Online Game: Me, with Unparalleled Comprehension
Chapter 336 Seven people?
Once inside the city, the street scenes were much the same as when I last visited.
There weren't many shops, the signs were old, and there were only a few pedestrians on the street.
There were Khitans dressed in Liao dynasty clothing and Song people dressed in Han clothing; they went their separate ways and ignored each other.
The street vendors were calling out listlessly.
Wu Feng walked along the main street for a while, glancing around on both sides, and finally stopped in front of an inn.
The storefront was small, with an old signboard hanging above it that read "Ping An Inn," the characters of which were somewhat blurred.
He pushed open the door and went inside.
Behind the counter sat an old man wearing a melon-shaped hat, fiddling with an abacus. Hearing footsteps, he looked up, a smile spreading across his face: "Sir, looking for a room?"
"I'd like a superior room." Wu Feng took out a silver ingot from his pocket and placed it on the counter.
The old man's eyes lit up when he saw the silver. He quickly put away his abacus and took a key from the wall: "Yes, yes, yes! The third room on the left upstairs, clean and bright, please come in, sir!"
Wu Feng took the keys and went upstairs.
Pushing open the door, the room was small, with a wooden bed, a table, a chair, and a half-open window that revealed the stables in the backyard.
He walked to the window, glanced outside, and then turned back to check the room again.
The room was confirmed to be normal.
Wu Feng glanced at the system time; it was almost noon.
With a slight thought, he opened the game interface and tapped "Log out of game" with his fingertip.
A flash of white light, and the hatch slowly slid open.
Wu Feng opened his eyes, sat up, and jumped out of the game pod, stretching his shoulders as his feet landed.
He picked up his phone from the table and glanced at it—11:40.
It's almost lunchtime.
I'll go to the cafeteria for lunch, eat and drink my fill. I have important business to attend to tonight, so I'll eat first and then talk about other things.
He put his phone in his pocket, pushed open the door to his bedroom, went downstairs, and left the villa.
The sun was shining brightly outside, making the ground appear glaringly white, and there weren't many people on the road.
After walking for about ten minutes, we arrived at the cafeteria.
As you push open the glass door and step inside, the aroma of food wafts out.
There weren't many people inside; a few tables were sparsely occupied, with some eating and others drinking and chatting.
Wu Feng walked to the food counter and took two large plates.
First, I took a few meat dishes—braised pork ribs, braised beef, and braised fish chunks—and then I took a few vegetable dishes—stir-fried greens, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and cucumber salad.
Two large bowls of rice. Finally, a large bowl of soup was brought out, and I found an empty table by the window to sit down.
The dishes tasted good; the ribs were stewed until tender, falling off the bone with a bite, and the braised beef was thinly sliced and had a chewy texture.
He ate quickly, finishing a large bowl of rice in just a few minutes, then picked up a second bowl and continued eating.
Halfway through the meal, a group of people entered the cafeteria.
Leading the group was Li Dahu, dressed in a training uniform, followed by a dozen soldiers in military uniforms, marching in unison.
Li Dahu glanced around the canteen, spotted Wu Feng, and waved to the soldiers behind him.
The soldiers dispersed, carrying their trays to find seats.
Li Dahu walked over with a tray and sat down opposite Wu Feng.
"It's rare to see someone come over for lunch." He picked up his chopsticks and glanced at Wu Feng.
Wu Feng swallowed the food in his mouth and wiped his mouth with a tissue: "You need to eat well to have the energy to work."
He picked up the soup bowl, took a sip, put it down, and looked at Li Dahu: "You've come at the right time. I was planning to go back into the game to find you. How's it going? Have you guys entered the city yet?"
Li Dahu picked up a piece of pork rib and nodded: "We've already entered the city."
He chewed twice, swallowed, and looked up at Wu Feng. "How are things going on your end?"
"The arrangements are all made," Wu Feng said. "They'll wait outside the city tonight, and they'll come in when the city gates open."
He picked up his chopsticks, took another bite of rice, chewed it, and continued, "Tonight we'll focus our attack on one city gate. Let's open the gate first."
After listening, Li Dahu nodded, put down his chopsticks, took out his phone from his pocket, and tapped the screen a few times.
"Now that you're out, I'll send you the map of the troop distribution in Yingzhou City that we investigated, as well as the residence of the governor of Yingzhou. Take a look at it first."
As soon as he finished speaking, Wu Feng's phone vibrated in his pocket.
He took out his phone and glanced at it—Li Dahu had sent him a picture.
Clicking on it reveals a partial map of Yingzhou City, with quite detailed markings.
"Okay." Wu Feng nodded and put his phone away.
Li Dahu picked up his bowl, shoveled some rice into his mouth, chewed it, and looked up to say, "Let's meet in the game later and discuss in detail how to attack."
"Okay, we'll contact each other in the game," Wu Feng said.
Li Dahu nodded, stood up, carried the tray to the other table, and sat down with the soldiers.
Wu Feng continued eating, finishing his second bowl of rice and then cleaning up all the dishes on the table.
He picked up the soup bowl, took two sips, put down his chopsticks, and wiped his mouth with a tissue.
He stood up, carried the tray to the recycling area, and walked out of the cafeteria.
The sun outside was stronger than when we arrived, and it felt a little hot on our faces.
He squinted and walked back along the main road.
On the way, I encountered several researchers in white lab coats, carrying folders, walking hurriedly, and talking to each other with their heads down.
Back at the villa, I pushed open the door, went up to the second floor, and entered the bedroom.
I sat down on the edge of the bed, took out my phone, and opened the picture that Li Dahu had sent me.
The partial map of Yingzhou City is drawn quite clearly.
The city wall has four gates, one each in the east, west, south, and north, and the number of guards at each gate is marked.
There are two military camps in the city, one in the east and one in the west, marked with the words "Garrison Camp".
There is a city defense battalion in the north of the city, marked as responsible for daily patrols and city defense dispatch.
Near the center of the south side of the city, a square was drawn with the words "Prefectural Governor's Office" written on it, and next to it was a note that "the governor's office has about three hundred soldiers."
Wu Feng zoomed in on the map and examined it carefully.
There are two military camps, each marked with a garrison of three thousand troops.
The city defense battalion didn't write down specific numbers, but judging from the location and scale of the markings, there were probably several hundred people.
Adding the three hundred soldiers from the governor's mansion, the total is—
He raised an eyebrow.
That's not right.
That adds up to nearly 7,000 people.
Didn't you say three thousand before?
He looked at the markings on the map again to make sure he hadn't misread them.
Two military camps, three thousand each, that's six thousand.
The city defense battalion probably has at least five hundred men, plus the governor's mansion's three hundred, making it about seven thousand.
This is more than double the 3,000 people mentioned before.
Wu Feng frowned and stared at the map for a few seconds.
What's going on here?
He zoomed out on the map, thought for a moment, and sent a message to Li Dahu: "I've seen the map. Each of the two military camps has three thousand men, plus the city defense camp and the governor's mansion, that's seven thousand troops. Didn't you say three thousand before?"
The message was sent and received a reply within seconds.
Li Dahu: "We only found out the details after we entered the city. The previous intelligence was wrong; the actual garrison in Yingzhou City is indeed around seven thousand. Are you still going to attack?"
Wu Feng stared at the line of text, his finger pausing on the screen for a moment.
Seven thousand people.
It was more than twice as many as expected, and it even took a detour.
But it's not a big problem.
