Chapter 36: The tense Xie Yue, and the crazy Hu Liena and Yan

"Brother Xieyue."

The atmosphere, which had just cooled down, gradually warmed up again the moment Xie Yue and Yan brought out the cake.

Ning Shu stood up and smiled at the two people.

Xie Yue returned her smile, while Yan went directly to Hu Liena's side, placed the cake in front of her, and said obsequiously, "Nana, these are all your favorites. See, am I good to you?"

Yan chuckled to himself, not even glancing at Hu Liena's expression.

With a forced smile, Hu Liena didn't say anything to him, but her face was gloomy, as if she had thought of something very bad.

"."

Hu Liena didn't say anything, and Yan then noticed that the person sitting next to him looked a little unwell.

He paused, then asked with concern, "Nana, what's wrong?"

It was precisely because of Yan's concern that Xie Yue noticed Hu Liena's less-than-ideal mood.

He placed the cake on the table, walked over and sat down next to Ning Shu, glancing at Hu Liena and asking with concern, "Nana?"

Hu Liena looked up at Ning Shu and Xie Yue, her eyes filled with an indescribable complexity. Xie Yue looked at her in confusion, "Nana, what's wrong?"

Ning Shu also glanced at Hu Liena, thinking to herself, "Hu Liena wouldn't be that petty, would she? She just refused an invitation to study at the Martial Soul Academy, right? It can't be that serious, can it?"

Seeing everyone looking at her, Hu Liena felt a little embarrassed. Since what she had overheard concerned her teacher's innocence and was Ning Shu's innermost thoughts, she couldn't just say it directly. She pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and forced a smile, saying, "I'm fine, brother. I just suddenly remembered that I haven't finished the homework the teacher gave me, and I'm a little worried."

"Homework? What homework?" Yan pressed, completely oblivious to the situation.

"."

Hu Liena rolled her eyes and didn't want to talk to him.

Xie Yue understood his younger sister's temperament well. He didn't ask any more questions, but just nodded to indicate that he understood. "It's okay to do your homework when we get back. Haven't you always wanted to eat the desserts from this place? Now that we're here, eat as much as you want. We can talk about other things later."

After saying that, he smiled and pushed the cake in front of him to Hu Liena, "Hey, Black Forest cake, your favorite."

Hu Liena felt a warmth in her heart and nodded with a smile, "Yes, thank you, brother."

The atmosphere was warmed up by Xie Yue, and Ning Shu found that Hu Liena was actually quite easy to coax.

She picked up a piece of cake and started eating, her mind wandering, lost in thought.

Xie Yue hadn't originally planned to sit in the seat next to Ning Shu, but Hu Liena had been in a bad mood earlier, so he subconsciously found the best spot to observe her expression. Now that Hu Liena was appeased, he felt a little nervous facing Ning Shu.

Yan noticed the unusual look in Xie Yue's eyes. Being a gossip-loving human, he nudged Hu Liena beside him, gesturing for her to look, and whispered, "I've never seen your brother like this before. Do you think he likes this Ning Shu?"

Hu Liena glanced at Yan, then focused her gaze on his fingers. She moved her hand and looked at Xie Yue.

The group had lived together for several years, and Hu Liena had grown up with Xie Yue since childhood. Didn't she know Xie Yue's personality well?

It was obvious that Xie Yue was nervous.

Although she still harbored some resentment, now was not the time to bring it up. Hu Liena knew she couldn't act too strangely. As for her teacher, she would ask him about it when she got back.

"I could tell a long time ago that my brother liked her. It was love at first sight, lust at first sight. He must like her because she's pretty," Hu Liena said softly. She and Yan whispered to each other, looking at Xie Yue and Ning Shu, and the distance between them closed a bit.

Yan really liked this feeling. He chuckled and said, "You are indeed good-looking, but you're still not as pretty as Nana. In my heart, you're the prettiest one!"

As soon as he said something that would ruin the mood, he was met with a glare from Hu Liena.

She came to her senses and still kept her distance.

Yan smiled helplessly and said nothing.

Looking at their sly expressions, Xie Yue could guess what kind of nonsense they were talking about.

Xie Yue glanced at Ning Shu beside her subconsciously, pursed her lips, and didn't know what to say. What topic should she start? How could she find one?

He didn't know what Ning Shu liked. This was their second meeting, and his impression of Ning Shu was still based on her infatuated voice calling him "Brother Xie Yue."

It's easy to see that she really likes good-looking people.

Xie Yue believed that he was a good match for Ning Shu in terms of looks, but he didn't know what Ning Shu thought.

His gaze lingered on Ning Shu for a while, and Ning Shu noticed, suddenly turning her head to meet Xie Yue's eyes. "Brother Xie Yue, is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Ah!" Xie Yue quickly looked away, a blush creeping onto his cheeks. He hurriedly explained, "No, no, I just saw some cream on your hair and wanted to wipe it off."

As he continued speaking, Xie Yue himself lost his courage.

He turned his head away, lowered his eyes, and bit his lip lightly, never expecting that his nonsense would actually sound so plausible.

cream?

Ning Shu looked left and right, but couldn't see anything unusual in her hair.

"Where?" she asked, looking at Xie Yue.

They actually took it seriously.

Xie Yue coughed lightly, then reached out a little guiltily and casually brushed the hair that was pulled up behind Ning Shu's ear. "Okay, that's all."

Her hair fell down, long and smooth strands brushing against Xie Yue's palm. His heart pounded unusually fast, and the ticklish sensation in his palm went straight to his heart, making him take a few more glances at Ning Shu's long hair.

The purple highlights stood out starkly against her black hair. Ning Shu raised her hand and pulled her hair back up. "So this is where it is."

She muttered a few words, but didn't realize that Xie Yue was just talking nonsense.

Xie Yue breathed a sigh of relief, while the two onlookers opposite him were completely engrossed in the drama.

Hu Liena didn't even eat the cake. She just stared at the two people in front of her, secretly shipping them as a couple, while also adding a friendly reminder: "Brother, you can have this cake. I don't like it."

She handed the red velvet cake that Yan had brought to Xie Yue.

During Hu Liena's observation, she noticed that Ning Shu particularly liked this cake, so she specially offered it to her, hoping that Xie Yue would curry favor with her.

Xie Yue knew his sister's tastes, and a question mark slowly appeared on his face, as if he were asking a question.

Hu Liena gave her a look, as if to say: Brother, hurry, give her some, she loves it!
