Jiang Che blocked the doorway and didn't move aside, his eyes scanning the two people in front of him up and down.

He didn't know them, but the way they looked at him was as if they had known him for a long time.

"Excuse me... is this Su Qinghe's hospital room?"

The middle-aged man put down the fruit basket in his hand, then rubbed his hands together and asked.

Her smile became even more obsequious, and she even bent her waist slightly.

"Yes."

Jiang Che nodded, his tone somewhat cold, "Who are you?"

"Oh, then you haven't made a mistake, you haven't made a mistake."

The middle-aged man breathed a sigh of relief, then, as if grasping at a lifeline, quickly picked up the fruit basket he had just put down and handed it to Jiang Che.

"Um, I'm Lin Wanwan's father, and this is Wanwan's mother."

As Mr. Lin introduced himself, he craned his neck to look into the ward. "We came here specifically to see Su. We heard she was injured, and we feel really bad about it..."

Upon hearing the name "Lin Wanwan," Jiang Che's previously calm face instantly darkened.

A chill suddenly rose from the depths of his eyes.

He said those two looked familiar, and then he realized they were the crazy woman's parents.

That's incredibly fast. The daughter has only just gone to jail, and her parents have already come knocking on the door.

It's obvious what they're here for.

It's nothing more than the same old trick—pleading for mercy, playing the victim, moral blackmail, and finally offering some money to try and settle things privately.

It's true what they say: like begets like, and even a rat's son knows how to dig a hole.

Like father, like daughter.

Jiang Che admitted that he was indeed somewhat prejudiced, but he could not forgive Lin Wanwan for the harm she had caused to Su Qinghe, and naturally he could not rationally view her parents.

"Lin Wanwan's parents, right?"

When Lin's father offered him the fruit basket in a fawning manner, Jiang Che only glanced at it briefly before looking away.

He remained as imposing as a mountain blocking the doorway, showing no intention of letting the man and woman in.

He crossed his arms, leaned against the doorframe, and his eyes revealed undisguised sarcasm.

"There's no need for you two to visit Qinghe. Instead of wasting your time worrying about Qinghe, I suggest you think more about your own daughters."

"After all, prison food isn't enough for your daughter's big appetite. You should send these fruits and supplements to the prison to give her a treat."

Jiang Che's words were quite impolite, essentially killing the conversation.

Upon hearing this, the smile on Lin's father's face instantly froze. He was now caught between accepting the fruit basket he was holding in mid-air and giving it away.

I was so embarrassed that I wanted to disappear into the ground.

Lin's mother, on the other hand, seemed much calmer. She stepped forward and tugged at Lin's father's sleeve, then whispered something in his ear.

Upon hearing what Lin's mother said, Lin's father immediately responded, "Young man... you've misunderstood, that's not what we meant..."

He's a seasoned veteran of the underworld, and his skin is incredibly thick.

Lin's father quickly composed himself, forcefully placed the fruit basket on the ground by the door, and then began to act with a sorrowful expression.

"We just want to apologize to Su in person. Wanwan was confused for a moment and did something wrong. We, as parents, have a responsibility..."

"We know Su has been wronged. We'll do anything to forgive Wanwan..."

As he spoke, Lin's father's eyes reddened, and he looked like a heartbroken and devoted father.

Jiang Che watched this scene with a cold eye, feeling nauseous.

play.

The performance continues.

This acting is so good it's a waste not to give it an Oscar.

If apologies were enough, what would be the point of having police?

If shedding a few crocodile tears could pull out a knife and make it seem like nothing happened, the world would probably be in chaos long ago.

Seeing Jiang Che's unyielding attitude, Lin's father's smile froze for a moment, but he quickly regained his fawning expression.

Since appealing to emotions isn't working, we'll have to resort to something more practical.

He simply couldn't believe that these two high school students could resist the temptation of money.

"Jiang, Uncle knows that Wanwan was in the wrong this time, and that she frightened you and Su."

As he spoke, Mr. Lin reached into the inside pocket of his wrinkled suit and rummaged around for a while.

Then, as if by magic, he pulled out a square-folded check, held it by the two corners with both hands, and solemnly handed it to Jiang Che.

"This is 500,000 yuan, a small token of our appreciation."

Lin's father lowered his voice, his tone revealing a deep heartache, as if a piece of his own flesh had been cut off.

As he handed over the check, his eyes remained fixed on Jiang Che's face, trying to spot even the slightest sign of greed or shock in the young man.

"As long as Su is willing to sign that letter of understanding, this money... will be yours immediately."

Five hundred thousand.

For an average high school student, this is an astronomical sum.

Lin's father was calculating in his mind. With this money, his son could live a carefree life for quite some time, whether it was buying a car or taking his girlfriend out to splurge.

He simply didn't believe anyone would turn down money.

Lin's mother, standing nearby, looked at the check and her eyelids twitched violently twice, clearly feeling the pinch.

But in order to save her daughter, she could only grit her teeth and remain silent.

Jiang Che lowered his eyelids, his gaze lightly falling on the check that Lin's father had crumpled slightly.

The string of zeros following the "5" above looks quite intimidating.

"Five hundred thousand?"

Jiang Che casually repeated the number. He didn't rush to express his opinion, but simply reached out and took the check.

Upon seeing this, Lin's father was overjoyed, and his previously anxious heart was instantly relieved.

If they're willing to take the money, things will be much easier.

There's nothing in this world that money can't solve; if there is, it's because you don't have enough money.

"Yes, yes, five hundred thousand! A full five hundred thousand!"

Lin's father's face was so wrinkled from laughing that it almost looked like a chrysanthemum. He quickly pressed on while the iron was hot, "Jiang, you know that Wanwan is still a child. If she really has a criminal record, her life will be ruined."

"We should be forgiving when we can. With this money, you can do whatever you want in the future. Why do you have to go to such lengths? Don't you think that makes sense?"

He looked at Jiang Che with hopeful eyes, as if he could already see Jiang Che nodding in agreement.

However, the next second, Jiang Che chuckled.

A short, cold chuckle made Lin's father's heart skip a beat with unease.

"Tsk."

Jiang Che held the thin piece of paper between two fingers and waved it casually in mid-air, making a crisp "rustling" sound.

"I didn't realize you were such a good old man. You don't have much money, but you're quite the schemer."

"You think you can buy off the charge of attempted kidnapping and extortion with 500,000? Do you think the current laws are too cheap, or do you think your daughter's freedom is only worth that little money?"

As Jiang Che spoke, he casually tossed the check back into Lin's father's arms, as if he were disgusted by its dirty hands.

The check landed lightly on Mr. Lin's chest. Upon seeing this, Mr. Lin instinctively reached out to grab it, but his movement was a beat too slow.

All I could do was watch as the check eventually drifted slowly to the ground.
