The Courtyard House: The story begins with He Yuzhu beating up the White Widow.

He Yuzhu offered him another cigarette. Yan Bufu took it, lit it, composed himself, and continued, "Yan Bugui hadn't even been a month since he returned from my maternal uncle's house. My maternal grandfather's youngest son was on his way back from a business trip when he encountered a Japanese raid. While hiding from the Japanese, he was shot in the groin by a bullet. He was later taken home and survived. However, he couldn't have children, which became a source of great distress for my uncle. After much thought, my uncle thought of Yan Bugui and asked someone to intercede. Out of respect for my father and mother, Yan Bugui was adopted. Not two years later, my uncle died of illness. Yan Bugui was sent back. But this time, Yan Bugui didn't come back at a loss. He brought back all of my uncle's inheritance. Yan Bugui didn't learn any good things from my uncle; he only picked up his uncle's stinginess and calculating nature." His accounting skills, if not surpassing his teacher's, were certainly far superior. A few years ago, our parents got old and divided the family property among us brothers. Unexpectedly, this scoundrel was already prepared. He transferred the study and stationery shop that Yan Bugui had been managing to his name. He even had someone forge an IOU. Even though the shops went to Yan Bugui, we older brothers accepted it. After all, we owed him money when he was young. But when it came time to discuss supporting our parents, this kid was ruthless! He produced an account book he kept, converting all the favors owed to our parents and brothers into money. He gave our parents two bags of gold yuan notes, considering it an end to all familial debts. When we went to settle accounts with him, he had already rented out the shops and disappeared without a trace!

He Yuzhu said, "Yan Bugui is now teaching at the Lou's Steel Rolling Mill's affiliated school."

"He's a teacher?!" Yan Bufu's eyes widened in shock as he stared at He Yuzhu, involuntarily shouting, "Isn't that misleading students?! The principal of this school must have terrible eyesight. Anyone with good eyesight would never hire him as a teacher." With that, Yan Bufu put a cigarette in his mouth, pulled out a pack from his pocket, took out two cigarettes, handed one to He Yuzhu, and then asked, "How is his family doing now?!"

He Yuzhu retorted, "He's so calculating, how do you think his family lives?!"

Yan Bufu was speechless.

Seeing Yan Bufu's reaction, He Yuzhu continued, "Uncle Yan, you're unlucky to have a brother like Yan Bugui. I advise you to take it easy!"

Before He Yuzhu could finish speaking, the sound of a sidecar motorcycle came from outside. A short while later, Ye Guoliang rushed in with three policemen. Ye Guoliang asked, "Old Zhang, what's going on?!"

Zhang Qiang said, "Old Ye has caught a big fish this time."

Upon hearing that it was a big fish, Ye Guoliang immediately perked up and said, "Little Chen just came back with news, but he didn't explain clearly what happened. What exactly is going on here?!"

Zhang Qiang hurriedly said, "Don't ask what happened yet. Bring him back first. It'll be troublesome if Qian Damazi comes."

"Alright! I'll take him back right away. Also, Xiao Song and Xiao Chen are behind. They'll bring the cart over." With that, Ye Guoliang led his men and escorted Mei Chuan Duzi out.

Just as Ye Guoliang and his men left, Xiao Song and Xiao Chen arrived with a cart borrowed from the military control commission. Zhang Qiang immediately directed his men to move the items from the basement and load them onto the cart.

After working for more than ten minutes, just as Zhang Qiang and his men were about to leave after loading everything onto the cart, Qian Qilai, the head of the local police station, arrived with his men. Upon seeing Zhang Qiang, Qian Qilai's face immediately darkened, and he said, "Old Zhang, you're not being very fair!"

Zhang Qiang said, "Old Qian, you can't blame me for this. They've been in your jurisdiction for so many years and you still didn't find them. It shows your work wasn't done properly!"

"Don't give me that nonsense! Where's the person you caught?!" Qian Qilai said, looking behind Zhang Qiang.

Zhang Qiang said with a smile, "Don't bother looking! Old Ye has already taken him back. I have things to do at the station, so I'll be leaving now! Come over to my place for tea sometime." After saying that, Zhang Qiang immediately led his men away, carrying the things they had collected from Mei Chuan Du Zi's place.

Qian Qilai watched Zhang Qiang and the others' retreating figures, his heart filled with rage! He turned to Yan Bufu and asked, "Old Yan, what's going on here?!"

Yan Bufu said, "Director Qian, you can't blame me for this. Right after Liberation, when you sent people to do the household registration, I told you that the kid living in the backyard had problems. None of you took my words seriously. Now that he's been arrested, you're blaming me?!"

Yan Bufu had misunderstood Qian Qilai. He wasn't the head of the police station in charge of this area. He had only been transferred there at the beginning of last year. The original head and some of the officers from the station had all gone to participate in the founding war.

Qian Qilai didn't waste any time and led his men straight to the backyard. Seeing that the door to Mei Chuan Du Zi's room was sealed off, Qian Qilai became even angrier. He sighed helplessly and left with his men.

"Old Qian, how's it going?!" Qian Qilai had just returned to the station when Instructor Liu Haibo's question reached his ears. Qian Qilai sighed and said, "Old Liu, don't even mention it! We were too late. The man had already been taken away by Zhang Qiang's group. I just heard from their liaison officer that they reported that person was suspicious to you right after liberation. Why didn't you investigate?!"

"Impossible?!" Liu Haibo replied instinctively, saying, "Such an important matter cannot be left uninvestigated. Unless..." After a slight pause, Liu Haibo continued, "I'll go check the files right now!" With that, Liu Haibo immediately went to the archives.

Meanwhile, Zhang Qiang returned to the station with his men. Ye Guoliang instructed his men to unload the goods from the cart and put them in the warehouse. Then he walked up to Zhang Qiang, offered him a cigarette, and asked, "Old Zhang, what exactly happened?!"

As Zhang Qiang took the cigarette, he bluntly recounted the whole story to Ye Guoliang. Ye Guoliang chuckled and said, "Looks like He Yuzhu really is a lucky star." After a few seconds of hesitation, Ye Guoliang said, "Old Zhang, He Yuzhu isn't doing much in the Military Control Commission. Do you think we should get him transferred there?"

Zhang Qiang said, "I have no objection. I just don't know if that kid is willing!"

Ye Guoliang said, "Since you agree, I'll go talk to Lao Wu and Lao Wang. Let them speak to He Yuzhu. That kid He Yuzhu likes freedom, so when He Yuzhu arrives, we'll assign him to the security team. Let him patrol with the patrol team every day."

Zhang Qiang said, "Old Ye, I'm not trying to discourage you, but based on what I know of that kid, he might not come."

"Anyway, let's give it a try! The person we brought back has already been taken to the interrogation room. Call the branch office and then go directly to interrogate him." With that, Ye Guoliang turned and went to the warehouse.
