The blind boss's nanny

Chapter 25 Why not stay here?

Lin Xiaoman stopped in her tracks.

"Chairman, would you like to experience it?"

Before she could get a reply, she had already taken the man's hand and led him to squat down.

His warm palms enveloped his slightly cool fingers as they were immersed together in the cool lake water.

"Chairman, we are now by the lake."

Their fingertips broke the calm surface of the lake, and ripples spread out from between their intertwined fingers.

A certain tremor surged through Lu Tingzhao's heart along with the flowing water...

This is a winding stream pavilion designed by him personally; every stone and piece of wood was approved by him.

Once the man had a clear sense of what was happening, Lin Xiaoman subtly led him back a few steps.

"Are you afraid I'll fall?"

The deep voice startled her.

Since he couldn't see it anyway, Lin Xiaoman spoke nonsense with righteous indignation:

"Of course not, there are a few black swans in the middle of the lake, and they're swimming this way. I'm worried they might peck you..."

The two strolled slowly along the lake shore, and Lin Xiaoman took the opportunity to look around the manor, which still felt mysterious after half a month.

She still doesn't know her exact location.

Every time she looked out from the terrace, she saw endless lush greenery, making the entire mansion look like a fairytale castle.

Recalling the shock she felt when she first arrived, Lin Xiaoman couldn't help but click her tongue in amazement.

This isn't a residence; it's clearly a magical castle from a movie brought to life.

Lin Xiaoman bent down and picked up a golden leaf, gently placing it in Lu Tingzhao's outstretched palm:

"Chairman, are those trees by the lake... olive trees? The leaves have golden edges; they look especially beautiful in the sunlight."

The man's fingertips traced the veins of the leaf, his deep voice carrying a distant tenderness:

"It's a laurel tree."

This is a tree species that he personally selected from the Gulf of Corinth in Greece.

When the last laurel tree arrived, Tingxi held the sapling, Tingzhou added soil, and Xingqi jumped and stomped the soil firmly.

That spring evening, he broke with tradition and ended the meeting early, only to be pulled under a tree by his younger siblings.

The four of them shared a bottle of aged rum under the warm light of the camping lamp. Tingxi's laughter was so loud that even the swans on the lake dared not swim towards them.

"Now..."

His hand, which was holding a withered leaf, tightened slightly.

"The lawn should be covered in fallen leaves by now, right?"

Lin Xiaoman looked at the laurel leaf curled up in his palm.

The next second, a leaf twirled down and landed on the man's shoulder like a golden butterfly.

As dusk fell, the laurel trees were bathed in a warm orange hue, and the carpet of fallen leaves rustled in the wind.

She saw him look up, as if through the eternal night, she could see once again that rum-scented dusk.

"There's a bridge ahead. Chairman, would you like to walk on it?"

The man's cane touched the neatly trimmed boxwood fence. He turned the corner along the fence and suddenly stopped:

"It's the Apollo Bridge."

He took his first step, the tip of his cane touching the edge of the bridge steps.

The two stood side by side on the bridge. Lu Tingzhao bent down to touch the clematis entwined on the white marble railing. The velvety texture of the petals perfectly matched his memory.

A gentle breeze swept across the lake, swans swam slowly, the water rippled, and the air was filled with the scent of earth and the rustling of leaves.

All senses suddenly became incredibly clear.

He no longer needs to rely on memory maps; the tactile sensation extended by his cane is reconstructing the world for him.

Just then, Aunt Mei drove over.

"Chairman,"

She quickly got out of the car and stepped forward, speaking respectfully.

"I've come to take you home."

She glanced at Lin Xiaoman, her eyes sharp.

The daily menu at the mansion is very elaborate, and preparations for the evening's dishes begin after lunch.

She only went to the kitchen to give instructions for a short while, and in that short time, the nanny brought the chairman to such a dangerous place as the lake!

It takes twenty minutes to walk from the main house to Swan Lake, passing three fountains and countless rose bushes along the way; even a healthy person's legs will ache after walking it.

Not to mention the chairman who has a visual impairment right now; Aunt Mei can't understand how Lin Xiaoman managed to persuade him.

The manor used to have a shuttle bus, but the driver has been dismissed by Lu Tingzhao.

After he lost his sight, he developed a particular fondness for tranquility.

I don't like having too many people around.

The barista was also fired in this way.

It was called a dismissal, but they were just sent to work at the villa where Lu Tingzhou and Lu Tingxi lived.

He doesn't need so many people; he's just one person.

To Lin Xiaoman's surprise, Lu Tingzhou actually wanted to walk back by himself.

"Aunt Mei, you can go back now."

Lu Tingzhao's white cane lightly tapped the cobblestone path.

"I want to try and see if I can walk back by myself."

Lin Xiaoman quickly raised her hand:

"I know the way! I promise to bring the chairman back safe and sound!"

As Aunt Mei turned around, she heard Lin Xiaoman coaxing someone:

"Chairman, let's slow down, there are many plants here that I don't recognize..."

Which one?

No sooner had she finished speaking than Lin Xiaoman pointed to the flowerbeds by the roadside and exclaimed in surprise:

"Chairman! The flower cluster that looks like a ball, the color I saw earlier, was definitely not this color!"

"This is a type of hydrangea called Endless Summer."

The man said softly,

"Every evening, it gradually changes from blue to pinkish-purple."

Lin Xiaoman kept asking questions, from the varieties of irises to the pruning cycle of boxwood.

Lu Tingzhao patiently answered his questions.

He spoke eloquently, like an artist, about the manor he had built.

Lin Xiaoman listened intently.

"Such a nice place!"

Lin Xiaoman gazed at the rare flowers and trees covering the mountains and fields.

"Why didn't you come back to live here before?"

They've moved back now, but this beautiful place is gone forever.

Lu Tingzhao's fingertips tightened slightly.

He was the head of the Lu family, a position he had seized from his other uncles.

They lack support from elders above and have insufficient foundation below.

The only thing I could do was roll it up as fast as I could.

It takes time and energy.

Those years as a frequent flyer, those late nights spent in conference rooms, those watchful eyes of my uncles...

Ultimately, it all boils down to one sentence:

"I'm busy with work."

She was just a nanny; he didn't need to explain so much to her.

Lin Xiaoman completely ignored the man's perfunctory attitude, opened her arms and twirled lightly in a circle on the flower path, her skirt brushing against the blooming hydrangeas.

"If I were the owner of this place,"

She took a deep breath of the floral-scented air.

"I will be such a cheerful little girl..."

Lin Xiaoman muttered to herself:

"Living here, what worries could you possibly have?"

Lu Tingzhao suddenly raised an eyebrow:

"A forty-year-old girl?"

"oops!"

She hurriedly covered her mouth.

"What I mean is having a youthful mindset!"

On the way back, the two walked at a leisurely pace.

Lu Tingzhao rarely spoke with a hint of teasing:

"You don't live here, but that doesn't affect your cheerfulness."

Lin Xiaoman laughed heartily.

"That's right, there's no limit to how cheerful you can be!"

"You live here now, what's bothering you?"

"There are so many!"

She counted on her fingers.

"Every day I have to think about how to get you to eat one more bite, how to get you to work less overtime, how to make you happy..."

The man's cane stopped as soon as he finished speaking:

"Is it important that I make you happy?"

"Extremely important!"

Lin Xiaoman blurted it out.
