Online Game: Me, with Unparalleled Comprehension

Chapter 400 Arrangements for Mozhou City

At dawn, the sky was just beginning to lighten.

Wu Feng sat cross-legged on the bed in the backyard of the governor's mansion in Mozhou, slowly finished his exercise, and let out a long breath.

He got up from the bed, stood for a while, and twisted his waist.

I walked around the room for a bit, and my legs and feet weren't numb anymore; my blood and energy were flowing smoothly.

With a slight thought, the interface unfolded before his eyes, a semi-transparent light screen floating in mid-air. He tapped "Logout" with his fingertip.

A flash of white light, and the hatch slowly slid open.

Wu Feng opened his eyes, sat up, and jumped out of the game pod, using the edge as leverage. He landed on his feet and stretched his shoulders.

I picked up my phone from the table and glanced at it—it was 6:30 in the morning.

He put his phone in his pocket, pushed open the door to his bedroom, went downstairs, and left the villa.

I walked along the main road towards the cafeteria. It was already light, and the morning light shone through from the east, illuminating the entire road in a bright white glow.

There were few people on the road, only the sound of the wind blowing through the treetops.

It took about ten minutes to walk to the cafeteria.

Pushing open the door, I saw that all the lights were on, steam was rising from the food pick-up area, and several rows of dishes were already laid out.

Several chefs dressed in white were chatting at the kitchen door. When they saw him come in, they nodded.

Wu Feng took a tray and ordered ten baskets of steamed buns, five baskets of steamed dumplings, eight eggs, three bowls of soy milk, and a dish of pickled vegetables. He then found a seat by the window and sat down.

Ten baskets of steamed buns, five baskets of steamed dumplings, eight eggs, and three bowls of soy milk were all swept clean.

I wiped my mouth with a tissue, took the tray to the recycling area, and walked out of the cafeteria.

Back at the villa, I went up to the second floor and into the bedroom. I walked to the gaming pod, opened the hatch, and lay down inside.

The hatch slowly closed, and a faint blue light seeped out from the edges. A feeling of weightlessness washed over me, and everything went black.

A flash of white light.

Wu Feng opened his eyes and sat up from the bed.

The room was dimly lit, with the window half-open, letting in the morning breeze that carried the scent of plants and trees from the yard.

He stood up, straightened his clothes, pushed open the door, and went out.

Passing through the corridor and around the screen wall, we arrived at the front hall.

The door to the front hall was open, and the room was brightly lit. Several servants were wiping tables and sweeping the floor. They bowed to him as he entered.

Wu Feng walked to the head seat and sat down, leaning back in his chair. He gestured with his chin toward the servants standing at the door: "Go to the kitchen and prepare breakfast for five people, and bring it to the front hall. Also, go and call Mu Lingyun, Han Yufeng, Zhang Heng, and Li Hu over."

The servant bowed immediately, turned around, and ran out.

Wu Feng leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and tapped his fingers lightly on the armrest twice.

Before I could finish a cup of tea, I heard footsteps in the corridor.

A servant came in carrying a tray and placed breakfast on the table—millet porridge, steamed buns, mantou, steamed dumplings, several side dishes, and boiled eggs, filling the table to the brim.

The servant had just left when Mu Lingyun entered.

Mu Lingyun strode to the center of the front hall, clasped his hands in a salute, and said, "General."

Wu Feng opened his eyes, nodded, and pointed to the chair next to him: "Sit."

Mu Lingyun sat down on the left, her back ramrod straight.

Han Yufeng was the second to enter, and bowed with clasped hands, saying, "General."

Wu Feng raised his chin, and Han Yufeng sat down on his right.

Zhang Heng was the third to enter. He looked somewhat tired but was in good spirits, and he was holding a booklet in his hand.

He walked to the center of the front hall, bowed, and said, "General."

Wu Feng waved his hand, and Zhang Heng sat down next to Mu Lingyun, only sitting on half of the chair.

Li Hu was the last to enter. He nodded to Wu Feng and sat down near the door.

Everyone was here. Wu Feng leaned back in his chair, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the group, and said, "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Let's eat and chat."

After saying that, he picked up his chopsticks, took a bite of a steamed bun, and then took a bite.

Mu Lingyun didn't stand on ceremony. He picked up a bowl of porridge, took a sip, picked up a steamed bun, broke it in half, and added some pickled vegetables.

Han Yufeng took a bowl of porridge and slowly drank it.

Zhang Heng first picked up a steamed bun and started eating.

Li Hu picked up the bowl of porridge, took a sip, leaned back in his chair, and ate in a rather unrefined manner.

Wu Feng finished chewing the bun in his mouth, swallowed it, and looked at Mu Lingyun.

"Mu Lingyun, how are things going with the arrangements for the surrendered soldiers?"

Mu Lingyun put down the steamed bun, sat up straight, clasped his hands, and said, "Reporting to the General, all the surrendered soldiers have been properly arranged. The more than four thousand surrendered soldiers who were recruited yesterday have all been incorporated into the troops and settled in the open space west of the city. I have fenced off an area and assigned five hundred veteran soldiers to watch over it, not allowing them to move around at will. Training has already begun this morning, from the very beginning, with drills in formation, weapons, and discipline."

He paused, then continued, "Most of the surrendered soldiers are fairly obedient; they do whatever they're told. A few troublemakers disobeyed orders and were executed in public by their subordinates, and now they've quieted down."

Upon hearing this, Wu Feng nodded and took another bite of the steamed bun.

"Continue training," he said, chewing and swallowing, his tone flat. "Tomorrow, those who obey orders can be taken along as vanguards. Those who disobey orders will remain in Mozhou City and not cause trouble in the later battles."

Mu Lingyun nodded readily: "Yes, General. I will make the arrangements. Before we depart tomorrow, I will screen all the surrendered soldiers."

Wu Feng hummed in agreement, picked up the bowl of porridge, took a sip, and looked at Han Yufeng.

"Han Yufeng, how are you over there?"

Han Yufeng put down her bowl of porridge, clasped her hands in a fist and said, "Reporting to the General, last night, I led men to patrol all over the city and found nothing unusual. We went through the streets, city gates, warehouses, and government offices. The people were law-abiding and there was no trouble. I arranged for people to watch around the residences of several large families, and there were no abnormalities all night long. No one entered or left, and no correspondence was exchanged."

She paused, then said with certainty, "Everything is normal."

Wu Feng nodded, didn't say anything more, picked up a steamed dumpling and stuffed it into his mouth.

After Han Yufeng finished speaking, she picked up her bowl of porridge and continued drinking.

Seeing that the two had finished speaking, Zhang Heng quickly stood up from the side, bowed, and handed over the booklet with both hands.

"General, last night I visited several prominent families and clans in the city. Here is the list and details; please take a look, sir."

Wu Feng took the booklet and glanced at it.

It was written clearly in the booklet. There were seven or eight prominent families in Mozhou City, the three largest being surnamed Wang, Li, and Zhang.

The details of each household were listed—who the head of the household was, how many people lived there, how many acres of land they owned, how many shops they had, how many private soldiers they supported, and whether they had any dealings with the Liao Kingdom.

Some families have already agreed to submit and offered their treasures.

The quantity was considerable; silver, grain, cloth, and medicinal herbs filled several warehouses.

Some families are still observing and have not yet made a statement.

Two other companies have already been eliminated; the booklet reads "Resistance, Destroyed."

Zhang Heng bowed respectfully, saying, "Many people are willing to offer their treasures and submit. Those who resisted have already been dealt with. However, even those who submit are not very loyal. When I talked to them, they all spoke eloquently, but their eyes darted around, and they held back their words. They were quick to offer treasures, but when asked if they were willing to contribute manpower or effort, they started making excuses."

He paused, then added, "These people are all opportunists. They side with whoever wins. Now that we've taken Mozhou City, they've submitted. Tomorrow, if the Liao Kingdom attacks again, they'll turn around and surrender to Liao. They're unreliable."

After listening, Wu Feng closed the booklet, placed it on the table, and nodded.

He picked up the bowl of porridge, took a sip, put it down, picked up a steamed bun, took a bite, chewed it twice, and swallowed.

"Han Yufeng," Wu Feng said.

Han Yufeng put down her bowl of porridge and clasped her hands in a fist salute: "Here."

"Continue to monitor the city's movements. Pay special attention to the powerful families and clans. If anyone makes any unusual moves, arrest them immediately without asking for permission."

Han Yufeng nodded: "Yes, General."
