"Uncle Liu, Aunt Liu, and this brother Liu, things aren't handled that way."

It's understandable that Shuanzi is greedy because he's young, but that's no excuse for him to snatch things and push his older brother. If he can be allowed to steal without restraint just because he's young, what will he be like when he grows up? Won't he be capable of murder and arson?

Before the Liu family could refute, Chen Yancheng saw that his third uncle had spoken, and immediately turned to his second aunt, Liu, and said, "Second aunt, although Yanxin is your biological son, he is also a child of our Chen family."

He was wronged, his belongings were stolen, and he was shoved. Instead of asking if he was in pain or upset, you rushed to make him hand over what belonged to him in his own home, in front of his parents and siblings, to someone who came to his door and then tried to rob him. Do you think it's reasonable for the Chen family to allow outsiders to bully us on our own doorstep?

Chen Qinghui muttered under her breath, but her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear, "What does he have to do with my sister? My sister bought the things. She didn't even ask for them. If you want to buy things for your nephew, just pay for them yourself. Why are you using my sister's things to show off your generosity?"

Liu's face flushed red with embarrassment at their words, feeling as if her dignity as an elder had been ripped off: "What are you saying, child? Aren't they all relatives? He's just a child. You're all older brothers and sisters. Why are you arguing with him when you're all grown up?"

Seeing this, Shuanzi's eyes darted around twice. He quickly stuck out his tongue and licked the sugar figurine twice, his mouth full of sticky sugar syrup. Then he looked at Chen Yanxin, whose face was red with anger, with a provocative expression.

Seeing his smug expression, Chen Yanxin couldn't hold back his tears, which had been welling up in his eyes. As if he didn't want to appear so pathetic in front of his "enemy," he turned away abruptly and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

Seeing her second uncle and aunt's attitude, Chen Wanxing didn't bother to save face for them anymore. She gently patted Chen Yanxin's tense back, took a half step forward, and stood in front of him, her gaze returning to Shuanzi, who was clutching the sugar figurine and seemed to think he had succeeded.

Then, she bent down slightly and looked directly at Chen Yanxin, whose face was filled with resentment.

"Brother Xin," she said, her voice softening, but with encouragement and a firm strength, "your elder sister is asking you, was this sugar figurine something you were willing to give to him?"

"No, he stole it." Chen Yanxin shouted when he heard his sister ask the question, his voice trembling with excitement.

"Okay." Chen Wanxing nodded. "Now, the sugar figurine is dirty; he's made it dirty. Do you still want it back?"

Chen Yanxin looked at the sticky, filthy sugar figurine covered in unfamiliar saliva, a strong sense of disgust flashing in his eyes. He shook his head vigorously, "No, I don't want it! It's disgusting!"

"Very good." A hint of approval flashed in Chen Wanxing's eyes. She raised her voice a little to make sure everyone in the courtyard could hear her. "Then, Brother Xin, let me teach you once. You must remember that what belongs to you, even if you don't want it anymore, you must never let it remain in the hands of plunderers, becoming a reward for them to show off and think that plundering is useful."

This isn't about arguing over a bite to eat; it's about teaching those who don't understand rules what right and wrong are, and what it means to not touch other people's things.

She took Chen Yanxin's wrist and led him straight to Shuanzi. Shuanzi seemed to realize something was wrong and tried to hide the sugar figurine behind his back, but Chen Wanxing was one step ahead of him and said to Chen Yanxin, "Take it back, and then throw it away."

Supported by his elder sister's calm and powerful gaze, Chen Yanxin's courage grew, and he suddenly reached out and snatched the sticky sugar figurine back from Shuanzi's hand.

Shuanzi cried out "Ouch!" and tried to snatch it back, but Chen Wanxing stopped him in his tracks with a single look.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Chen Yanxin, holding the misshapen sugar figurine, turned and walked to the basin at the foot of the courtyard wall, which was specifically for storing kitchen wastewater. Without the slightest hesitation, he raised his hand.

A muffled "thump" was heard.

The sugar figure disappeared into the murky water, creating a small ripple before quickly sinking and disappearing from sight.

The courtyard was deathly silent.

Shuanzi froze for a moment, then burst into loud sobs, kicking his legs and throwing a tantrum: "My candy, my candy, give me back my candy, Grandma, Daddy, he threw away my candy!"

"you!"

Mr. Liu snorted heavily, his face grim. Mrs. Liu's face fell completely; she stopped picking at the melon seeds in her hand and hurried to coax her grandson, all the while glaring at the Chen family members, especially Chen Wanxing.

The second aunt stared at her wailing nephew from her maternal family and her own son, who had expressionlessly thrown away the sugar figurine and stood straight beside Chen Wanxing. Her mouth was agape, and her face was a mixture of red and white.

She stood there awkwardly, looking at her parents and brother, then at her husband and son, before finally fixing her gaze on Chen Wanxing, her heart filled with resentment.

The suffocating silence in the courtyard was filled with Shuanzi's increasingly loud wails. He kicked his legs, sat on the ground and threw a tantrum, shouting "Give me back my candy!" and "The bad guy threw my candy!" Liu's mother and Liu Yaozu surrounded him, one scolding him in a low voice with a stern face, and the other trying to coax him, but to no avail, and only made the scene more unsightly.

Aunt Liu stood helplessly in the middle, looking at her crying nephew, then at her expressionless husband and her stubborn son standing beside Chen Wanxing with pursed lips, her face burning with embarrassment.

Just as this awkward stalemate was reaching its conclusion, Grandma Chen, who had been interrupted earlier but had remained silent after her son spoke, finally opened her mouth slowly.

Her voice wasn't loud, yet it inexplicably silenced the noise in the courtyard.

"Alright, stop standing outside." Grandma Chen's gaze swept over Shuanzi, who was rolling around on the ground. "Children fighting over food is nothing but trivial matters. It's all in the past now. Shuanzi, stop crying. The ground is cold. Be careful not to catch a cold and get a stomachache."

Her words sounded like she was trying to smooth things over, but as an elder, she didn't criticize Chen Wanxing and Chen Yanxin at all.

The forced smile on Liu's mother's face froze. Liu's father coughed and tugged at Liu Yaozu, who was about to say something. Since Grandma Chen had spoken, they couldn't press the matter any further, after all, they were in someone else's house.

Grandma Chen looked at Chen Wanxing and Chen Yanxin again, her gaze lingering on Chen Yanxin's straight back for a moment, a barely perceptible hint of approval flashing in her eyes, her tone still calm: "Wanxing, take your younger brother and sister inside."

The farce was over, and everyone moved toward the main room with their own thoughts. Shuanzi was still sobbing and refused to get up, but Liu Yaozu finally half-dragged and half-carried him to his feet.

Liu's mother took out a handkerchief to wipe his face, muttering something under her breath, but her eyes kept glancing at Chen Yanxin, who was being protected by Chen Wanxing as they walked into the house, and at Chen Wanxing, who had been calm and composed just moments before but had now regained her gentle demeanor.
