui took out a comic book she hadn't finished reading and continued reading, while He Yuzhu took out the risen dough and started making dumplings.

Halfway through making dumplings, He Yuzhu's divine sense inadvertently swept through the space and discovered a strangely colored container. He Yuzhu used his divine sense to open the container and found a large pile of miscellaneous items inside. These were probably belongings from the space's original owner. Among them was an antique-style radio. He Yuzhu's eyes immediately lit up. If it were a modern small radio, He Yuzhu wouldn't dare to use it. However, although this radio no longer used transistors, its appearance was similar to radios sold in the market today.

He Yuzhu used his divine sense to place the radio in a corner by the bed. He Yuzhu noticed that He Yushui was dozing off. He Yuzhu said, "Yushui, if you can't stay up, go to sleep. You don't need to stay with me."

"Oh!" He Yushui responded, and said, "Brother, when can we buy a radio?! During the day, I saw a lot of people gathered around the radio counter in the store, listening to what was playing on the radio."

He Yuzhu said with a smile, "Yushui, we have a radio at home."

"A radio?! Where is it?!" He Yushui immediately perked up.

He Yuzhu smiled and walked to the bedside, took out the radio from the corner, and plugged it into the lamp holder. Then, He Yuzhu turned on the radio, taught He Yushui how to tune the radio and how to select stations, and then continued making dumplings. He Yushui sat down next to the radio, constantly turning the tuning knob, searching for a program she liked to listen to.

At 11 p.m., He Yushui couldn't stay awake any longer and fell asleep next to the radio. After He Yuzhu carried He Yushui to bed, he added some hot water to her cup and slowly read a book.

Just after midnight, a burst of firecrackers went off outside. He Yuzhu took out a pack of Zhonghua cigarettes from his spatial storage, lit one, and smoked it thoughtfully.

Time quickly passed to seven o'clock in the morning, and He Yuzhu and He Yushui woke up. He Yushui opened her eyes, saw He Yuzhu, and said with a smile, "Brother, Happy New Year!"

He Yuzhu pulled out a red envelope he had prepared beforehand from under his pillow and handed it to He Yushui, saying, "This is a red envelope from your brother."

"Thank you, brother!" He Yushui took the red envelope and put it under her pillow, then got up with He Yuzhu.

After washing up, He Yuzhu cooked two plates of dumplings, and the brother and sister had a simple meal. Then they took the cloth bag containing incense, candles, paper money, and offerings and went out.

He Yuzhu's mother's grave was near Taoranting Park, not far from where they left the alley. He Yuzhu, annoyed that He Yushui was walking too slowly, simply picked her up and carried her towards Taoranting. Because of his mastery of the Martial Arts Manual, He Yuzhu was much faster than the average person. In less than an hour, he brought He Yushui to his mother's grave. He Yuzhu put He Yushui down, took out incense and candles from his bag, lit them, and placed offerings. He Yuzhu said to He Yushui, "Yushui, kowtow to our mother."

"Oh!" He Yushui responded, knelt down on the ground, kowtowed three times, and said, "Mother! Yushui misses you! You left, and Father abandoned us and ran away with someone else. You must bless my brother and me with good health. If you need anything, appear in my and my brother's dreams tonight. If you are unhappy, go find He Daqing tonight."

Hearing He Yushui's words, He Yuzhu was secretly delighted. However, he quickly composed himself, knelt down, and kowtowed three times, thinking to himself, "I hope you and your son can be reunited in the afterlife. Don't worry! Since I've taken over your son's body, I will definitely take good care of Yushui." Then He Yuzhu said, "Mother! Uncle has been found! I'll send him to your side during Qingming Festival. You siblings couldn't be reunited in life, so let's reunite in the afterlife!"

He Yushui asked, "Brother, do you think Mom might have reincarnated?!"

He Yuzhu replied, "I heard that you can only be reincarnated after you turn a hundred. She must be watching us from down there now. As long as we're doing well, our mother will be happy. Yushui, if you miss your mother, just look at her picture."

After staying for a while, He Yuzhu burned the paper money and then left the cemetery with He Yushui.

Around 10 a.m., He Yuzhu brought He Yushui back home. After the siblings rested for a while, He Yuzhu took the cigarettes, alcohol, and snacks he had bought the day before and went out again with He Yushui.

As they reached the front yard, Yan Bugui came out of the house and saw He Yuzhu carrying a large cloth bag. His eyes immediately turned red with envy. Yan Bugui asked, "Zhuzi, you and your sister just got back and are going out again?!"

He Yuzhu said, "Who told us to have so many relatives in Beijing?! If we don't visit a couple more places today, we'll be too late." With that, He Yuzhu led He Yushui straight out of the courtyard gate. Yan Bugui watched He Yuzhu's retreating figure, pondered for a moment, and then his eyes lit up.

"Knock! Knock! Knock!" Around 11 a.m., He Yuzhu knocked on his master's door.

"Who is it?!" Xi Juan heard the knocking and came out of the house. She quickly walked to the door, opened it, and saw He Yuzhu and his sister, smiling as she said, "You're here!"

"Master's wife!" He Yuzhu and He Yushui called out in unison.

"Come in quickly!" Xi Juan greeted He Yuzhu and his sister as they entered, then closed the door and said, "Your master has been talking about you two since early this morning."

"Master!" He Yuzhu greeted respectfully as he entered the living room, then placed the things he was carrying on the table.

Seeing the cloth bag on the table, Xi Juan complained, "You two siblings could have just come. Why did you bring so much stuff?!"

He Yuzhu said, "Master's wife, this is a small token of my appreciation. I'm currently working as a purchasing agent at the military control commission's canteen. Yushui and I are doing quite well."
